About this property

Large, open floor plan. Water views of Lanes Cove. Walk to Plum Cove beach.

This 950 square foot duplex one bedroom home is deceiving from the outside, once an old store in Lanesville Village now a village home overlooking the Cove. inside it is well appointed remodeled home featuring a large loft master bedroom upstairs and more sleeping and living on the ground floor. Air conditioning throughout~ though with the cove breezes it is unlikely you will need it. There is a large separate eat in kitchen with all the appliances, and almost everything else you may need downstairs.-BYOL (bring your own lobsters). Included are more conveniences, in the kitchen spices, and basic pantry items, in the bath- hair dryer,, towels and linens, a washer and dryer,. Our home features comfortable seating, games, books and more! Close to everything, yet a real vacation spot.
Walk a couple doors down to the package/general store for marinated meats and some wine, settle in on the deck to enjoy the famous sunset over Lanes Cove. Wake up and start at the Plum Cove cafe for coffee on your way to Plum Cove beach, never crowded! Great for families and sea glass hunting! Like a more rugged hike explore the wooded quarries of the Greenbelt - great on a hot day. Lots more a short drive away, like Rockport and Bearskin Neck, large beaches like Good Harbor, Wingarsheek, Cranes and more. Many people come to relax but if you want to visit Rockport, Salem or Boston they are easy to jump to- catch the train for a day jaunt to Salem or Bostona couple miles away (three stations to choose from), Rockport is just a mile up the road as you pass by Lobster Cove.We will consider your dog, but require a special dog security deposit. Dedicated parking for one car and street parking is always available.

Exactly what we were looking for!

Alix and John were great hosts. Very welcoming and went over and beyond what we expected to make it possible for us all to be in their space. The fact that it was on the beautiful Lanes Cove is a big bonus! Thanks Alix and John for your hospitality in more ways than one!

Lanesville condo

Cute/cozy 1 bedroom with kitchen and living room. Has a deck with ocean views and washer and dryer. You can walk to Plum Cove Beach as well. Handy small village liquor/grocery shop, post office, and cute cafe with great food and desserts. Beautiful sunsets! Just a short drive from rte 128, downtown Gloucester and Rockport. Owner was wonderful! We loved it here for a month long stay.

August in Cape Ann

We found this to be a perfectly charming place to spend the month of August in Cape Ann. The location was perfect with views of Lanes Cove from the back patio and just a short walk from the Package Store, which had all the essentials, and the Cove Cafe that was the local favorite spot for coffee, breakfast sandwiches, tempting pastries and more. Can’t imagine more responsive and thoughtful hosts…when we encountered an internet issue they did everything possible to resolve it quickly. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

Everything we expected and more!

Property was exactly as described. Alix and John were great hosts. Best stocked kitchen we’ve ever encountered. The area was just what we wanted and they directed us to the best local places to eat.Topping everything off, we found a tremendous amount of beach glass right in the harbor down the hill. We highly recommend this property!

It was a wonderful place to stay while in gloucester! Alix was very accommodating and helpful!

House was very clean and had everything we needed for our short stay.. ideally located in Gloucester on Washington St. Plenty to do in this area and Alix provided a lot of printed material to help us decide what sites and beaches we could visit! Plenty of excellent restaurants nearby and also a quaint Cove Cafe breakfast/pastry/coffee shop next door.. We would both highly recommend this place to those visiting the Gloucester area! Thanks Alix for your generous support while we were in town.. you are the best!

Charming

This was a wonderful spot for a get away because we love to kayak and fish and watch beautiful sunsets and take leisurely evening drives along the ocean. Easy launch right at the end of the street. Lanes cove is a well protected entrance to Ipswich Bay. Gloucester and Rockport have much to offer for food and dining and we loved the Seaport Grille as much as any restaurant we have ever been in. The halibut was the best in my life, and my wife who is a connoisseur of Frau Diavlo said it was the best also, loaded with seafood and enough for 3 people. We lucked out with 3 top flight sunny days. Our honeymoon (many moons ago) was at Good Harbor so we also know about the great shopping and walks in Rockport and the great beaches but we have had enough of that at this point in our lives. The bed was comfy and the interior open and charmingly decorated. All the comforts of home, well appointed kitchen, better than our timeshare properties, very clean throughout. We really enjoyed our stay in this very nice spot.

Comfortable Home

My husband and I stayed at Alexandra and John's home and they made us feel very welcome. The house is very open and pretty and felt bigger than the pictures show. It's nicely decorated and there are many different places to sit and relax like on the outside deck, living room by the T.V., in the large sitting room, stools by the kitchen and even under the stairs there was a little desk area. I also loved the bedroom with the 2 windows on the ceiling so you could look up at the sky. Alexandra left us a welcoming basket with banana bread, wine and chocolates as well as other things and she said we could help ourselves to anything in the kitchen which was very generous. She was also available to help guide us with what to do in the area. We loved the little Plum Cove Beach that was within walking distance and also being close to Salem where we went sightseeing and to The House of Seven Gables. I would highly recommend this house because it's really pretty and comfortable and the owners are very special because they are so welcoming and generous. We would love to come back to this house again.

Comfortable Stay in Picturesque Neighborhood!

This is a great spot for a photographer!!!! Great sunsets from the vantage point of Lane's Cove at the end of the street! A few doors down are the liquor/grocery store(I found Cranbeery) and the coffee shop (great quiche and scones!). Very short drives to Halibut Point State Park (where we took a guided Granite Tour and visited a scenic quarry and rocky beach-I got some great video of waves and sea spray on the rocks) and Rockport (Motif #1, Bearskin Neck shops [ found great sale $10 pants @ Floating Lotus] and restaurants, art galleries, Rockport Art Association)! Also enjoyed short trips to Gloucester and Ipswich. Crane Beach is the best beach and for the parking price you can also tour the Crane Estate and Gardens nearby-this was the high point of the trip for me! Local seafood is terrific-try the Causeway and Lobsta Land. The Rhumb Line and the Azorean are also great for dinner. Two Sisters in Gloucester for breakfast. Alix & John are great landlords-very informative about the area and responsive if you need anything. Generous-they had wine, chocolate and candy for us at arrival. The upstairs bed is a little tricky for the person on the side where the roof line comes down. We just pulled the bed further out from the wall and had no problems after that. The apartment is spacious and nicely decorated. There is a nice deck with a distant view of the cove. There is plenty to do in the Cape Ann area!

Large, clean open-space apartment: Great comfort, friendliness, and location for exploring Cape Ann.

This open-space apartment in the Lanesville area of Gloucester is super comfortable, with tons of light and all the conveniences. First off: It is CLEAN. Lots of nice touches — there were fresh flowers! Upstairs is a comfy queen bed with a quiet reading area and view of Lane's Cove. The main level is actually so spacious that it's up to you how to use it all: a couple of sofas over by the large smart TV, another by the widows is a great reading area, and various tables/chairs. Large, modern kitchen is fully equipped: the essentials, plus all sorts of little gadgets and even a Cuisinart in case you forgot yours. First-floor bathroom has a nice glass sink/mirror set-up; shower and water pressure both good, but an FYI: no tub. The back door heads out to a spacious, furnished deck with views. You can park on the street in front but the definite better option is the area available on the side street (the unit is on a corner). Speaking of the street: steps away are a package/grocery store and a café/lunch joint. Owners Alix and John could not have been nicer and more responsive. You'll think that you're communicating with friends who are letting you use their home. Quick replies. Clarity with door codes and wifi. John stopped by to ensure all was well and gave some great tips as to great Italian bakery, local restaurants + nearby things to do. Location! A short walk away is Lane's Cove. John mentioned that NatGeo ranks it as a top spot for sunset viewing. I agree. Stunning. The whole shape of the Cove is great for exploring. About an 1/8 mile down the road is Plum Cove which you could consider as your own little beach. All other beaches (my favorite was Wingaersheek), the touristy zone of Rockport, Main Street Gloucester, and all restaurants are about a 12-15 minute drive away max. Overall: Great comfort, friendliness, and location for exploring Cape Ann.

This is our second stay with Alix and John, and it won't be our last. They are extremely welcoming and friendly hosts. The property is clean and stocked with all the essentials...dishes, linens, pots/pans, coffee maker, washer/dryer, wifi, condiments, spices, wine opener & glasses, etc. The bedroom is spacious, the bed is comfortable. Great property, great location, great hosts, great everything

We simply can’t say enough great things about this rental and its owners. If you are going to Cape Ann, this is the place to stay …“End of Story!” The property is welcoming, very clean, extremely well-stocked, and the location is perfect for enjoying all that Gloucester, Rockport, and the region has to offer. The friendly and accommodating hosts are reason enough to choose this property but add in the fact that the cove, a great coffee shop, a quality general store/liquor store, and a small, cute beach are just steps away and the fact is that you have all that you need for a relaxing holiday. A short drive will take you to bigger and sandier beaches, wonderful restaurants, great shopping, and large grocery stores. The full kitchen makes dining at home an easy, enjoyable option. The large loft bed is wonderful and the easy to use, comfortable blow-up mattress adds accommodations for two more people. And topping it all off, Alex and John happily allow and welcome the dog member of the family. Staying at this five-star rental is what vacations are meant to be.

Best hosts ever!

It was such a treat to be able to experience "downtown" Lanesville by staying in this apartment. You're literally two doors away from the convenience store, maybe eight doors down from a super friendly coffee shop and about half a mile from the beach and a huge network of beautiful walking/running trails. The apartment itself is great - spacious, inviting and well equipped, with ocean views and quiet despite its central location. Plus, Alix and John are just about the nicest people you will ever meet - extremely thoughtful, generous and accommodating! We are very grateful to have been able to stay here!

The relaxation we needed!

Alix and John were wonderful to work with. Our family was in for a wedding in Gloucester and this was absolutely the perfect location for us. It was away from the crowds yet close enough to anything you need. The unit is as described (bigger than I expected), clean, well stocked with everything you need for a relaxing stay. They gave us some wonderful information on the area. Our dog and I loved the several walks a day down to the cove; Cricket was a wonderful hostess as well. This is our first day home and we are very much looking forward to returning! We are hoping to do more exploring on our next visit. Thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality and Boo loved the snacks!

Views, Location and Lovely Home

A friend and I stayed in Alix's home for 4 nights while taking a Workshop in the area. The location is great, in a small village with a great local coffee shop. The View of the ocean (cove) and beautiful sunsets is wonderful from the bistro table, from the deck or from the rocks a short walk away. The home was spacious, well-appointed and clean. Our host was responsive and friendly. Who could ask for more? We'll definitely book again.

Lovely, comfy, place to stay away from the noisy crowds

A wonderful location in pretty Lanesville. Walking distance to the cove and even a peek at it from the balcony. Large open living area with a big modern kitchen and modern bath. Very comfortable queen bed, but the stairs up to the bedroom are a little funky. We greatly enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and making short scenic jaunts to other favorite places on Cape Ann. it was a very enjoyable September visit with foggy mornings, sunny afternoons, and cool nights.

About the host

Hosted by Alexandra W Turner

Host profile image
John and I purchased this house because we love Lanesville so much! We vacationed here for years, as we like the casual vibe and the mix of friendly, interesting people from artists to lobster men and scientists. The natural beauty and lots of open space close to an intimate village make this a special place. This is not fancy, we were going for beach cottage when we fixed up and furnished our home. We tried to make our place comfortable, and clean and hope you don't work too much. Though you could with internet available. Well stocked with games and beach reading. We really want you to enjoy it as much as we do.
We have our fur kids, so we understand good and bad dogs. We have one of each and will allow yours but expect you to keep your fur kids and real ones on a short leash.

Why they chose this property

We live in North Central Mass and getting to our families place in Falmouth (the other Cape was getting to daunting with traffic). We wanted an escape that we could enjoy that was not over run with summer people. This place is well situated close to everything, with parking, very comfortable and you don't have to fret about it. Close enough not to spend a day getting there but it was 'away' enough to be really relaxing.

What makes this property unique

The best part of the Cove is the warm sheltered water to dabble in. It is not the gorgeous albeit popular beach like Good Harbor or Cranes. Those are close enough to go to, but at the end of the day I take my glass of wine and go sit on the rocks and watch what National Geographic referred to as one of the best places anywhere to watch the sunset. Kayak magazine wrote up the cove too as a 'best of' place to set out. I also enjoy walking around the 'block' ocean side of course-the whole shoreline from the breakwater is conservation and people go sit up to look over Hampton and watch the fireworks Saturday and Wednesday nights. Feeling ambitious, kayak straight across to Wingarsheek. Lanesville is like going back in time, very relaxing.
