This cozy single-level home features a king bed in the master suite, as well as a queen and two twins in the guest rooms. With the addition of the queen-sized sleeper sofa in the living room, this cottage comfortably sleeps eight. Pets are also welcome.

Whether you snuggle up by the gas log fireplace in the living room on a cold night or build a fire on the spacious back porch to take in the scenery, Hawk's Nest has all the comforts of home, including a modern kitchen. The cabin is also graciously appointed with an assortment of items for guest use, including four sets of golf clubs, pool floats, two fishing poles, tennis rackets, and a cornhole set.
Bear Lake Reserve:
Found in the Tuckasegee Valley, in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains is Bear Lake Reserve, a master-planned 2,100 acre, gated resort bordering Bear Creek Lake. Bear Lake Reserve guests have access to all the private amenities offered by the resort including 9-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course with a 40-mile panoramic view of the Smokies, Matchpoint Tennis, and 17 miles of maintained hiking and walking trails where you can spot waterfalls and mountain wildlife. The luxuriously appointed Lake Club offers guests access to the lakeside pools, waterslide, and hot tubs, private beach, gym and sauna, multiple lounges, onsite restaurant, and bar as well as a library and indoor theater. Guests of Bear Lake Reserve can also arrange equipment rentals, via the Lake Club, ranging from mountain bikes to pontoon boats. Effective May 1st, upon arrival at the Greeter's Cottage, all guests of Bear Lake Reserve will be responsible for paying a Resort Preservation Fee. This fee will be $30/day (with the maximum fee per stay being $150 or 5 days) and will be charged upon check in. The lack of Wi-Fi and the ridiculous, dangerous winding roads, made our stay impossible to enjoy. We were there for a wedding, absolutely terrible.

Mountain Retreat

This is our first time staying in Bear Lake Reserve. The house is less the 10 minutes in from the gate and another 10 minutes from the Amenity center. It was a quiet street with three other homes near-by. We typically stay nearer to Cashiers, but decided to branch out. Cashiers was a short 30 minute drive. Just a reminder…everything in the mountains is a 30 minute drive. House was in great shape and very clean. We had everything we needed and the property manager was very responsive with the few minor questions we had. Per the listing cell service is a little spotty, but we had Verizon and had some good service inside and in the front of the house. The amenity center was fantastic with the pools, small water slide, restaurant, and bar. We rented a Pontoon boat one day and floated on the lake for several hours. It was great to have everything contained within the development. There are a lot of hiking trails that are around the property. You will see signs for them as you drive around. We hiked a few of them and was a lot of fun. There is actually a trailhead within the development that will take you into the Nantahala National Forest. You could make it an all day adventure in there and make it back to the pool by sundown. Trail is found in AllTrails App. Also, make your way up to the golf course for lunch at the food truck (even if you aren’t playing) as the views outside were fantastic. House did come with a few sets of golf clubs, tennis rackets, and even pickleball.

We had a wonderful few days at Bear Lake Reserve! Cabin was wonderful and our family had a great time on the property. WiFi was very spotty (which we didn’t mind) but heads up in case you need it. Drive to lake club was about 10min.

Bear Lake is lovely and we had a nice time the house worked out well and is well appointed. There was a mix up about the daily resort fee which was not clearly explained by Bear Lake. 30/ day with a 150 cap. My bigger issue is with the way Vrbo advertises one fee but actually it is a lot more sometimes 40 or 50 per cent more. This is misleading because the choice you are making is on the advertised fee. I think Vrbo can do a better job as can the management companies that use Vrbo. The managers of this house are guilty of this misinformation scam as well.

Upscale Cabin in woods

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Hawks nest. The place was just as pictured and the furniture and beds were comfortable and we especially enjoyed having fires and roasting marshmallows in the fireplace on the deck. The community roads, while well maintaned and cut through beautiful wooded hillsides, were, as other reviewers mentioned, very curvy and steep, which made driving from the house to anywhere else beautiful, but enough to make someone who doesn’t get carsick a bit queasy. Our stay there would have been excellent with just a couple improvements. The kitchen and bathroom rugs were worn and old looking, and their was a lot of bird droppings at the front door. (It looked like perhaps a nest had been cleared away.) Also the gas fireplace in the living room did not work. The property is also close to a hydroelectric dam, and the water falling over the dam is a constant drone from the back porch. The noise wasn’t entirely unpleasant and not super loud, but if you are looking for the quiet and stillness of the woods, keep this in mind.

Our trip had to be switched around multiple times due to unforeseen factors, such as frozen pipes. Sundog always did an excellent job of communicating and working with us during these times. They were always prompt and understanding given the circumstances. The Hawk's Nest is a lovely property and provided an excellent location for us to celebrate the holiday season.

We had a great time during our Thanksgiving week stay with family and friends. We were 3 adults and 4 kids and the home was very spacious and comfortable. The home was clean and had everything we needed. Thank you for allowing us to use your home. It was very nice and we really enjoyed the back around the fireplace. Perfect

Great location well appointed comfortable, and spacious. However, if you are into watching tv or superfast internet not so great. We had so much fun, hiking going to the pool and a pontoon rental, did’t miss a thing!
