Lovely thatched cottage

We had a lovely stay here. The cottage is beautifully done up with a great private garden. It’s walking distance to the local amenities and not far from the coast. Would recommend it.

Short break

This was our first time on the Isle of Wight and we enjoyed it very much. Nowhere was over busy and everybody we met was very friendly. The cottage was perfect for us and in a good location and the enclosed garden was great for our dog. The local shop and pub was only a nice flat walk away.

Home from home

The property was fantastic, beautiful house and gardens with everything you could need. The two double beds were exceptionally comfortable and the addition of the games room was a great extra. The garden was secure for dogs and was a great space to sit in the evenings.

Fantastic stay

What a fantastic cottage! It has everything you need to make your stay super relaxing and memorable. A great location too. Brighstone is a great village complete with village shop and pub. Stayed here with teens and a dog and the games room and beautiful garden kept everyone happy. Would definitely stay again.

Home from home

Lovely, well appointed property. Good communication with host. The small games room was well used as was the smart TV. Very well insulated, not draughty. High quality beds and furnishings. I was slightly concerned by the oil boiler in the downstairs utility room just off the kitchen which also contains a downstairs toilet. When the boiler was on it gave off some fumes which I found unpleasant and I wasn't used to. The room isn't well ventilated and I didn't want the fumes in the kitchen or downstairs sitting room. Solved by opening the outside door. Only gripe about this lovely property.

Perfect location to explore IoW

Lovely property, which despite being on a main road was in a very peaceful location. What a delight to have only the noise of the stream coming in at night to lull you to sleep! The property was well equipped and had everything we needed for 2 adults, a 14 month old and a dog. Great little village and only 35 mins leisurely stroll to the coast. An ideal location for exploring the IoW. So great to have Mottistone Gardens only 5 mins drive, who allow you to take your dog to walk the grounds. Great communication pre stay from the host, who was most helpful with some questions I had. A couple of very minor practical items missing (bin in bathroom and a large knife in the kitchen) would have been useful but otherwise a fantastic stay. Would highly recommend and would happily stay again.

Perfect break

Very pretty cottage and gardens, beautifully clean and comfortable - one of the best holiday homes we’ve stayed in. Nice area, quiet location but a good local shop, cafe and pub within walking distance and most of the island’s attractions easily accessible. Helpful information from the host.

Fun times on the Isle of Wight

This cottage was perfect for our get away, nicely located in a quiet village and fairly central to attractions, 40 mins max travel time. Cottage was clean and tidy, nice little touches such as games, tv & various chargers etc Felt like a home from home Checking in was easy as Phillipa had already sent the instructions weeks prior to our visit, check out was just as easy We would definitely use this cottage again if we returned to the island We had good weather, but phillipa has provided plenty to do in the cottage if bad weather. There is a pool table that becomes air hockey or table tennis, lots of other traditional games along with an x box (we didn’t use this so can’t comment on it but it’s there) We have nothing bad to say about the cottage, it’s as described and excellent value for money

Fantastic family stay

Fantastic cottage, had everything we needed for a family stay. The children (7 and 4) loved the games room and garden toys. There is also a playground in the village and pub and local shop - all a walk away from the cottage. We were nervous about not being on the busier side of the island but everything is a short drive away and Compton beach is a very short drive which has lovely sandy beach, fossil hunting and great for swimming. Would recommend!

Lovely cottage in beautiful quiet surroundings

Lovely place, great for kids who lives the play room (as did the grown-ups!) and the garden. Very quiet surroundings and especially the living room was super-comfy and I would love to enjoy it on a cold rainy winter night. Access to property was very easy and straightforward. Would recommend.

Delightful cottage!

We have stayed in many quirky and unusual properties on the island and were keen to stay in a thatched cottage in a pretty village. It didn’t disappoint! The cottage was absolutely beautiful inside and out and a lot more spacious than the photographs lead you to believe. The addition of a Games room was a particular highlight for our children who also enjoyed the selection of board games provided (some still new). We loved it because ‘screens’ were forgotten! The cottage was very well equipped with amazing attention to every detail and the communication before our arrival was very clear. The cottage was clean and always warm when we arrived back after a day out. The only criticism we could find (and this is really picky!) is that we couldn’t find any coffee pods on the island for the coffee machine provided! The village itself is beautiful with lots of thatched cottages, a well stocked village shop and a pub within walking distance. We really felt that the owners cared about their property and that guests were well provided for and enjoyed themselves. Attention to detail was second to none.

About the host

Hosted by Phillipa

Host profile image
Hi,
My name is Phillipa and I feel very lucky to be the owner of Moorlands Cottage, which I share with my husband Simon and son Toby. We divide our time between London and the Isle of Wight.

Why they chose this property

We loved Moorlands from the first moment we saw it. As soon as we walked through the back door we felt like we where home. Brightstone and the cottage couldn't be more different from our life in London and we are fortunate to be able to visit often and enjoy the peaceful and beautiful surroundings.
Being nature lovers we delight in exploring the garden to see what is growing and who is visiting, we have a resident red squirel, and robin as well as lots of other visiting birds, including the occasional visit from an owl.
The location of the cottage provides us with the fresh air, and open space that we find truley rejuvinating after 15 years in the hustle of London.

What makes this property unique

A warm and cosy retreat in the winter months. A relaxing and secluded get away within easy reach of exciting activies for thrill seakers in the summer
