About this property
A secluded riverside cottage nestled in the Devon countryside.
A 200-year old stable reinterpreted - this charming self-catering family and couple retreat affords a slice of country living on modern terms. It’s dog friendly too!
The Unicorn Stable occupies a utopian setting on the banks of the River Tamar near Tavistock, set in an AONB and SSSI not far from Dartmoor National Park.
Honey-hued beams and hand crafted furnishings are a celebration of a magical fairyland surrounded by unicorns and pixies with luxuries like the bed dressed in pure cotton bedding and lashings of rural romance, looking out over the river Tamar.
Introduction
Approached via a half mile winding country driveway and etched upon a sylvan backdrop with buzzards wheeling overhead. This old stable once served the local silver and copper mines but has undergone a sensitive restoration to offer luxury self-catering escapes for couples and families. It’s dog friendly too.
Rustic and warm by nature, The Unicorn Stable has character bursting right through this picturesque cottage. Windows frame views over salt march meadows and the self-contained garden. Nestled into the edge of 368 square miles of Dartmoor National Park, and Cornwall beyond.
Inside:
Modern artistry shines through this luxury West Devon stable. Original beams frame the open plan luxury bedroom upstairs.
Original limewash paints and colours have been used to restore original stoneworks built by stone masons hundreds of years ago. Floors covered in easy clean linoleum warm to the feet to keep up the original country character. The contemporary kitchen oozes character of fairies and magic.
Accessed via a hand-built staircase the master bedroom flaunts a handmade king-sized bed dressed in pure cotton lined. The perfect place for a weary soul. With a beautiful view down the river estuary. You may even see a Unicorn far down the valley in the mist from your lofty position.
A single handmade bed can be introduced for the larger family.
Downstairs across from the kitchen can be found the second bedroom with a double bed and a handmade single bed. Surrounded by murals and other works of art.
Outside:
With an owner passionate about the natural countryside and environment, there are 28 acres of woodland pastures and salt marsh meadows that cradle the cottage. With views to Cornwall on the other side of the river. Untouched for the last 40-50 years by anything other than the local sheep. Bees and wild flowers are bountiful. With hillsides of wild garlic, primroses and bird-song. A host of wild birds and bees a cacophony of natural sounds. Otters, deer, muntjac deer, and hedgehogs are regular visitors. And the owls play an orchestra most evenings.
