About this property

Olivier - Luxury accommodation with heated pool & A/C in former vigneron estate

La Maison Des Vignes (The House of Vines) sits in the heart of the lovely village of Tourouzelle, in the sunny Occitanie area of the South of France midway between the beaches of the Mediterranean and the medieval city of Carcassonne.

Situated in the Minervois and bordering the Corbiere wine regions, this former vigneron estate dates back to the 1600s and is built in the traditional stone typical of the region.

The architect-designed, renovated barn conversions have created 3 spacious gites (with Air Conditioning) which have all the character of the old stone walls, high ceilings and original wooden beams, combined with all the comforts and mod cons that will make your stay here all the more pleasurable.

Gite Olivier sleeps 4-6 people in 2 or 3 bedrooms and has 3 well-equipped bathrooms a private courtyard and gas barbeque. There is also a heated swimming pool in the landscaped, walled gardens.

Access is via secluded gardens and to the front of the gite is a large terrace that is set up for outdoor dining and has a sturdy table and chairs & Weber gas BBQ.

From the terrace you enter the spacious (41m²) lounge (with air conditioning), dining and kitchen area which has wooden floors, high vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and original exposed stone wall. There is a comfortable sofa and seating area, TV and an indoor dining area.

Bedroom 1 has a comfortable king-size bed, table d'appoint and wardrobe, french windows lead onto the terrace. The en-suite bathroom has a powerful shower, WC and basin. Bedroom 2 has a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), chest of drawers and wardrobe. The adjacent bathroom has a jacuzzi bath, powerful shower, WC and basin.

Bedroom 3 is in a separate courtyard annex (with air conditioning) and has a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), chest of drawers and wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom has a powerful shower, WC and basin.

Fantastic Place, Fantastic Hosts

Beautiful location in a small quiet village yet only 20 minutes from Nabonne with the Mediterranean coast a few minutes further on. The hosts, Jonathan and Suzanna are lovely and go out of their way to make your holiday even better. The app for general information is really brilliant, the accommodation is perfect and really well equipped, the pool and outside areas equally great. There were five of us and we all loved it. Great place, great hosts.

Gite Olivier Tourouzelle

Excellent week at this gite. Lovely pool and welcoming hosts. Tourouzelle and surrounding area has much to offer. Most notable for us were the beaches, Leucate Plage in particular. Weather stunning if very hot as the canicule hit south and mid France.

Relaxing

Jonathan and Suzanne are fantastic hosts. There was excellent communication prior to arrival and during our stay we were informed of local events and any questions we had about the area were promptly answered. The accommodation was clean and had everything that we needed. Our girls, 7 and 11, loved the swimming pool. The local shop/restaurant had what we needed and were so friendly and accommodating. We loved our holiday. Thank you so much 😊

Gite Oliver-Les Maison de Vignes

The Gite is very well appointed with plenty of china etc.&the ipod docking station allowed us to enjoy our music. The decor is beautiful and the photos on the website are just how it is. We were there a little early for the pool to be used but it is a lovely area for relaxation. The Corner Store & Post Office are conveniently located right outside the front gate which is great & restaurants are just 5-10 min drive away. The Pizza Van comes to the Village every Tuesday, and they make a good "Italian style"pizza....great! The welcome drinks & nibbles provided by Jonathan & Suzanne were a nice touch & added to our experience. The owners were very helpful with advice on what to see & do & Jonathan was always extremely prompt with responses to emails which was great. The only criticisms were.... It would be good to have cable TV with access to BBC/CNN With so much going on in the world today ,it is important to know what's going on "out there" in relation to flights etc. Also the requirement to "strip the beds & fold the towels "neatly" and place them on the kitchen table " felt a little like a school camp. Every other Gite we have stayed in, the owners have dealt with this. It was a minor negative & would not prevent us from staying there again.

Little slice of paradise in Tourouzelle

Really enjoyed staying here with our family of 5. There’s a lot to do around the area within driving distance and this property in Tourouzelle is a beautiful relaxed place to stay. Lovely pool, near perfect weather and our Gite Oliver was roomy with all the basics for cooking and washing. We enjoyed eating in the courtyard and visiting with other guest. Hosts were very friendly and accommodating, excellent guestbook for recommendations of fun things to do. Would have liked to have stayed a bit longer to really unwind.

Excellent experience in Tourouzelle

On our first visit to the area, Tourouzelle and especially La Maison des Vignes, was ideal. Jonathan and Susanna are exemplary hosts and their carefully developed property is comfortable, clean, and charming. The village is serene and a good base to explore the area. We hope to return, stay longer, and enjoy all this beautiful area has to offer.

Paradise in the South of France.

So this was our second visit to LAMDV and we NEVER go anywhere twice so I think that says it all already!! We had a fantastic time again. Jonathan and Suzanna were the perfect hosts as they were the previous year. We loved the welcome evenings ( a great touch ) and the village party was just fabulous. Lovely to see the community come together and have fun. ( Portugal Pete was the highlight ) We played tennis on the local courts on a number of days or we chilled by the well kept pool or took a walk around the village at night to see the amazing sunsets. We visited Perpignan / The Abbaye De Fonfroide / Homps / Minerve / Olonzac Market / Carcassonne / Leucate Beach and many other places and just had the best time. Jonathan and Susanna recommended Chantovent restaurant in Minerve for a birthday celebration. They booked it for us and it was just fabulous. One of the best meals we have had. Staff were so friendly and the food was just amazing. We would definitely recommend it and somewhere we won't forget. We do not have any complaints. Location is fab. Owners are great and accommodation is second to none. ( It has everything you need ) It feels like home from home and we will definitely return again. Look out 2019 as we will be there. Relaxing holiday with all the comforts of home

We have stayed at La Maison des Vignes (LMdV) twice now. The first being in 2013 and again this year. When you find somewhere that ticks all the boxes there's a tendency to want to keep it a secret so that you can easily book again! I don't go back to the same place without good reason and there are plenty of good reasons to go to LMdV. If you want an opportunity to relax, unwind, explore wonderful countryside whilst sampling great wine and food then LMdV is for you. LMdV is run by a lovely English couple Jonathan and Suzanna Grix, who are perfect hosts and who strive to ensure that every home comfort is available to you in their gites, which have been tastefully constructed from the old barns that were once part of a vineyard estate. We have stayed in Gite Lavande and now Olivier but stay in any of the 3 gites and you won't be disappointed. They are fully detailed on the website. The wireless internet is pretty good too, which obviously means you'll not need to speak to or entertain your teenage children for the duration of your holiday! Jonathan and Suzanna hold a welcome soirée on the Monday evening where guests are encouraged to come and meet each other over a few glasses of local wine and some nibbles which is a great way of getting to know your fellow guests...not to mention it being a cheap night out drinking Jonathan's wine!! ;-) Here also you get to hear first hand about places to visit, Carcassone, Minerve, Narbonne and Fontfroide Abbey. Further afield there's Beziers, Montpellier and the Camargue. The beaches are nearby with our favourites Leucate and Le Franqui about 45 minutes away. If that all seems too much then you can lounge by the pool, which has plenty of room and areas of shade available throughout the day, when the sun gets too much. The village of Tourouzelle is tiny with just the one shop which is nonetheless well stocked with provisions and you can order your daily baguettes, croissants etc so that you don't need to get up early to make sure you get something! If you're really lucky Jonathan will arrange a dinner cooked by the local Mairie (mayor) in his own home. He's a fantastic cook and was the most memorable experience for us and our fellow guests when we stayed in 2013. So if you want a relaxing holiday or even an active holiday then LMdV is the place for you...but don't tell everyone straightaway because you'll want to go back again...like I do.

Fantastic accomodation in a beautuful location

We stayed in Gite Olivier with our 2 sons 19yrs and 15yrs and one of their girlfriends. We had the extra room and found the accommodation fabulous. Jonathan and Suzanna were both friendly/welcoming and very helpful no matter what we asked or needed. The welcome evening was a great idea as then we got to know the guests staying in the other 2 gites and we thoroughly enjoyed everyone's company. Johnathan organised a trip to the local wine cave which we did with some of the other guests which was really interesting and again good fun. We went to Narbonne / Carcassonne / Minerve / Biz Minervois / Ribaute / and many more - all of which were recommended in the welcome folder and everywhere we went was truly beautiful. Our favourite visit was to the Abbaye De Fontfroid. A truly spectacular place. The local Tourouzelle store was very handy and great to have fresh bread every day. Jonathan recommended the locally grown peaches and apricots from the village which again were fabulous. The swimming pool was always clean and was a great temperature - we were worried going in June that it may be cold but we were in it every day. There are plenty of sun loungers for everyone and the covered area in the shade worked well for rest bite from the sun and it was lovely to sit under in the evening and watch the sunsets. We had a fantastic holiday and the only down side was having to leave. Thanks to both of you for such a wonderful stay. The Kerlins

SUPER stay/place in S-Fr!

Very Nice, well decorated gite in a beautiful, quiet place in the south of France. Perfect place to be with your family (we came with 4 kids, 19-28 years old) or with friends. Just 40 min drive to the sea, nice walk and bike possibilities as well. The hosts were very friendly, always willing to assist you whenever you have questions and the pool was wonderful. W'll be back!!

Wonderful holiday in Tourouzelle

Our second visit to the wonderful Maison Des Vignes in the Languedoc and just as enjoyable as the first. This was our first stay in gite Olivier, having stayed previously in Coquelicot and I have to say that both gites are sympathetically designed and superbly kitted out with some useful home comforts. The properties have been cleverly designed to retain the original character of the former barn (wine storage) but with a fresh, modern feel. The presentation & preparation of the gite was immaculate and the owners take great care to provide everything that you need for your stay. The pool area is very comfortable and conducive to RnR - our kids loved the pool! Jonathan and Suzanne are very welcoming hosts and we really loved the evening get together which they arranged for all the guests, which allowed us to sample some of the delicious local food and wine, produced in the village itself. They have a wealth of local knowledge regarding local activities and attractions which they are on hand to provide if so needed. For cycling fans, Jonathan is able to take you on guided road trips in the gorgeous local area, but be prepared to tackle some challenging hills! Luckily the generous pool is waiting for you on return to massage those tired legs! The location of La Maison Des Vignes is ideal; whether you want to pop over to the village boulangerie for croissant and coffee in the morning, visit the one of the vineyards in the village for degustation or access the canal du midi (only a short drive/cycle away), it's all on your doorstep. The only negative, if you're a beach lover is the slightly longer drive to the beach (30-45 mins) but having said that the beaches are lovely, so worth the drive. Things we would recommend seeing if you're travelling with kids; the nearby ancient town of Minerve, the historic town of Carcassonne, the water park at Narbonne plage, accro park tree climbing centre in Alet les Bains (Corbieres mountains), visiting the lac in Homps with excellent beach and water sports, and of course cycling / boating along the lovely canal du midi. There are some wonderful restaurants nearby; we particularly loved 'Le Bistro Gourmand' in Homps, but would avoid 'En Bonne Companie' which despite it's good reputation for food, demonstrates an obvious dislike for guests with with young children.... Overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending La Maison Des Vignes to anyone. We look forward to coming back again soon, Fred & Aby Aug 2013

August 2013 - Gite Olivier

Our party comprised two for the 1st week, and then we were joined by our daughter and her boyfriend for the 2nd. The overall impression of Tourouzelle and the surrounding countryside is wonderful. A beautiful village set in lush rolling countryside. Arriving at La Maison Des Vignes was not a disappointment, quietly settled in the centre of the village and yet secluded and not overlooked by other buildings. We had wonderful weather and the village looked at its best, no doubt. Jonathan quickly showed us the property and dealt with the few formalities. For us the layout of Olivier was perfect. The main building, with two double bedrooms, kitchen and sitting room, plus bathrooms, was perfect. Louise and Jon moved into the separate (within the same courtyard) building which comprises a double bedroom and very large bathroom. Both buildings are joined by the raised decked patio area with table, chairs and BBQ. A tree keeps the decked area in permanent dappled shade, a definite necessity in the low 30c temperatures we enjoyed throughout the 2 weeks. The pool is a very good size with plenty of room for 'proper' swimming, or just cooling off in the water. There is a very comprehensive information book in the gite providing information of local attractions, restaurants, activities etc which we found invaluable. Of the three gites within the property we felt that Olivier gave the best overall combination of privacy and access to the pool. It also has a separate entrance/exit to the rear of the building. Jonathan and Suzanna were excellent hosts and managed to get the balance just right in terms of being there if needed but leaving you to enjoy the place very much as if it was one’s own. Any concerns we may have had regarding the sharing of the pool area were immediately put aside once we met the others who were an extremely friendly and relaxed group of people. We all got on very well indeed. I do think that we were very lucky in this regard, and it is possible to imagine that things might have been slightly different if we had not all got on so well. Two highlights were the ‘introduction’ evening when all guest meet for a drink and canapés at Jonathan and Suzanna’s beautiful house which is within the same grounds. The second was the dinner at the Mayor’s house, where the Mayor and his wife entertained all of us to the most wonderful dinner. A really great evening! Overall we would highly recommend La Maison Des Vignes.

Great gite great location

We stayed in Gite Lavande for a week in middle of June. 5 adults and 2 young children. The villa was spacious with original beams and had everything we needed. BBQ on balcony was a great touch. Jonathan was friendly and made sure we had everything needed. He even offers to get essential shopping bits ready for arrival (including local wine!). The drinks evening he and his wife hosted was a lovely and a good opportunity to meet people from the other villas and get some information about the area. Swimming pool was clean with plenty of space. Gate on this and on stairs in villa made it perfect for the children. They offer beauty treatments at the gite which were great! Tourouzelle is small but has a village shop (pretty much next door to the gite) and 3 vineyards that all do wine tasting and are the places to pick up wine for the holiday. Cave cooperative was our favourite. The area is beautiful. We would recommend trips to Homps, Olonzac, Minerve and Carcassone. Even though the area is quiet and peaceful there is lots to do and only 45 minutes from a lots of lovely beaches on the coast.

Fantastic!

We have spent many a holiday in the South of France but this was, by far, the nicest location and the best accommodation we have stayed in. We researched many Gites and apartments prior to deciding on this one but we got the feeling as soon as we read the description of this Gite that we were onto a winner! The accommodation was first class - comfortable, clean and extremely well equipped. The constant hot water was a real bonus! The Gite had a folder which was crammed full of local knowledge and a well stocked book shelf. Although we did not watch the television much there were all the usual English channels and a DVD player. The pool and the grounds were a delight and were very well maintained. Jonathan and Suzanna were excellent hosts and we were invited to join them on two occasions when we were treated to local wine and produce - an opportunity to get to known each other in addition to the other guests. Their customer service was exemplary and all delivered with a sense of humour! The location is ideal for walking and cycling and we were able to use the bikes from the Gite. The area is beautiful with many places to visit either for the day or just for a few hours before returning to the pool! An ideal location to chill out and slow the pace down. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would have no reservations in recommending this property to family and friends. We very much hope to return at some point in the future. Middle aged couple in need of a rest:-)

We had the most wonderful week in gite Olivier. The accommodation is lovely with all home comforts including an exceptionally well equipped kitchen and fabulous Jacuzzi bath. The pool was gorgeous with plenty of comfortable seating in the shade if required and sun beds around the pool. There was plenty to do and see in the surrounding area and Jonathon was a generous and attentive host helping with tourist information and recommending things to do and see. We wouldn't hesitate to go back, a great place for extended families and friends.

Great time had by all!

This was the second time we'd been to La Maison des Vignes, but the first time we'd stayed in Gite Olivier. We had two children under 1 with us and so it was perfect - nice and secluded with a gate to the swimming pool and all on one level so we didn't need to worry about stairs. Jonathan and Suzanna made us feel very much at home and even suggested a local firm that we could hire bikes from which was a great way to explore the local area. We'll definitely be back for a third visit!

Perfect for family Holiday

La Mason des Vignes was perfect for an autumn break in the sun with 2 small kids, we rented Olivier which allowed another couple to come and stay with a separate bedroom and bathroom away from the noise of our girls. teh Pool was perfect, Jonathan and Suzanne were super hosts. Gitte was clean ans very well equipped. you do need a car to get to places of interest.

Home from home, dishwasher etc! After, I think seven years a little TLC on the bathrooms, furniture etc wouldn't be out of order, and indoor lighting could be improved. Being in the village was great in a wonderful location enabling us to enjoy sightseeing and vineyards as well as unspoilt beaches. The ability to pop out for fresh bread at the alimentation on the doorstep was very welcome. The owners, Jonathan and Susanna, are generous and helpful, so a really relaxed feel. We have booked for next year as the visit was a great success, despite the acess which make it difficult for the less able bodied. Pool well maintained an good to use.

Have just returned from a lovely 2 weeks here. The property was beautiful , comfortable and well maintained with attention to detail. The pool was in the most perfect setting and very peaceful. Jonathan and Suzanne were excellent hosts and the welcome nights very pleasant . The gite was very rural and you definately need to be prepared to do some driving if you wish to sight see. Would recommend this property to friends.

Gem In The South Of France

After weeks of researching on the internet, I stumbled across La Maison Des Vignes and knew it was the right place for our family of four. Our week there confirmed that I'd made the right choice. Jonathan and Suzanna are perfect hosts who have done everything to ensure a carefree and enjoyable time away. From making sure that we had basic groceries upon arrival to recommending (and booking) local restaurants, our well appointed apartment (Lavande) was the ideal vacation getaway. Tourouzelle is well situated to visit the sites - wineries, castles and Carcasonne. As the last leg of a month away, we just wanted to stick close to home and apart from a few short excursions, we found ourselves enjoying the pool, drinking rose and just relaxing. Our two girls made friends with the two other children at the gite so everyone had a good time. The village shop is just across the street and a very well stocked supermarket with excellent cheeses, meats and pates is a short drive away. A highlight of the week was dinner at the Mayor's - enjoying French food outdoors with great company. If you're there when the Mayor hosts one of these evenings, it's a must do. Thanks Jonathan and Suzanna - hope to see you again one day!
