Enjoy a relaxing break in the marvellous East Lothian countryside at Leuchie Walled Garden. This contemporary, luxurious holiday home sleeps up to 12 guests and is close to the popular seaside resort of North Berwick. With the thriving city of Edinburgh just 25 miles away, it makes it the perfect choice for your next Scottish group getaway. Lovingly refurbished in 2020, Leuchie (pronounced 'Lou-ki') Walled Garden offers a blend of modern and classical and is ideal for a family occasion, a couple's retreat, or even a wedding or business event.

The mid-Century modern house is located in its own private and secluded five acre walled garden, meaning you have plenty of space outside to spread out and enjoy the sunshine when the weather is warm. The property's main rooms feature large windows that overlook this garden, ensuring the property has lovely views and is filled with plenty of natural light.

The modern building has a cool sixties feel, with carefully chosen furnishings and design flourishes throughout. The accommodation, which is all on one level, features a unique collection of antique furniture and 18th Century family paintings that have been collected by the Dalrymple family.

The large living room features comfy sofas that sit around a working fireplace. This is a lovely spot to sit with a glass of wine, socialising around the fireplace with your family & friends. This space also has a door that takes you out onto the patio garden. The brand new kitchen/breakfast room has enough seating for 12, ensuring you have space to all sit and enjoy a casual breakfast together. For more formal dinner times, venture into the dining room that has a large table that also seats 12 in comfort.

The kitchen and service kitchen have a range cooker, aga and an oven, as well as two fridges, two dishwashers, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. So you really do have everything you need to enjoy your stay. The property also has a TV room with a large screen, meaning you can enjoy movie nights in in style.

When it comes to the bedrooms, the property has six on offer, all of which have been individually decorated blending mid-century and traditional details with a deep colour palette and modern accents. These rooms are stylish and unique, and most importantly, they're all super-comfy! There are three superking rooms, two king-size rooms and one twin bedroom. The master suite has an ensuite bathroom and separate shower room, whilst the Garden Suite king-size room also has an ensuite bathroom with shower. Another king-size double room has an ensuite shower with a wet room, whilst the others all have adjacent shower rooms.

The house is eco-friendly, making use of modern environmental technology with ground source heating and superb insulation. And there are also three open fires and a plentiful supply of logs from the surrounding woods.

As the name suggests, the most striking feature of this property is the magnificent walled garden. Built 200 years ago by Napoleonic prisoners of war, the garden encloses the house and acts as a wonderful sun trap in summer. You have total privacy and can relax on the lawn, play tennis on the newly refurbished court or outdoor games such as croquet or boules. Indoors you'll find two games rooms with snooker table, dart board and table tennis.

Guests can also pick flowers, fruit and vegetables when in season from the kitchen garden. There is even a two hole pitching range for enthusiastic golfers.

This house sits within 60 acres of 18th Century landscaped grounds which guests are welcome to explore. In February, the woods are a filled with snowdrops and aconites, and come spring the drive is yellow with daffodils and pink cherry blossom.

If you wish to venture further afield then you'll be pleased to know that you're only a short drive from the seaside and golfing town of North Berwick. This town has an array of quality restaurants on offer and is often voted the best place to live in Scotland. You are also close to several sandy beaches including Seacliffe which regularly features in Britain’s best beaches, Yellowcraig and the East and West Bays in North Berwick. There are plenty of amazing golf courses nearby too, so don't forget to bring your clubs.

Edinburgh is also just 35 minutes by hourly electric train service from North Berwick. Day trips to the city are a must as you soak up all that this thriving, cultural hub has to offer, from amazing historic locations, to delightful pubs and restaurants, Edinburgh is a city that is sure to please.

Christmas at Leuchie

We had a family Christmas, with my siblings, who live abroad, and all of our children. It was a magical experience - a beautiful house and garden, with great facilities. Plenty to do in the local area too. A fantastic few days - thank you!

North Berwick Golf Trip

5-star option for eight gents golfing in East Lothian. Beautiful home, unbelievable property, easy communication with host, great chef options for dinner. This is a first-class option for two foursomes playing in the North Berwick area if four gents are willing to share a room as there are six bedrooms.

A lovely country house for a large family Christmas. With people flying in from around the world it was a perfect environment with lots of room in a very well appointed house which was nicely decorated for the festive season by the hosts.

Amazing house and gardens

What a great experience and one which will be a cherished memory. We have travelled extensively and this is most beautiful and unique property we have stayed. Location perfect and the gardens are amazing - like staying in a botanical garden. We would love to return

Family Reunion

Do not hesitate to stay here .. I am a well travelled consumer and rarely as pleased with accommodations as I was with Leuchie House. This is an exceptionally beautiful property, well maintained, well stocked for every need and very comfortable. We were family from Australia , Canada and UK and thoroughly enjoyed all the games and outdoor areas for soccer etc. it’s a very short drive into town for groceries and supplies and North Berwick is lovely. Hew is a very communicative host and provides all the information you need to enjoy your stay. Stay longer then you plan to .. its worth it.

Scotland Golf Trip

My friends and i couldn't have scripted a better finish to our 17 day trip. The home and property are so beautiful. We were able to enjoy a nice day of golf, come home and cook a meal thanks to the beautiful kitchens then relax and enjoy about just any type of gaming you could ask for. Great atmosphere for fellowship. Jim Moyer

Hogmanay Bliss at Leuchie Walled Garden: A Perfect Family Escape

the perfect Hogmanay retreat for our group of three families, spanning tweens and teens. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere. The setting is simply magical – tucked away in the serene East Lothian countryside, with beautifully maintained grounds that offered a sense of privacy and tranquility. The interiors are nothing short of stunning. Each room is exquisitely designed with a mix of timeless elegance and modern comfort. The attention to detail is impeccable – plush, high-thread-count bedding and thick, fluffy towels gave a real sense of indulgence. The spacious bedrooms ensured that both the adults and kids had their own sanctuaries to relax in.For a group as diverse as ours, the house had everything we needed. The open-plan kitchen and dining space became the heart of the home, where we cooked, laughed, and shared meals together. The living areas were equally impressive – stylish and cozy, with enough space for board games with the tweens or a quiet moment by the fire with a glass of wine. The kids loved having room to roam, both indoors and outdoors. The teens made the most of the stunning gardens, while the tweens enjoyed exploring and playing in the expansive grounds. Even with all the activities, the house felt calm and organised, thanks to its thoughtful layout and high-end amenities. We can’t wait to return !

Birthday House Party With Firends

This was an amazing experience. The house is spectacular but comfortable, the garden is a dream and the hosts could not have been more accommodating. There were 8 of us (plus two dogs) and there was room to spare—We all had wonderful accommodations both for sleeping and for reading, relaxing and playing games (all together as well as in small groups). The kitchen space was well fitted out and roomy with two distinct working areas and 3 cookers (including an AGA). The bathrooms were plentiful and modern, everything worked and the property was immaculate. As for the location—the property could not be better sited. Half an hour to Edinburgh by train, a short walk or drive into North Berwick (a charming town with great shopping and restaurants), lots of golfing and hiking options with lots of great day trip options. Wonderful experience! Thank you Hew and Jamie for sharing your home with us.

Leuchie

We are perfectionists who own and live in wonderful homes in Chicago, San Francisco, Boston and Naples. We recommend Leuchie without hesitation. Leuchie’s spaces are generous, inside and out, and the home is beautifully decorated, carefully blending mid-century modern and Scottish manor home styles. Each bedroom is unique and light-filled, and boasts world-class mattresses, pillows and linens. The showers and sinks and fittings throughout are of the highest quality and a pleasure to touch and use, as are the plentiful plush towels. The public rooms — the kitchen with adjoining eating area and family room, the dining room and the gorgeous living room — will accommodate everyone in your party while also providing many quiet nooks for an individual’s peace and quiet. All rooms are generously opened to the landscape by huge windows, filling the spaces with light and framing beautiful views. The undisputed star of this wonderful show is the enormous walled garden that realizes what everyone imagines as the perfectly balanced Scottish garden. The home is secluded amongst the verdant pastures of East Lothian, only five minutes outside of North Berwick, and fifteen from Gullane, both villages boasting some of the world’s finest golf courses, as well as numerous top-notch restaurants and eateries. Communications and arrangements are made with the ancestral owners of the estate and could not have been more timely and spot-on, from start to finish. Excellence all around!
