Rawtenstall is around a 15-minute drive and boasts cobbled streets, a thriving market and local independent businesses, including bars and restaurants. It has one of the best dry ski slopes in England and is also the northern point of the heritage East Lancs Railway. The mountain bike trails of Lee and Cragg Quarry can be picked up just outside Bacup, and the surrounding countryside including the nearby Rossendale Valley is popular with walkers and hikers.
Other local attractions include Healey Dell Nature Reserve, Townley Hall Park & Golf Course , The Whitaker Art Gallery, the ’Singing Ringing Tree’ and the ’Halo’, Burnley and Rossendale’s Panopticons and the National Trust’s Gawthorpe Hall. Finally, the city of Manchester is around a 40-minute drive or a 30-minute direct train from Walsden or Todmorden train stations and the popular Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge is within easy reach.
