Another excellent stay
Another excellent stay at your quirky cottage. Thanks for making us feel welcome. The welcome tray was amazing the home made treats were delicious and so thoughtful. A very quiet relaxing stay so peaceful and quiet sat in the hot tub. Another excellent breakfast the following morning too. We will definitely hope to visit again. Thanks Gina and Phil for another wonderful stay.

A wonderfully relaxing break
Gina and Phil are excellent hosts who think of everything that guests might need during their stay, including the delightful welcome tray which even included doggy treats. We discovered some of the local walks straight from the cottage and the hot tub was perfect to relax in afterwards. The cottage was lovely, warm and cosy too. We took advantage of the menu on offer and were very glad that we did, the meals were superb!

Perfect getaway
What a wonderful find. From the incredibly warm welcome from Gina, to the cutest little cottage, fabulous hot tub and delicious cooked breakfast everything was perfect. Absolutely nothing to fault. We took 2 dogs with us. The garden was so safe and secure for them it really enabled us to relax. The welcome tray (including lovely treats for the dogs) and initial provisions was a lovely gesture. The owners were on hand if needed and gave some great recommendations for things to do in the area but also gave us total privacy. Highly recommend staying here.

Romantic getaway
Beautiful cottage with everything you need for a romantic getaway, plenty of space and the décor with so much love put into the property. Hot tub was amazing loved it. We ordered from the menu homemade lasagne garlic bread and some chips for our first night and was so worth it tasted better than any pub meal. And we had a sausage and egg muffin for breakfast on our last morning with hash browns and orange juice delicious. We went to the local pub for Sunday lunch we booked before our visit beef dinner was lovely and just a short walk away from the cottage. Gina and Phil have thought of everything to make you feel welcome and to enjoy your stay and we can't wait to go back. Lisa and Simon x

Superb hosts, superb place
The whole process was so easy. Gina stays in touch throughout the booking process and is easily approachable. Upon arriving at the cottage boyh hosts Gina and Phil were so welcoming and offered vast knowledge about the area. The cottage is amazingly pet friendly and fully secure our Teddy felt at ease straight away. The food options are beautiful, from the breakfast to the butter chicken lasagne. Amazing! Cottage itself is so quaint and cozy, didnt need anything. Hope to be back soon. Thanks

Perfect little cottage
We were looking for a cottage in the country with a hot tub that we could take our dog to and Soldier Cottage ticked all the boxes and more. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, had a nice, secure garden overlooking fields and the hot tub was large and very private. The welcome package we received from Gina was a lovely touch, lots of tasty treats for us and our dog. Other little essentials were also provided, like tea bags, butter and a jug of milk. Also we can highly recommend purchasing the breakfast, it was delicious. My only regret is that we didn’t book a longer stay but we will definitely be back.

Style over substance
This review is for Field View Cottage, which was recommended by Gina, due to mobility issues and Soldiers Cottage would be unsuitable. Due to Field View not being completed we were advised to book as Soldiers Cottage. WiFi and TV were not working, took 3-4 days to resolve. Found chipped crockery, dirty socks left from previous occupants and oven tray with old congealed fat left in the oven. It appeared as if the property hadn’t been checked over properly before we arrived. No storage for clothing, only an under bed draw, which isn’t acceptable. No storage in the bathroom to put toiletries. Very limited storage in the kitchen for groceries, which surely is a prerequisite for self catering accommodation. Overall the property was poorly finished, no skirting boards, gaps in the side wall A frame, daylight can be seen through it. Guttering hanging off the roof. Door frames not plastered to completion. Plus points, comfy bed, nice food when ordered and nice hot tub. Gina and Phil Overall, the property was not worth the amount charged. Style over substance. If Gina and Phil can bring the finish of the property up to a higher standard, it would be worth the price being charged.

About the host

Host profile image
My hubby and I also have a lodge in Devon and we enjoy renting that out so then decided to separate our house and rent the older part that use to be a Soldiers Cottage as a holiday let.
We enjoy meeting people, and we love making sure they have the best break.
Soldiers Cottage has been open since 2019, and our reviews are brilliant.
We use to wedding draping as our main work but have since retired that and now enjoy the holiday side of our business.

Why they chose this property

It’s part of our home, well joined slightly ! And we loved the beams and old feel of it, with lots of history, we love our guests to enjoy this part of the cottage.

What makes this property unique

It’s romantic, cosy and has great views. Many of our guests don’t want to go home !

We have a hot tub and we always give our guests a lovely welcome tray with goodies.

We offer breakfast and home cooked meals at an extra cost.
