Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: Located on the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera,' Southerness is a small coastal village that was founded in the late 18th century and overlooks the Solway Firth. It has everything you could want for a restful holiday: three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean, and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools, and Gulf Stream warmed waters, not to mention one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, constructed in 1748. Criffel Hill, a nearby hill that rises to 569 metres and provides stunning views of the surrounding farmland and the Nith Estuary below, is a popular hiking destination. Views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south, and the Galloway Hills to the west can be had from the Southerness Championship Golf Course, which is located right next to the village. An ideal spot, with plenty to do for guests of all ages.
