About this property

Three double bedroom fisherman’s cottage-breathtaking views across RSPB marshes.

Cley is a beautiful village on the breathtaking North Norfolk coast and Mariners hard, an old fisherman’s cottage, sits in the centre of the village but with views out across the marsh land. Internally, Mariners hard has a modern decor and has three double bedrooms, all with en-suites. The cottage is a two minute walk to the pub, art gallery, pottery and deli of Cley and a two minute walk to the coastal path taking you through the marshland to the beach or down to Salthouse. There are numerous beautiful walks from the cottage - across the marsh land to Blakeney to the west or Salt-marsh to the east. Mariners hard is maintained to a high standard: all the beds have Egyptian cotton sheets and duck-down bedding; the towels are plentiful and fluffy; there is a large sitting area with a cosy log fire; a large dining table and an outside space with a dining area and bbq for alfresco dining.

Fabulous visit to Norfolk!

The cottage was exactly as described and true to the pictures. The check in was smooth and Jo gave us lots of helpful info on the area. The welcome basket was also really appreciated. We were 6 adults and there was plenty of space so we didn’t feel on top of one another all the time. The village is lovely and we are out at the George & Dragon and the Harnser - excellent meals at both. There are also wonderful villages and beaches all along the coast to visit and the doggies were welcome virtually everywhere. All in all a great week - thanks

Best shower in UK

The welcome kit was great and the shower was absolutely wonderful. Location is fantastic. Everything worked well. One minor niggle with resetting the lock box otherwise perfect.

Charming cottage in a wonderful location.

The beds and bed linen were wonderful. Really comfortable. It was disappointing that the deli did not deliver the welcome pack until the next day but the cottage owner got on to that quickly. We were warned it might be cold as it is an old cottage and it was, so It would have been nice if there was some low heating on to take the chill off.

Very special home in an unforgettable setting

We adored our time here for a very memorable late Autumn break. Such a stylish and comfortable home with real attention to detail. The owners have gone the extra mile... beds are supremely comfortable with lovely linen and the rest of the house is just a special. What a treat to be able to walk from the house onto the marshes and take a footpath to the sea. Wildlife in this part of Norfolk always delivers a spectacle and we enjoyed 'close views' of Barn Owls and Marsh Harriers, huge flocks Geese and much more. Excellent places to eat within so close, an easy walk. The owners have written a really good guide to the area - was really useful. We know North Norfolk well and have enjoyed holidays here many times. The combination of this house and this location is a real winner. We loved it all!

Mariners Hard - A Real Gem in Cley

We’ve been staying in Blakeney and Cley for many years in a whole range of properties. It was lovely to discover a new gem in this cottage. We always think there are three fundamental qualities that are needed for an enjoyable stay: location, comfortable bedrooms and good bathrooms/showers (especially with the rain and mud we had!) The cottage scored super highly on all three. A two minute walk from the Windmill and our beloved George pub ; a short hop to the Cley beach road and paths; lovely beds and great quality showers (not always the case in these older cottages). The property was warm and comfortable with a nice sitting area for the evenings. A special thanks for the effortless check in: Jo’s communication before our stay was quick and friendly and she allowed us to arrive a bit earlier on the Friday, with the heating already on a welcome basket waiting. It was a wonderful stay - the cottage is highly recommended. As we left we were talking about how much we’d like to return… Thanks KB & family

Hi,

We bought Mariners Hard in 2019 because we visited that part of North Norfolk over the years and fell in love with the area. We want you to have a wonderful trip and try very hard for that to happen. I am particular about cleanliness, bedding, maintenance and work with local companies, with equally high standards, to make sure our guests enjoy their stay.

Why they chose this property

Mariners Hard is situated moments walk from the shops in the beautiful village of Cley-Next-The-Sea. It has views from the first floor windows looking over the marshlands towards the sea. There are numerous beautiful walks from the property - across the marshes to the east and west where you can also stop off at one of the gastro pubs to fill up on food and drink before making the journey home.
