About this property

BARN CONVERSION HIDAWAY RETREAT IN THE BEAUTIFUL SUFFOLK COUNTRYSIDE.

Situated in the quietest of settings in the beautiful rural county of Suffolk. The property enjoys views of the peaceful countryside from its idyllic isolated setting. From this restful hideaway one can explore the many local footpaths and lanes on foot or visit nearby attractions by car or bicycle, from windmills, churches, nature reserves to steam attractions, sports venues and a wealth of local shops, pubs and eateries. The historic towns of Cambridge and Norwich are within an hour's drive, and the iconic coastlines of Norfolk or Suffolk make for a memorable day out.

DROVERS COTTAGE (2 bed sleeps 6)

Being set within a peaceful environment, Drover's cottage has been designed in sympathy with the listed farmhouse nearby, retaining oak beams and design features typical of the region's historic architecture. This cottage being a conversion from an original farm building specifically to supply the needs of the holiday maker, there is everything one could wish for to facilitate a restful, rural escape. The well-appointed kitchen area includes fridge/freezer, range style oven, washing machine and dish washer. The traditional bathroom featuring roll top bath is in addition to the en-suite facilities to both bedrooms. The open plan layout of the kitchen and spacious dining and living areas gives an airy open feel whilst at the same time the wood burner encourages a snug, warm atmosphere. There are TVs with DVD players in both the lounge and bedrooms, and a generous enclosed garden with dog proof fencing, BBQ and patio area with table and chairs.
Additionally, there is a covered BBQ area, ample parking and uniquely a decking area set in the middle of one of the lakes, where one can soak up the rays or watch the sunset with a gin and tonic to hand.
A track runs from the back of the lakes straight on to a drove that heads off in different directions across the countryside, lovely walks and great for dogs.

A Perfect Getaway

A lovely, wonderfully quiet place to stay, which is a necessity for the purpose of our visit to Suffolk. Our second visit, and I'm certain it won't be our last. The property is spacious, clean, comfortable, and has all that is needed. There is ample parking right next to the cottage. I honestly cannot fault it.

A Wonderful Place To Stay!

The cottage exceeded our expectations in every way and we had a really lovely stay. The location was quiet and peaceful, surrounded by lovely countryside and villages. We had two toddlers and it was spacious and safe for them, with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Lots of local parks, with Banham Zoo and Bressingham Trains within 20 minutes. The cottage was spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything you needed to make meals, and some tea/coffee/milk was great on arrival before our food shop arrived. Beds & bedding were very comfortable, and each bathroom had nice towels provided. We didn’t end up taking our dogs with us but the garden would have been perfect for them being fully enclosed and there were nice walks on the doorstep. We’d love to come back one day, there was nothing we could fault!

Lovely property in a lovely location.

Really couldn't fault it. We were here to visit our son's R.A.F memorial and grave in Honington and wanted peace, calm, and tranquillity, which this provided. Location is wonderful with easy access, and parking adjacent to the property. Cleanliness and facilities were all we could have hoped for. The accomodation is warm, comfortable, and maintained to a high standard throughout. Would highly recommend.

Top location!

The apartment was very spacey and the kitchen was more than complete! The cottage is located at a farm and the neighborhood is very quiet with lots of ‘wildlife’ like bunnies, squirrels and buzzards. Fantastic!

Lovely barn conversion with walks from the doorstep.

We found this lovely, comfortable barn conversion in a good location with walks from the doorstep across fields to stumble across some lovely, old villages. The barn provided everything for our needs throughout with a great garden space for dogs. We found it very peaceful and will be looking to book again. The only problem we had was to access the link to message the host re. checking in procedure.

Just perfect!

A fabulous clean, spacious and comfortable accommodation with everything you could need. We have now spent dozens of long weekends at different dog-friendly cottages in Suffolk and Norfolk, and this one is right up there for such a beautiful setting, large dog secure garden, spotlessly clean and peaceful surroundings. Thank you for having us.

Fabulous Accommodation and Location

This property has been so well designed and furnished it is superbly comfortable and amazingly clean. The owner has definitely gone the extra mile by providing lots of lovely little extras. The location is peaceful, beautiful and driving around the countryside is a real pleasure. Whilst staying (during the heatwave), my mother and I decided to find some lovely dog friendly places to eat and we certainly did. The first was the Bull Inn in Bacton (great tuna steak), followed by The Anchor at Walberswick (which is right next to an all year round dog friendly beach - kiln smoked salmon on a bed of pickled mooli and capers), and lastly The Burston Crown at Burston (really lovely roast dinner, with amazing gravy).

A Hidden Gem!

We stayed in Drovers as a party of for adults and two dogs for 4 nights. We have had a great time. The property was fully equipped and well maintained. Large airy living area with plenty of room to move about. didn't get the chance to use the log fire due to the lovely weather but a bag of logs, firelighters and lighters were there waiting if we wished to do so. Nice size rear garden and dog proof - we had a bearded collie and a cockerpoo who throughly enjoyed it. Safe, secure and private and direct access out to the pond area and water decking with bench set. Really quiet location and very relaxing. Sara was very helpful before arriving with questions about "what do we need to bring" as so often we end up taking "everything bar the kitchen sink " on self catering holidays but not this time. Bedrooms were compact and both had TVs, wardrobes and comfy beds. My husband and I had the wetroom ensuite and it was spacious and the only negative woul dbe the water pressure fromthe shower, but our one at home is super powerful so perhaps its a normal shower pressure for most people. Our friends had the other room and they said their shower was great. There was also a standalone bathroom just off the kitchen area with a lovely bath in it. Came in very handy. The settees( also convert to beds) were comfortable ish but I wouldn't want to spend longer than 4 nights sitting on them. All in all we were impressed with the place and would definately visit again. We recommend the Hopton Chippy - all freshly cooked to order, The Mill Inn (not a looker from the outside) but food was lovely.

Lovely cottage break

A lovely renovated barn, with everything you need for a home from home experience. Very clean and spacious, as well as being dog friendly. Lots of walks for your dogs in the surrounding fields. We spent 4 nights here and its was lovely. A trip into Diss is definitely worthwhile, with lots of independent shops you won't be Dissappointed. A visit to The Mill Inn, which serves beautiful home cooked food is also another must, don't be put off by the 1970,s decor the food was fabulous. I would definitely recommend. 5☆

About the host

Hosted by Sara Fyfe

Host profile image
Since moving to Suffolk from the Fens of Cambridgeshire we have always wanted to find ways of using and preserving the lovely old farm buildings at North Hall farm which surround our lovingly restored listed farmhouse. Creating holiday homes from some of these barns will maintain their active life whilst at the same time allowing a greater number of people to experience the tranquility and peace of this most beautiful of rural-English locations.
As we both come from a farming heritage moving away from the countryside was never an option once we were no longer farming, and developing opportunities at our new location helps us achieve our aim of the rural life we both so enjoy.
We have aimed to create a holiday destination which will give the visitor an insight into the delights of living in this unique corner of the British countryside, and sincerely hope that you will enjoy your stay with us.
We look forward to welcoming you to your restful country retreat.

Why they chose this property

In the conversion of the stables and the old dairy into holiday cottages, we have striven to create holiday homes which offer everything we ourselves would look for in an English countryside destination. The cottages are purpose built as holiday homes and as such the layout, design and functionality of the properties are ideally suited to your needs. At the same time, we have maintained a sympathetic approach to the original design and location of the cottages. The results are living spaces with a traditional look and feel, but which incorporates all mod-cons.
From the restful, peacefully located cottage, one is in easy reach of much of East Anglia and its attractions, whilst there are a host of excellent restaurants and watering holes nearby.
The area is a joy for the cyclist or walking enthusiast. Country lanes are not too hilly or challenging, and there are many little woods and corners for the perfect picnic spots.
Despite the peace and isolated feel of the location the properties are easily reached by road or rail, making them ideal for a weekend getaway.

What makes this property unique

The cottage enjoys fabulous views over rural landscape, and peace and quiet on a level rarely found in today's world.
Hostlers and Drovers are surrounded by meadows and ponds and are set at the end of a tree lined driveway over 250 yards from the nearest public road. This isolated setting means it is not unusual to witness deer, rabbits, a wide variety of birds and other wildlife at the site.
Outside there is a semi-covered BBQ area and a decked seating area on the pond.
Free range eggs are available from our own hens, and much other local produce is easily obtained locally, including organic produce.
Light pollution levels are very low and sitting outside of an evening gazing at the stars is a particular delight.
