Luxury Stone Built Cottages With Panoramic Views Across Berwickshire
Set in a prominent position in the Berwickshire countryside, only a mile and a half from the town of Duns. Our cottages have magnificent, uninterrupted panoramic views South to the Cheviot Hills and East to Berwick and beyond into Northumberland on the East Coast. Hardens Country Cottages are part of a pretty row of recently restored cottages with listed building status. They have been thoughtfully restored to retain original character but with the benefit of contemporary comforts. Both April and May cottages are suitable for a range of holidays due to the spacious layout and generous proportions of the rooms. This would make them ideal for families and group bookings. Of course they are also suitable for a cosy holiday for those who would like a relaxing break in front of a wood-burning stove. Good local shopping, pubs and restaurants are in the market town of Duns, 2 miles, and regular farmers markets in picturesque Kelso, 19 miles and Berwick 14 miles. Duns golf course is a 5-minute walk and there is good fishing nearby on Whittadder water or on the famous River Tweed. Shooting and stalking can be arranged. Hill walking in Lammermuirs or Cheviots, cycling on quiet roads. Visit St Abbs Head to see nesting sea birds in the spring, Coldingham for a lovely sandy beach or take a boat trip to Holy Island and the Farne Islands from Seahouses. Edinburgh is a scenic drive or 40 minutes by train from Berwick. Shop and pubs 2 miles. Both April and May cottages sleep 6 and the beds (zip-n-link) can be made up to suit allowing flexibility for your booking.

Beautiful cottage, spacious and warm, well maintained and well equipped. Lovely countryside setting. Owner was very friendly and helpful.
Be careful when booking as this property came up when i searched for a cottage with hot tub, there are two adjacent cottages, but only one has a hot tub.
Lovely cottage, with ample space and everything we needed. We were particularly impressed that there was a washing machine (including tablets) available. Great location for visiting lots of different areas including Edinburgh, Scottish Borders & Northumberland.
A clean and cosy house with everything we needed and much more. Cathy was a very friendly and helpful Lady. We'll stay here again during our next holidays in Scotland. We go back home relaxed.relaxed

Arrived at the property quite late and it was lovely to have a welcome pack of essentials. The property is immaculately kept and very well equipped. The owner has thought of everything to give us a comfortable stay. The beds were very comfortable. 2 of the 3 bathrooms with walk in showers which was great for us. Great view over the gardens over lovely countryside. Very peaceful. Couldn’t fault anything. Would recommend great location in the Scottish Borders.
Beautiful property and spectacular views, the photos on the web site don't begin to highlight how wonderful this place is. Spacious bedrooms, well-stocked kitchen and utility area, cosy living area with fireplace and lots of comfort. Incredible views and space. And just a short drive from Duns and so many other beautiful places to visit along the Borders within an easy drive. If you love countryside, peace, quiet, comfort, cleanliness and a warm welcome this is a perfect cottage to stay in. Thank you, Cathy, for having us!!!

Comfortable property
Overall the property was very comfortable and well appointed. However when I booked the property, it was clearly advertised with a hot tub (I have the screen shots showing hot tub against this property reference). When we arrived, no hot tub (it's in the next door property so not available). Conversation with the host suggested it was my fault for booking the wrong property and not understanding there were two properties, and I should have known as this was cheaper!! Nothing could really be done to resolve, hence two disappointed teenagers, no real attempt to resolve the issue in any way by the host. Broadband speed largely unusable for streaming movies. Location is not really or safely walkable to anywhere. On a positive note, very quiet with great views.
We recently stayed at May Cottage and it was just what we needed.
The cottage is lovely and much bigger than we anticipated, especially the bedrooms - they’re a really big!
Kitchen has everything you need and even though we had taken hand wash and washing up liquid etc, it was all provided. Even dishwasher tablets!
The views from the garden are exceptional and it was very quiet. We loved sitting watching the families of swallows flying in and out of their nests and listening their babies chirping away.
Cathy was the perfect host and made life very easy, with great communication from the off. She went out of her way to ensure we were well looked after at all times and was on hand should we have any questions.
Duns is a lovely little village and we enjoyed eating out in many of the dog friendly pubs in and around the area.
Thank you Cathy!
Wow what a fantastic place. The property was beautiful and the surroundings where so picturesque. Only problem was I thought we had booked the cottage with the hot tub so check when you're booking as that was in the cottage next door. However we will definately book again x
Spacious, well equipped cottage which had everything we needed for our long weekend stay with our dogs. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.
We had a lovely few days at the cottage and visiting local beaches. The weather was exceptional and the views from the back patio were stunning. The only slight annoyance was the lack of public footpaths near the property meant having to walk the dog on rural roads that were quite busy at harvest time. Also, the photos indicate a hot tub when only one of the properties has one. This should be made clearer but we had a lovely time nevertheless.
A wonderful week, in an excellent property with amazing views across to the Cheviots.
Dun's itself is a small town, but there is plenty to do within a short drive. We had trips to Kelso, Coldstream, Dunbar, Edinburgh Zoo and Coldingham Bay.
The golf course down the hill is friendly and very accommodating to visitors - be prepared for a strenuous round.
The surrounding area is also very good for road cycling.
We'll be back!
The property was very clean, with modern appliances and a beautiful view. My family of four adults and two children had plenty of room to move around and felt comfortable in the space.
If wanting to visit the Duns region, it is in an ideal location.
When booking pay attention to the policies. While known beforehand, we felt the 9 a.m. checkout (which is an hour earlier than the industry standard) was difficult since you were required to strip the beds and fold the sheets and take all the trash and recycling out.
In addition, we had an incident occur on our third day at the home. My elderly father was tired and decided to stay home while the rest of my group went out for the day. At some time in the afternoon, someone entered the premises. My father said when he saw the woman looking around the mudroom, he called out "May I help you?" and she ran out the door. By the time he went outside to look for her, she was gone.
Now, this was a connected cottage and we understand it might have been another tenant confusing her house with ours, or it might have been the cleaning crew getting their dates mixed up. Any number of simple reasons, but it made for an unsettled afternoon. My word of caution is if you are at the house alone to always lock the front door, even if you are planning on entering and leaving frequently.
We absolutely loved the cottage - all of us from grandparents to teen to child to dogs. Our host provided everything we needed, right down to small details like hand cream near the sink and some sweet treats on arrival. The views were stunning. If I had read the listing in full, I would have realized that the May cottage doesn't have a hot tub which was our only disappointment.
Everything was as we expected - and more. It is much more spacious than the photos show, the beds were super comfortable and everything you could need when cooking for 5 was there. Highly recommended.
From start to finish the booking system and communication with Cathy was very easy. She is friendly and very keen to make our stay most enjoyable.
No question was left unanswered and requests were instantly addressed.
The accommodation sleeps 6 with LOTS of space. Plenty of dishes/pots/cutlery and kitchen utensils. There was everything and more you could ask for.
The log fire was a bonus and made use of during most afternoons. The heating system is very effective of keeping everyone warm and cosy!
Bringing our dog along was a great the enclosed garden was perfect with a good height of fence all round.
Excellent property and would recommend. Easy to book and host was very quick to respond. Property spacious and lovely and clean and children were delighted with toys left out for them to play with. Welcome pack was appreciated too
We had a wonderful time and stay but was very disappointed and have challenged the excessive cleaning fee for not stripping beds and using the oven and grill. Please update me on the progress of this dispute. The cost of the cottage should include this cleaning as standard. It's a shame because the cottage and owner were welcoming but the charge was made without my knowledge and the owner has not responded to my requests to explain the charge. An update would be appreciated.
Fantastic location in a stunning property, everything you need for a short break, with great views and plenty to do on your doorstep. Could not recommend this enough.
