About this property

Grand and traditional French country house, set in a stunning wooded landscape

A large, handsome and comfortable 4 bedroom traditional country house, set in stunning grounds with two barns and a separately let 2 bedroom guest cottage.
The house and barns are attractively arranged around a circular drive, with a pond, wooded gardens and a mature orchard.
It is located in a wonderful rural spot within walking distance of the town of Ambrières-les-Vallées, with its fabulous cafes and restaurants.
The spacious living areas make it the perfect choice for a family get away or get together with friends.

The space
Traditionally furnished to a high standard, La Bruyere is a stunning house in a beautiful and quiet setting, yet only a short 15 minute walk from the local town.
Each room is simply furnished and has ample space to stretch and unwind.
You will feel all of your cares melt away as you enter the grounds, and feel enveloped by the natural surroundings and wildlife of the area, don't be surprised if you see red squirrels or deer in the back garden. The house is surrounded by trees and the morning birdsong is a delight.

Inside the house there is a large kitchen/dining room, with room to seat 8 comfortably around the farmhouse style table. The Kitchen is well equipped for those that love to cook, there is everything you need. With a gas stove and electric fan oven, cooking in this space is a relaxing pastime, yet guests can sit and chat at the table as you create your marvellous meals.

The sitting room has a large wood-burning stove for chillier nights, and is flooded with morning light through the tall French windows. It is well furnished with a large corner sofa, and two comfortable armchairs. There is a large flat screen TV with access to most channels like Netflix etc for those that love to relax with a movie! There is also desk space here for those that need to work.

We have added some art materials if anybody feels like being creative, or if kids want to do some drawing or colouring. Lockable barns are available so groups of cyclists would find this place perfect as a stop off to explore the rolling hills and quiet roads of this area.

The conservatory at the back of the house is a great space for spotting the wildlife.
Guest access
Guests can access all areas of the house and the grounds that surround it, but we ask you do not enter the barns and leave space around the gite if there are guests staying there too. The woods north of the house do not belong to us, but the farmer who owns them is OK about people walking in them. Please be respectful and mindful that this is his private property, and avoid them during the hunting season.
Other things to note
There is ample parking at the front of the house in front of the left side barn.
Please get in touch asap if you have any questions, and we will endeavour to help.

Beautiful old house in the countryside

A charming and very old stone house. Nice bottle of wine and biscuits await you. Be sure to have a fire in the downstairs stove when it's cold out!

Cosy and charming cottage

About the host

Host profile image
I live in Wiltshire, England, just outside Bradford on Avon. I am a designer of ceramic tableware, ornaments and giftware. I run the business with my partner Dave. I have 2 grown-up children and a dog called Betty. We have also adopted a stray cat in france, called Maisie, she is looked after by my neighbour when we are not around.
I love gardening, growing organic vegetables, and walking in the countryside. I am a bit obsessed with interiors, so the two houses we have in France have given me an amazing opportunity to expand on that, and decorate them with my style of furniture and decor.

Why they chose this property

Northern France is beautiful, the rolling hills, and the wildlife are what makes it special for me, and I just love the French architecture. As an English woman, I also appreciate the warmer weather, and as a homeowner, the houses are so much more affordable than in the UK! I love having a great big garden to really do something amazing with, it is early days yet as we have only had the houses for 4 years, but I have grand plans.
For me being totally immersed in nature is such a treat after living in a city for most of my adult life, hearing the tawny owls at night, and seeing deer run past the conservatory, it's amazing!

What makes this property unique

If you asked ai to create an image of the perfect French house, for me, this would be it! I love being surrounded by trees, it is cocooning, and the bird song, it's incredible!
I have tried to decorate the interior to reflect the outside too, using French antiques and vintage finds, to create something a bit unusual. Aesthetics are really important to me, so I think we appeal to like-minded travellers, who want tots of lovely things to look at, and interesting artwork everywhere. I don't like staying in dull, bland places, so I wanted to create something a bit different. It is also a great way to display the ceramics I make under the name of Hannah Turner.... they are all over the place!
