About this property

Quirky Luxury Barn Sleeps 8, Pet Friendly

The Old Granary has an eclectic vibe all of its own. Situated just outside Calne, opposite the Cherhill white horse & Calstone in Quemerford Gate, there is accommodation for 8 people in various different formats, as well as a beautiful garden to enjoy with a covered pergola seating 12 people and a BBQ area. The garden is secure and as dog owners ourselves we welcome well behaved dogs. A perfect place to relax and enjoy walking onto the Wiltshire downs straight from the front door.

Quemerford Gate is a small hamlet located in the centre of Wiltshire, a short drive from Avebury and Bowood House. Visitors have direct access by foot onto the Marlborough Downs and various walks up to the Cherhill White Horse.

The Granary is newly refurbished with a new kitchen and bathrooms, as well as decorating throughout. Please browse our photos to see more about each room.

Our accommodation is for 8 people and we can set up the sleeping arrangements in various ways to suit guests.

Sleeping accommodation is as follows (please also see the diagram in our listing pictures):

Master bedroom (the green room) with a 5 ft king size bed. This room also has a single sofa bed for a child and plenty of room for a travel cot. There is a shared family bathroom upstairs for this room and the second bedroom. The family bathroom includes a bath with overhead and hand shower.

Second bedroom (the blue room) is in two parts. There is a sleeping area with two 3ft twin beds. A further sleeping area with a standard 4ft 6 double. Please see the diagram where you will see there are two sleeping areas within the same room.

The landing has space for laundry and suitcases.

Small downstairs bedroom with ensuite shower room (the yellow room). This bedroom is located off the downstairs hallway and kitchen. It has a small 4ft double bed. The bed has surrounding cushions and so this room can be used as a sitting room. The ensuite shower room has a toilet, small sink and walk in power shower with body jets. This bathroom is used as the downstairs cloakroom.

Additional downstairs office / sitting room / bedroom (the grey room). This versatile room is at the front of the house in an extension with sliding doors. The room is painted a dark perse grey and has a large double sofa bed. There is a TV in this room as it also doubles up as a sitting room.

The large “granary room” has both a seating, TV area and dining area. This open plan room is decorated with antiquities and fun wall hangings, guitars and paintings so there is plenty to see! Leading off the granary is the downstairs office / sitting room / bedroom (the grey room) and the kitchen. There is a glass door out to the garden that forms the main entrance to the house.

The full kitchen has an induction hob, electric oven, combi microwave, Aga (lit only in the winter) as well as a new kitchen including an American fridge freezer, dishwasher, double sink, washing machine and sorting bin. There are plates and cutlery for children, indoor and outdoor dining and a multitude of cooking equipment. There is a Nespresso coffee machine and Ninja soup maker / blender.

The fully stocked garden has a pergola with seating for 8 very comfortably and 12 in total. The pretty garden can be viewed from the pergola and the sunken BBQ area is accessed right next to it. There are some water feature troughs and a further table and chairs on a patio outside the potting shed. The garden is secure for children and dogs, and the property is accessed via the garden gate.

There is parking in the drive for around 4 cars and security cameras at the front of the property.

Great house to stay, plenty of room

Great property, really welcoming and a really interesting collection of items around the house… the different designs of lamps were great ideas. Had everything we needed and more, comfortable surroundings, and a relaxing few days stay for us.

We had a long weekend with friends at the property, which is exactly as it looks in the photos. Nice rooms, big kitchen and a large living space with really cool decor. Lots of lovely walks nearby and a local town within 10 minutes drive so easy to get to. Highly recomend.

Impressive

What a fabulous stay! Family birthday celebration with ages 19-76 year old and all impressed with the accommodation. Quirky and eclectic mix that just works. The house has everything you could need for an over night stay to a long stay... and more! Enough room for all to come together or have your own space. COmmunication with Elly was 1st class with quick responses. We all felt at home and didn't want to leave! Highly recommended

Just what we wanted

We were in Wiltshire visiting family and touring round villages with a view to relocating. We really couldn’t have chosen a better base. The Granary was spacious, great for entertaining, quirky, lovely internal decoration (we enjoyed the guitars). Family came round with two small children who scampered around the colourful and well stocked garden. The property is conveniently located for Calne and wider Wiltshire. One thing that particularly impressed us was that it was very well stocked - bread, butter and jams on arrive, tea, coffee and sugar and much much more. Will definitely return with our rescue dog Jack. Thanks for the fantastic experience!

Stylish country cottage for family together

Our family stayed here for the summer solstice at Stonehenge and visiting nearby Avebury, Bath, Salisbury and Glastonbury and found it a special retreat for family bonding. We were able to cook up some lovely meals while watching the rest of the family play and relax in the garden. We enjoyed movie nights in the living room in front of the non-heating fireplace. There were enough rooms to spread out. We especially enjoyed the garden and how well maintained the lawn was so we could do family yoga and play games in the fresh air. Ella the host was super responsive and had soap and supplies overnighted as soon as we reported some were running low. She was also very open to feedback that some cleaning supplies and pantry items were outdated and needed to be replaced, etc. Although the property is decorated in a glam style it also has a lived in vibe so you feel you are visiting a friends cozy home. This is definitely a unique and special property!

Lovely property with some problems.

First impressions were good. Property is is a nice location and we loved the quirky decor. However, we struggled to warm the main living area and spent the trip huddled under blankets and occasionally in coats. The upstairs rooms were roasting hot, as was the downstairs bedroom and the provided heater warmed the second living area/bedroom sufficiently if put on a short while before we went to bed. The Aga was, I was told, switched on prior to our arrival but it never managed a temperature above vaguely warm, meaning we struggled to cook our Christmas lunch with the single oven and probably contributed to the heating problems in the main living area. Generally clean, but one bathroom’s toilet hadn’t been cleaned properly and there were a number of minor things which could have been cleaner. Overall we enjoyed our family Christmas trip but the heating issues did take the shine off.

Why they chose this property

The Granary has an eclectic vibe all of its own. Firstly to say, we are currently refurbishing the house with a new kitchen, bathroom, water system and decorating throughout. We are ahead of schedule and work will be complete well before our first guests arrive in May. There is accommodation for 8 people in various different formats, as well as a beautiful garden to enjoy with a covered pergola seating 12 people. Our garden is secure and as dog owners ourselves we welcome well behaved dogs.

What makes this property unique

Located near Marlborough, Avebury and Chippenham there is plenty to do locally including markets, walking, cycling and running. The local canals have fantastic walks, cafes and pubs. Bowood House and Gardens is nearby, there are golf courses, a spa, local swimming pools and a small motor museum. Slightly further a field you can visit Lacock, Stonehenge, Bath, Bradford on Avon, Cirencester, Cotswold Water Park and Longleat. There are artist open studios, cycling clubs and equestrian facilities, as well as canals and farmers markets.
