Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.
Town: An idyllic rural community surrounded by woods and fields in the valley of the Fowey River. There are many antique shops and dealers in town, as well as excellent restaurants, a lively farmer's market, and quaint country inns. It is only three miles to the National Trust's Lanhydrock House and Gardens, and not much further to the Eden Project in Cornwall, the shipwreck museum and tall ships harbour in Charlestown, and the picturesque fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey, and Padstow, home to the renowned Rick Stein restaurants. There are many exciting activities to partake in, such as river canoeing, biking, hiking, and leisurely walks, as well as the opportunity to experience the crashing Atlantic surf, long sandy beaches, and dramatic coastline of the north coast, especially at the famous Newquay. There are always fun events going on in this welcoming community, like the annual raft race, the world-famous tug of war, Carnival week, and the seagull outboard motor races. From the city, the river Fowey travels eight miles through farmland and wooded valleys to the softer southern coast, a veritable paradise for beachgoers. Lostwithiel is ideally located for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the tourist resorts, and there is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area.
