About this property

4 Bedroom 2BA Cabin on a Quiet Lake

Four bedroom cabin at West Crooked Lake Resort. Main level has large kitchen and living area with full bath, wood burning fireplace, and a sliding glass patio door with access to a wrap around deck. One bedroom and a large family area is located in the loft. The basement contains a family area with a 3/4 bath, and two bedrooms. Cabin has a sleeper sofa in the basement and in the loft. From the basement a sliding glass door leads to the patio area adjacent to the picnic grounds and beach.

The cabin has an extra large deck, picnic table, gas grill, lawn chairs, TV/DVD, A/C, and comes with a fully equipped kitchen that includes a microwave, stove, oven, coffee maker, and all the accompanying dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. We provide bed linens and towels. We supply toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, and hand soap. This is a non-smoking cabin. One dock slip is included with the cabin for the fishermen in the group. We have a pontoon and fishing boats to rent if you don't have your own but want to fish or tour beautiful West Crooked Lake. West Crooked Lake Resort, nestled along 400 feet of lakeshore, is a family-friendly resort located in the Paul Bunyan State Forest, surrounded by towering pines situated on the northeast shore of West Crooked Lake. Located in a quiet wooded area, the cabins sit on spacious grounds overlooking a secluded, beautiful lake. While our location is quiet and serene, we are only 15 miles NE of Park Rapids, MN and 15 miles SW of Walker, MN, where opportunities for shopping, dining, and recreation are plentiful. We provide activities on the resort for everyone. West Crooked Lake Resort offers relaxation and enjoyment for the entire family. You can enjoy sun bathing on the sandy beach, swimming in the clear water, playing on the Rave Water Park, or reading a book in the shade. Listen to the loons calling, watch eagles soar overhead, glide through the clear waters in a canoe or paddleboat, or just bring a book, relax, and catch some rays on the sandy beach. For the fishermen, West Crooked Lake hosts a large variety of fish including Walleye, Northern, Bass, Perch, Crappie and Sunfish. Many area attractions are just minutes from the resort. Biking/walking trails, golf courses, casinos, a fun park, a local winery (tours available), horseback riding, shopping and restaurants, and the Headwaters of the Mississippi in Itasca State Park are just a few of the attractions you will find.

Perfect for families

Very comfortable, we had everything we needed for 3 generations to enjoy their week. The playground and beach were right in front of the cabin. The kayaks, canoe and paddle boards got a lot of use. Boat rental available on site. Great area to explore.

Great location

The location and amenities were exactly what we were looking for, and more. The house was beautiful, clean, and well stocked with kitchen supplies, bedding, and linens. The only negative experience was with the property managers, not the owners. We requested to rent a speed boat with a tube attachment, and never heard back from the manager. The day we reserved a pontoon, we asked when we would be able to take the boat out and were told “we will bring you the keys” which never happened. We finally reached out to the property managers and were told the keys were in the boat. Had we been told that to begin with we wouldn’t have missed out on half a day of boating. I had worked out a late check out with the owner, due to needing to switch my reservation dates due to covid. The day of check out the property manager came and told us that “leaving at 2:00pm was not going to work for him.” Despite the unprofessionalism of the property managers, we did have a great time, and the owner was easy to work with.

Nevis

We loved everything except for the stairs. With a one year old always watching to make sure gates were closed. Steps were steep

Awesome cabin

My family and I just returned from a labor day weekend stay at the West Crooked Resort. This cabin accommodated us perfectly. Great layout, well-appointed kitchen, clean bedrooms and bathrooms, and in a great location. The location is close to Itasca State Park (~35 min drive to the east entrance), we were able to go hiking and see the headwaters of the Mississippi. We loved the use of the pontoon, paddleboards, and canoe. Thank you again! We had a lovely stay!

Family Vacation Tradition

Our family has been staying at West Crooked Lake Resort since 2011 for our summer family vacation. We love the personalized, family-oriented atmosphere that Susan and her family provide from the beautiful landscaping and clean, well-appointed cabins (our family has stayed in cabins #3 and #5 in the past and now stay in #2) to the fun activities for every age group. During our stays, we have had children of all ages from babies up to teenagers as well as multi-generational adults, and cabin #2 has always accommodated our needs whether by including thoughtful amenities such as baby gates, a cot in the closet with extra sheets and pillows, or a washer and dryer or by providing enough space in the three-level cabin that one can find a quiet corner to read or relax in amid a large family group. There's also the wonderful wrap-around deck and lower patio for enjoying as well. On the lake and outdoors, the older kids and adults love the paddleboat, the "Bongo" (water trampoline), kayaking and canoeing while the little ones enjoy paddling in the clear water near the shore, building endless sandcastles (with all the fun building tools provided), and playing on the playground. All of these activities are within view of each of the cabins. We really only leave the resort mid-week to head to Nevis or Park Rapids for additional provisions; otherwise, we are content to just enjoy the beautiful lake and our time together. We always look forward to hearing the first loon call and seeing the first bald eagle fly overhead. We're so happy that we found West Crooked Lake Resort. It's become a family tradition where we have made so many memories and look forward to making many more in the years to come.

We loved this cabin!

We had an amazing time here. We had a group of 6, but could have comfortably slept more. The cabin has everything you need and Deb was very helpful answering any questions we had. It was unseasonably warm (in the 80s) for our October weekend so we spent a lot of time hiking around outside and playing some croquet by the lake. Would definitely recommend and we are going again this year!

Wonderful Getaway!

Had a great time staying at West Crooked Lake Resort. Cabin was big and clean. Lake was amazing, some of the clearest water ever I have seen.

West Crooked Lake and the surrounding area is nature at its best. As you look around you will see tall pines, wild flowers, abundant wildlife and a home to a family of loons. West Crooked Lake Resort was originally known as Timberlost Resort & Campground and was owned by the Jerrold and Doris Skadberg family for over 25 years. The Skadberg family had been coming from North Dakota to the Park Rapids area for their family vacations for decades and they came to love the trees, lakes and wildlife. In 1979, they decided to purchase Timberlost and to make Minnesota their permanent home. Several of their nine children, including myself, Susan, were involved over the years in helping Jerrold and Doris operate the resort. In 2003, I purchased a portion of Timberlost Resort and established West Crooked Lake Resort and constructed a new cabin and remodeled existing cabins with a northern decor to welcome all. I became familiar with the resort business through the years of helping my family with Timberlost Resort and decided to continue the resort tradition that my parents had started. Prior to purchasing the resort, I was an owner of a software development company and still work for that company.

I enjoy getting away from my Dillon, CO residence to relax at our Up North resort with my two children, Nathan and Tomiko. We sold this resort in 2012 but now are back as owners and are very excited to get reacquainted with all of our prior guests.
