Santa Tecla in Old Town Tarragona
To reach Tarragona, we flew to Barcelona and then caught the train (approx 90 mins from the airport). We didn't find it necessary to hire a car.
If you want to be in the thick of life in the old town of Tarragona, the location of this property cannot be beaten. The cathedral and its square is a stone's throw away; the view of the cathedral and the street leading up to it from the apartment balcony is fantastic. The main old town squares, containing many bars, cafes and restaurants are all an easy walk away. It's such fun. Tarragona's fine city beach is a 15 minute walk away (downhill, which you will have to walk back up at the end of the day!).
The Roman remains of Tarragona are fascinating; we also took the trouble to get the bus out to the aqueduct - well worth the effort.
The Tarragonese were celebrating their city saint, Santa Tecla, during the second week of our stay (17/09 - 23/09). What a festival this is; processions, fireworks, drumming, pipe blowing and dancing. It's mad but brilliant. If this is the sort of vibrant city holiday you want you should certainly go - if you want a quiet time doing nothing then perhaps find another location.
Thank you Raul, we loved the apartment and the city.
