About this property

Lavande - Luxury accommodation with heated pool & A/C in former vigneron estate

La Maison Des Vignes (The House of Vines) sits in the heart of the lovely village of Tourouzelle, in the sunny Occitanie area of the South of France midway between the beaches of the Mediterranean and the medieval city of Carcassonne.

Situated in the Minervois and bordering the Corbiere wine regions, this former vigneron estate dates back to the 1600s and is built in the traditional stone typical of the region.

The architect-designed, renovated barn conversions have created 3 spacious gites (with Air Conditioning) which have all the character of the old stone walls, high ceilings and original wooden beams, combined with all the comforts and mod cons that will make your stay here all the more pleasurable.

Gite Lavande sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms and has 2 well-equipped bathrooms, a private terrace and weber gas barbeque. There is also a heated swimming pool in the landscaped, walled gardens.

Whether you wish to soak up the sunshine by the pool or the beach, enjoy the fabulous food and wine of the area, play golf, cycle or walk, you are sure to discover your joie de vivre at La Maison Des Vignes.

Please contact us for further details, including our 3D tour of the pool and gites

Access to the gite is via stairs to the large terrace that overlooks the walled gardens. The terrace is set up for outdoor dining & has a Weber gas BBQ. The spacious lounge, dining and kitchen area has wooden floors & high vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. There is a large sofa, seating area, an indoor dining area and a fully equipped kitchen.

Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed and wardrobe, as well as large French windows that provide access directly onto the private terrace. Bedroom 2 has a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), chest of drawers and wardrobe. Both of these bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms with walk in shower, toilet and sink.

The mezzanine level has a large galleried landing, which overlooks the living area with sofa. Bedroom 3 has a high sloping ceiling with exposed beams, a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), table d’appoint and wardrobe. There is also a bathroom on this level.

Beautiful apartment and pool
We spent a very nice week at Tourouzelle. Jonathan's apartment "Lavande" is very spacious, well equipped and we enjoyed the covered terrace. Jonathan provided a website with many good suggestions for restaurants and trips. Check-in and check-out were flexible and we felt very welcome.

A relaxing gem
We had a wonderful relaxing stay in Gite Lavande - a hidden gem tucked away in peaceful rural French village. Jonathan & Susannah were excellent hosts and the intro drinks party at the start of our week was a lovely way to meet the other two families staying on site. The gite was very comfortable and well equipped and the pool area was wonderful - we very much hope to be able to return again.

Wonderful place and owner
The facility was large enough for 6 or more people and had a great kitchen and living area. Jonathon was terrific and very responsive. He even loaned us a hack-saw to cut off the end of an oar to fit in our suitcase to take back to the U.S.

Fantastic week
We have recently returned from a lovely week in Tourouzelle. The location was really good, with so much to offer in the area to keep all members of the family happy. We enjoyed spending time by the pool and visiting the coast (Leucate Plage was lovely), walking in the hills (the four castles walk at Lastours highly recommended) and zip-wiring across the lake near Carcassone (the longest zip-wiring course we have done, and excellent value for money). We were really pleased to find such a good selection of bikes in the shed, and were able to find the right size bikes for the whole family (including 2 boys aged 11 and 8) to cycle to Homps and further on to the local lake. Not far away there is a great company called Eaurizon offering lots of activities from kayaking down the river to gorge-walking. (The kayaking was fab but we would recommend not choosing the shortest of the trips - it was over far too soon!) Carcassone itself was interesting, and the food market at Narbonne was fantastic. The gite itself was clean and comfortable and we really appreciated all the information Jonathan and Susannah provide in their welcome pack, as well as excellent communication beforehand. We would not hesitate to return to La Maison des Vignes and would highly recommend it to others.

A Fantastic Corner of the World
First trip Post Covid so a little bit nervous but the property was fantastic and Jonathan was a great host. The property had everything we needed but it was the little touches that really made it stand out. The BBQ and pool were used heavily but the Online Guide Jonathan created was fantastic and helped us really make the most of experiencing this beautiful and historic area for the first time. The only problem was we needed 2 weeks not 1 to tick off the Top 10 and even that would just be scratching the surface. Having Jonathan on site was also very reassuring not that anything went wrong.

The Place to be...
Gefunden? Buchen!

The Perfect French Holiday
We stayed here in August 2017 as a family of 6 renting the Lavande Gite. There are 3 Gites on site 2 x 3 bedroom and 1 x 2 bedroom. The Lavande is on two floors with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the kitchen level and a twin/double bedroom and separate bathroom upstairs. Note the Lavande and Coquelicot gites have 10 or so steps to get to them. Jonathan and Suzanna were very welcoming and put us at our ease straight away. They generously host a soiree once a week for the guests of the different gites to meet each other and themselves which is lovely. The (heated) pool area is an oasis and the high walls create a sun trap. The village is tranquil but there is a shop and a post office and at least 2 x degustation caves and the locals are friendly with some schoolboy/girl French being required to make yourself understood. Free bike borrowing is provided (there are approx. 6 adult sized bikes) and it's lovely to cycle through the vineyards and by the Canal du Midi. Good quality Weber gas BBQs are provided and the meat available from the local Utile near Homps is fabulous. Jonathan and Suzanna provide all the information you need on places to go to/see, things to do & places to eat and will book for you. The Chantovent restaurant in Minerve is a MUST. The area is lovely - there are plenty of local markets & Carcassonne is not far away. You will need a car though. We only scratched the surface of all this place has to offer and were made to feel so welcome that we will be returning in 2018. Thanks again Jonathan & Suzanna.

Holiday paradise
honestly don't know where to start because everything about La Maison Des Vignes is perfect. Usually when the holiday blurb states that the owners live on site I avoid, but on this occasion Jonathan and Suzanna being around made the holiday special. They are both so welcoming and helpful, from giving you tips about places you would like to visit to being honest about local restaurants. I can't praise them enough, they have the balance between being helpful and discrete absolutely spot on. We stayed in Gite Lavender and it was large enough for our family of five. The outdoor eating area was lovely and the swimming pool is wonderful, we had it to ourselves most of the time. The location is lovely, right in the middle of the village, which is a friendly welcoming place, there are no restaurants but it's just a short drive to Homps and Olonzac where there's a number of eating places catering for all tastes. It's a perfect base to explore this area of France as most places including the beaches are within an hours drive and also it's a lovely place to relax in the late afternoon and evening after a busy day exploring. My 8 year old son has asked me everyday since leaving 'when can we return' and he's never asked me that before, even when we came back from Disney, so it must be perfect!

Relaxing stay in wonderful setting
We had a great time in our gîte at La Maison des Vignes. Gîte Lavande is a very spacious place for up to 8 people. We were only 4 so the kids had their own bedroom each. Great architecture and beautiful views over the vinyards. Wonderful pool area with plenty of space for all. The hosts Jonathan and Suzanna are very, very friendly and have some good advice for each activity that you might plan. Always helpful! They made us feel like home. We enjoyed the welcome soirées very much when you get to know the other guests and the hosts and taste some local specialties. Also enjoyed a local village party with music and dance and more great local food. The area is wonderful for wine tasting, riding the bikes along the Canal du Midi, exploring the countryside with beautiful gorges (Minerve), shopping at local markets, medieval historic castles, fortresses and cities (Carcassonne, Lagrasse, Narbonne,...), fishing in the river Aude, swimming in the rivers and going to the beach (35 minutes to Gruissan Plage), canoeing on the river Aude and even horse riding and naturally relaxing at the great pool. We would very much recommend spending one ore two weeks at La Maison des Vignes.

A rural French haven
We had a delightful time staying at Lavande in early September 2013. The property was well maintained and equipped with all that we needed. Jonathan and Suzanna the owners were very welcoming and helpful with their advice of where to visit and eat. Jonathan even arranged for the tickets for the 4 of us to go and see Montpellier play Toulouse in a Top 14 rugby match. Carcassone, Minerve, Narbonne and Montpellier well worth a visit for the history and shopping. The local village shop was wonderful for the daily croissants and bread whilst there are bigger supermarkets not too far away. There was also a very good weekly market at Olonzac. Megan and Anna enjoyed staying by the pool whilst Jackie and I managed to go on the bikes provided through the local vineyards and along the canal du Midi. Overall it was a very comfortable gite with plenty to do for all ages. We hope to visit again in the not too distant future.

Sometimes you get lucky
Our planning was last minute. We were 2 adult couples, one of whom were first time visitors to France. We all have no hesitation in recommending this property to new or experienced travellers to the region. La Maison Des Vignes is in an excellent location for exploring the coast, mountains, castles and historic towns or none of the above next to the pool. Jonathan and Suzanna, the owners, took a personal interest in our experience, maintained the facilities to a high standard and run their properties professionally. Welcome packs with pre-specified foodstuffs and the get together with the other gite vacationers added to the experience. Two of the gites are accessed via wooden steps (with fittings for child gates).

Fabulous La Maison Des Vignes
Gite Lavande was a fabulous place for our family (2 teens) this summer (Aug 2013). Very nice accommodation with a super terrace and bbq made for relaxed sunny evenings (with a nice glass of the local Festiano rosé). And the pool was perfect. Our apartment/terrace was part of the complex, but also separate for independent living. We very much enjoyed being able to walk to the local shop for the croissants and fresh bread in this picturesque village. Jonathan and Suzanna were very hospitable and full of helpful tips. We had a lovely sunny week and would definitely recommend this property.

Return visit
This was our second visit to La Maison Des Vignes. We have a rule we never return to a venue for a second time, however fantastic, but we really wanted to revisit the region so broke our rule. On this occasion we stayed in gite Lavande. La Maison Des Vignes is located in a lovely little French village called Tourouzelle. The village has a small shop for where you can order croissants etc for breakfast. The gite is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need and is well maintained. A fabulous patio to sit on and enjoy a glass of the excellent local and the bedrooms are a really good size, clean and very well decorated. There is also a new entrance to unload your luggage which makes arriving and for example the provision of picnic backpacks. The open plan living areas is spacious with a mezzanine sitting area above it with a daybed and a bookcase with lots of interesting novels and guides to the area. The seating areas outside each gite includes a gas barbecues. A welcome evening on the day after our arrival was an excellent opportunity to meet the other guests and Jonathan and Suzanna whose local knowledge is invaluable for recommendations on local places to visit, restaurants or any other questions you have. It was a pleasure to meet the other families also staying in the gites. The swimming pool was kept very clean. Since our last visit an additional area has been added to sit and relax in a covered environment. You can also have massages and treatments. We enjoyed our relaxing days around the pool! There are shaded areas and places to sit in the sun and plenty of sunbeds. As expected in France there are gates at both ends of the the pool to ensure the safety of children. When we could bear to tear ourselves away from the pool we did venture out to see the sights and eat in some of the excellent restaurants in Homps and Minerve. We took out bicycles one day to explore the area. These are supplied free to guests along with helmets. We had a really great time riding through the stunning local countryside. Our week spent at La Maison des Vignes was the last in a three week trip that included Paris, Barcelona and Spain. Returning to the gites felt so right, just the relaxing finish we dreamed of. Having broken the habit of not returning there will now be a third time. We felt very much at home in the gite and totally relaxed, it was a joy to stay there.

Very enjoyable holiday, great hosts.
We stayed in Lavande at the end of the 2012 summer season and really enjoyed our holiday. The gite is spacious and well maintained with a high standard of fittings and furniture and the pool is large with comfortable furniture and kept in good order on a daily basis. I particularly enjoyed the use of one of the mountain bikes and found plenty of local cycle routes including the virtually traffic free country roads, marked pathways and canal footpaths. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby in Homps and more in other local villages, especially those along the canal. The file of local information provided on arrival includes useful information about a number of them to help make a choice. Jonathan and Suzannah were great hosts and we enjoyed their company (and plenty of their wine!) at the informal welcome evening which put us and other guests at ease and gave us useful tips about local attractions, where to eat and where what was available in the village.

Late booking late summer break
We were incredibly lucky to have this gite recommended by friends who live nearby and for it to be available at short notice because of a cancellation. We enjoyed the lovely pool (where our 8 yr old has learnt to breaststroke properly through the sheer amount of time spent in it) and the enclosed landscaping which is lovely and private despite being in the centre of the village. Our covered external terrace was fantastic for watching the storms that happened during 3 of the nights that we were there and for eating every meal. We were two families of 5 and 2 and were able to share the accommodation with no problem. The gite and fittings and fixtures were as good as new when we arrived and we witnessed the thorough cleaning and preparation for the following occupants before we left. Bed linen was beautifully clean and the beds comfortable. The location is perfect for cities, mountains, beaches and the Canal du Midi which we cycled along in the shade of the plane trees. We didn't eat out much but there are great restaurants nearby and the pizza van that appears on Thursday evenings was fun and added to the sociable interaction between the 3 gites that also took place around the pool. Jonathan and Susannah were good hosts with a light touch. Their welcoming party allowed us to get to know the occupants of the other gites (and the local wines) which added to the relaxed feeling at La Maison Des Vignes. Hopefully we will be back.

Review of La Maison des Vignes
We really enjoyed our stay in the gite-the pool was a great bonus in the hot weather. The gite was beautifully kept and is situated in a lovely old village. The owners were on hand to help make our stay as pleasant as possible. We highly recommend these gites.

Summer '12 Lavande Rental
This was a great property. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Jonathan and Susannah were great hosts. Things kicked off to a good start with a welcome evening where we got to meet the other guests over wine and canapés. The gite was well fitted out with some very nice touches like bathroom robes for everyone, bikes, etc. If I had some minor gripes then these would be the lack of air-conditioning in the property and the TV. I appreciate that you do not go on holiday to watch the TV but the expectation is that it should be a reasonably sized flat screen. I do not want to finish on a negative. Neither of these would prevent me recommending the property. It has so much going for it. I loved the area as well. Tourouzelle is very small. Assuming that you are happy with some short drives there is so much to do / see and most importantly for us a wide range of great restaurants available locally. BTW I almost forgot to mention the availability of great local but very inexpensive wine.

A slice of heaven
We spent a lovely 2 weeks here with our 2 year old daughter. The owners were on hand and provided excellent service including a welcome drinks evening to prove info on the local area. The property was very clean and very well maintained, including the pool area. Located in a pretty village close to the Canal du Midi and with many other villages very close by. a great base for visiting Carcassonne, Narbonne, Minerve and many picturesque towns. BBQ on the balcony and equipped picnic bag provided were nice touches that we made good use of. Sitting on the balcony listening to the church bells was idyllic.

La Maison des Vignes est magnifique!
I would thoroughly recommend La Maison des Vignes to my friends, acquaintances and anyone else in need of a relaxing holiday in an idyllic location, staying in beautiful accommodation. My family have stayed in both the Coquelicot and Lavande gîtes and found the accommodation comfortable, clean and well maintained, with all 'mod-cons' provided. The owners were exceptionally welcoming, sharing their 'local knowledge' and providing a first rate service. We took up the option of a beauty/relaxation treatment in the comfort of the gîte - a wonderful idea to make the holiday even more relaxing. The children adored the pool and spent hours in it playing safely with the "woggles" and other toys. We visited Carcassone, Beziers, Narbonne and Abbaye de Fontfroide, and even made a trip to Spain to visit the Dalí Museum (about 90 minutes away) If you don't want to go too far, there are even bicycles provided - perfect for a ride to Homps and along the Canal du Midi. Really can't fault our experience - even the weather was beautiful! I'm sure we'll be returning again!

Wonderful Holiday
We spent a week at La Maison Des Vignes, in Gite Lavande. Having found this through the internet without any personal recommendations, we were a little unsure of what to expect, but it did not disappoint, if anything it exceeded our expectations. We went with two small boys, who spent as much time as they could in the generous-sized pool, when we weren’t dragging them off to see the numerous castles and abbeys in the local area. There is plenty of space around the pool to lounge and even a large table for group meals, but I preferred to sit and read in the shade of the olive tree, where I could keep an eye on the kids and escape the heat of the day. The gite was very well appointed with everything we needed to self-cater, but we actually went out and ate in some of the many restaurants in the local towns more often than we anticipated, finding the food to be very good and reasonably priced, including the pizza van which comes to the village once a week! The accommodation was exactly as described, with lovely wooden floors and spotless kitchen and bathrooms. The bathrobes were a nice touch, and the whole gite has a lovely homely feel. We would like to thank Jonathon for being a terrific host. He was unobtrusive, but always on hand to answer any questions we had about the local area. The welcome evening with Jonathon, Suzanna and the guests from the other gites was a really nice idea and gave us a really quick insight into how to get the most from our holiday. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this to our friends, in fact we already have, and we look forward to returning as soon as we can!
