About this property

Spindrift, St Ives - an apartment that sleeps 2 guests in 1 bedroom

This superb cottage with its amazing location above Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, is everything you could wish for from a boutiquey coastal bolthole for two. Beautifully furnished and tastefully styled, Spindrift Cottage is not only gorgeous to look at, but being above Porthmeor as well as a mere 10 minutes’ walk from St Ives’ restaurants, shops, Tate Gallery and harbour means it offers guests a rather unique combination of away-from-it-all quiet and at-the-centre-of-it-all buzz.

Airy and elegant, Spindrift Cottage’s interior is awash with natural tones and coast-inspired décor creating a calming atmosphere that tempts feet-up relaxation. The lovely living room is small yet perfectly proportioned and open plan with the kitchen where a breakfast bar doubles as the home’s dining area. Upstairs a luxurious master bedroom with it cotton linen and deeply comfortable bed tempts afternoon naps and long morning lie-ins, and form here guests can take in stunning views of Porthmeor Beach and the blue waters of St Ives Bay beyond.

What makes Spindrift Cottage really special then is the surprisingly spacious feel of the home as well as its fabulous sun-soaked private terrace, the quality of the space and facilities provided, and of course its spectacular location which is second to none, so for couples looking to escape to Cornwall’s magnificent west coast it simply doesn’t get better.

Besides a fabulous foodie scene and plethora of wonderful blue flag beaches, there are plenty of attractions in St Ives for those fabulous days out. The Tate St Ives perches right beside Porthmeor Beach, so you can take in some of that famous art scene and then step out onto the sand, or if you fancy a walk you’ll have many great coast paths to choose from including the 1.9km route to Carbis Bay. Further afield but easily reached by car lie the villages / towns of Lelant, Hayle and Gwithian, each with their own great atmospheres and fantastic sandy beaches.

Last minute long weekend

Arrived on cold & wet Friday afternoon. Property exactly as described. Overall we had a lovely stay although operating the heating was very difficult and we would have preferred the heavily stained carpet to have been cleaned (particularly on the landing). Quality of fixtures, linens and fittings was good. We took advice and purchased a parking permit for the rugby club which we recommend. Only thing missing was egg cups

All facilities were good. Very nice welcome pack. Perfect for our dog too. Lovely area. Quiet and relaxing. St Ives is such a lovely place to stay in. Plenty to do even when weather isn't too good. We enjoyed our stay. No problems to report. Thanks to Chloe for her support when needed.

Very close to perfection

There's not much of an outlook from this property, and the lack of a parking/loading area, even when loading/unloading correctly as per instructions, causes impatience from the locals which is unwelcome when wanting a stress free break. However, despite its size, the cottage is perfect for a short break for 2, spotlessly clean and close to beautiful beaches, a harbour and shops. From a purely subjective point of view, would recommend the capital letters for the wifi code to be underlined and information available on how to adjust the heating, as this would avoid first night stay confusion.

Lovely decor

Spindrift is a lovely place to stay, decor etc very on trend, but it is looking a bit tired, carpets need a clean and a few maintenance jobs needed. This property is unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues due to locality plus there a Is no stair handrail.

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay at Spindthrift which is a great location for a dog friendly stay in st. Ives. It’s about a 10 minute walk downhill to porthmeor or the town centre and about 12/15 minutes back depending on how well you handle the hills! The cottage itself is pretty, cosy and well equipped and we had everything we needed there. The only slight criticism we have is that the bed is perhaps past it’s best. It was very noisy every time you made a small movement which took a bit of getting used to.

Hills hills and more hills

Lovely little property, but great disadvantage of not having anywhere close to park. As pensioners we found it almost impossible to walk up and down every day. Also being woken at 5am on a Sunday morning by National grid working on the pole adjoining the property for over an hour, making a hell of a noise.

Lovely little house

Lovely little house. Much further up hill than we thought. Everything you need except an ironing board.I think the place needs a good deep clean. Very comfortable bed and you can see the sea from the bedroom window.the the upstairs carpet need changing or to have professionally cleaned as the stains are not very nice.and the fridge needs all the shelving taken out and be cleaned.

Nice little cottage

On arrival at the property we inadvertently parked to the side of the cottage due to vague instructions which we misinterpreted . Within minutes the neighbour bamged on the kitchen window and said he was fed up of arguing about people parking on the side of his drive. We assured him we wee not there to argue, and moved our Mini to the lane, under the bedroom window. There were no instructions inside other than a folder with restaurant recommendations and a one page intro to Spindrift. We settled in and found it a nice, cosy space, just as we had hoped. Went to run a bath, and found a splodge of shaving foam (including hairs) on the tiled surround . The heated towel rail switch has a loose connection, so doesn't stay on when you take your finger off the switch. That said, the bath, washbasin and loo were clean and the water nice and hot. Couldn't find any instructions on where to put rubbish, recycling, and no info re what to do with used towels, bedlinen etc. I texted the contact number I had bee sent, but no response, so left all the used towels in the bathtub. There is a (rust coloured) flannel or such tied around the bedroom radiator valve where it seems to have been leaking, and the bathroom doorcatch has been replaced with a Phillips screw. We had a very pleasant stay, but I felt the need to highlight these issues so they can be addressed. This is the reason I gave fours stars instead of 5.
