About this property
18th Century Streamside Cottage 10 min from the beach!
A streamside, spacious & cosy barn built c.1754 with the watermill across the courtyard, it sleeps 2-6 in 3 bedrooms, so is ideal for extended families/friends. A log burner, comfy sofas and armchairs for relaxing, and open plan to a modern dining kitchen with extendable dining table. Downstairs, a romantic double bedroom above the stream; a full-size bunk bed room with space for an extra bed; a shower-room and a further separate loo. Upstairs, a light twin room and a huge private bathroom.
Fall asleep to the sound of the stream, to owls hooting and, if you're very lucky, otters and kingfishers. The patio gate opens to a level lawn then a wooden bridge over a little waterfall and you're on the track through the wildflower and bluebell woods between the mill leat and the river. A lovely stroll to the log seat by the ruined wears and waterfalls. Peace!
Crownwheel Cottage is a favourite with groups of friends or family, as it offers spacious, well laid-out accommodation with room for everyone. There's plenty of space in the bunk bed room and the twin to add a z-bed or cot.
It's in the courtyard with level access, and a few steps from the shared lawns and stream where there's further seating. Enjoy private alfresco dining on your own secluded patio by the stream, with the woods around you - there's a bbq and outdoor furniture. Crownwheel Cottage is our cottage most suitable for people with limited mobility.
Downstairs are two bedrooms: a double with a deep slate window ledge that opens onto the river. And a large bedroom with full-sized bunks and plenty of room for a cot or extra single bed. There's a bathroom with a shower and toilet, as well as a separate loo. Upstairs is a light and spacious twin with its own huge bathroom.
Stocked with a good bookcase, including books for the kids and cookery books, there are games, cards and jigsaws so you can enjoy some fun by the fire.
You're welcome to enjoy the shared streamside lawns where there's further seating and a firepit. We're at the end of a typical Devon lane so there's no through traffic. Lovely walks on green lanes round our secret coastal valley.
Slapton and Strete are the closest villages, each with good pub and dining. Dartmouth is 20 minutes away. It's a 10 minute drive to the beach at Slapton Sands with lots of other beaches nearby and 40 minutes from Dartmoor. We're pet friendly.
The cottage and private garden has private off road parking.
and you'll have the whole cottage and garden to yourselves.
There are 6 acres of lawns, meadows, woodlands, orchard to explore and a shallow stream runs through the garden, great for paddling or damming. A perfect place for kids and dogs, and for anyone seeking to reconnect with nature.
We have 2 other cottages here at Watermill cottages which can be booked with this cottage. Please visit our other listings if friends or family would like to join you in Mill Cottage and Barleycorn Cottage.
We can accommodate up to 8 for an additional fee (£20 per person per night above 6) so do please get in touch if you need more beds. We include infants as a guest, so please book your all your little ones in as children to avoid additional fees later.
Dogs are £25 per dog per stay. Please keep dogs under close control around the cottage grounds as we have free-range poultry and there is livestock in the area.
We supply all the bed-linen but please bring your own towels. There are basic eco cleaning products in the cottage.
The perfect place for a digital detox as there is no 4G or TV, although we do have superfast broadband but of course you could switch this off if you want to have a real digital detox… The office has a landline for emergencies.
The lane that leads to us is a typical Devon lane - single track with high hedges - there are passing places. It is steep and winding and rather beautiful, like driving down a rabbit hole, one guest said! We have lots of people to stay and no special vehicles are required just calmness when driving here. Call us or email if you have any concerns or questions, we're happy to help.
