About this property

Old Chelsea - charming cottage in the conservation area of Deal

Old Chelsea is a charming circa 1700 cottage in a pretty, pedestrianised lane lined with pots and flowering plants. Ideally located in the heart of the historic conservation area of Deal, the cottage is a short stroll to both the long beach, pier and promenade and the high street with its variety of boutique shops and cafes.

The cottage has been lovingly restored by the owners to create a stylish and comfortable holiday home. The cosy sitting room has a comfy sofa and armchair, a Smart TV and wood burner. The pretty bay window creates a window seat and dining area, and the open plan kitchen is perfect for sociable meal preparation.

Outside is a cute courtyard to relax in with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine, after enjoying a lovely day in this popular and vibrant coastal town.

Nice and cosy

Very nice cosy little cottage though a bit small for 4. Well located and easier to drop off in Middle Street than we expected. Pub virtually next door. Most enjoyable stay

Perfect little seaside cottage

The most quaint beautiful spot surrounded by plants as as you walk off historic middle street down the passage to the cottage - a little haven where I’d watch magpies build nests through the half open stable door of the cottage. Every morning I’d walk the 2 mins to the beach and watch the sunrise (even at that time there were always a few locals already up, swimming in the sea or walking dogs) I was born and raised in Deal until I was 18 but haven’t been back a lot in recent years. This trip and the cottage made me fall back in love with my home town in a brand new way. Really special

Perfect location - couple of points to improve

A small quirky cottage in the heart of Deal. Comfortable and clean - though behind the sofa it was very dirty and loose wires from an unused telephone socket. Basic and small bathroom. Small but well equipped kitchen. Nice welcome pack- thank you. Unfortunately I broke my ankle when we arrived falling down the steps outside the bathroom - I note in the visitors book someone else had fallen - they need marking up please. I am young and fit so would be concerned for those who are less able. Lovely clean comfy bedrooms Quiet location was perfect We were told we would get a bag of logs - we got a bundle of kindling only. Disappointing.

Tucked away

Compact cottage tucked away in a lovely location nice and quiet close to the old part of Deal which is the best part to stay. All clean and a small kitchen attached to the lounge.Upstairs 2 small bedrooms with a decent comfortable double bed.The house remained cool due to its build in the hot weather and is also dog friendly.A great place to stop if visiting the town.

4/10 Poor

Disappointed

Very disappointed with this cottage, I have stayed in keepers cottages before, and not had any such issues. The cleanliness of this property on the whole was way below standard regarding all areas, oven trays, rugs all needed deep cleaning. Outside of the property and small courtyard need’s intense makeover. There was also an open plug socket behind the sofa, this should have been dealt with. The one positive thing I can take from the stay, was the customer service, Amy was very helpful and attentive and got the boiler issue sorted, while also keeping us informed and offering help via a cleaner, but we declined the cleaner as I had gone out to buy cleaning materials and we had cleaned the property ourselves , the plumber was also a very polite and helpful young man, I may also mention that we were offered a small compensation from Phoebe which we accepted.

Good base for exploring Deal

Overall a pleasant stay, the cottage was a great base for exploring the area. Quaint but a bit cluttered, be warned if you are over 6 foot tall this may not be the accommodation for you. Courtyard disappointing, broken lights, bins and recycling. Comfy bed in master, rediculously cheap beer in the Ship (20m away) tasty fish and chips on Middle St.

6/10 Okay

Cute little cottage with a few downsides

We liked our stay in the Old Chelsea in Deal, but regretted that we couldn’t really eat together as a family because there were only two rather uncomfortable chairs and one small table that wasn’t really suitable as a dining table. We didn’t sit outside either because the cushions were rather dirty and not very inviting and added to that the tiny outside space was the only place to leave the rubbish bins. So we didn’t want to sit there surrounded by our own rubbish. The cottage is cute but the ground floor living space was quite dark and lacked good lighting. The cottage has little space and is too cold to dry clothes or wet towels so we definitely needed the laundry dryer. Another downside was that the bathroom was on the ground floor and not on the same floor as the bedrooms. We hadn’t been aware of that when we booked the cottage.
