About this property

2 bedroom accommodation in Burythorpe near Malton with lovely countryside views.

The Mistal sleeps 4 is very well equipped and kept up to date. We are located 2 minutes drive from the village of Burythorpe. There is so much to see and do. York is just 30 minutes away, and Malton 10 minutes away, while the cliffs and beaches of the Yorkshire Coast are easily reached in 45 minutes. A favourite day out is to visit Castle Howard, with its magnificent house and gardens. The Yorkshire Wolds, now becoming famous through the paintings of David Hockney, are a delight, and are right on our doorstep! This is fantastic walking country, and a footpath runs right by the property, taking you to nearby Birdsall. Other paths lead into the Wolds for spectacular views. Equally, cycling here is a delight, with quiet lanes and routes to suit every level. In the fields around the property, you will hear skylarks sing, and see buzzards soar. Deer are frequently sighted. This is a truly unspoiled corner, and it is no surprise that many of our visitors return year after year to escape and unwind.

The property has its own garden area and also their is a large lawned area for ball games including croquet and for tennis fans, we have a full size grass tennis court available May - September. Ample car parking is available for residents. Electricity, Oil and logs are all included. To keep the property to the high standard of cleanliness it is strictly non-smoking/vaping and we do not allow pets. Bookings are from 4 pm on the Saturday of arrival until 10 am on the day of departure.

Beautiful

A glorious three-night stay at this gem of a cottage. Immaculately presented, the Mistral is one of the finest and best-appointed holiday homes we have ever stayed in. Its setting is delightful, as is the interior, beautifully traditional and authentically flawless. A true credit to Sarah and her commitment.

This property is located in a very quiet area but within short driving distance to many attractions. The welcome goodies provided were very much appreciated and we also really enjoyed the log burner each evening.Sarah is a lovely, friendly host and we would not hesitate to stay there again.

Comfortable house in a quiet neighbourhood

The house has everything a holiday home needs. There was nothing we were missing. Check in, check out, the stay, everything was perfect. The landlady is very friendly and also provided us with an app that gave us all the information about the holiday home and the surrounding area on our smartphone. That was very useful. We really enjoyed it.

Fantastic!

This is a jewel of a property to stay in, lovely and peaceful location with everything within to such a high standard. Although we had only a few days to stay, the welcome pack was an unexpected bonus, as was the plentiful supply of logs etc to allow us to enjoy a real fire as the evenings got colder. We could not have asked for anything more, and would recommend this property to anyone without hesitation!

Home comforts in a beautiful setting, good location

Very comfortable and attractive cottage with private garden looking over tennis court and fields of barley. Very well equipped. Lovely conservatory looking out on garden and bird feeder. We loved watching the variety of birds and a very greedy squirrel. We also saw hares and deer. Sarah was the ideal host, popped over to say hello and was quick to help when we couldn’t lock the door (our fault!). You will need a car as this is a rural property, but it’s a great location for excursions to York, Whitby and other coastal towns. Also close to Castle Howard (Brideshead!) . Malton is about 10 min drive, and has lots of independent shops and restaurants, as well as a large Morrisons and a small Asda.

Lovely stay

Perfect place for staying to visit the local area including the moors and York. The cottage is perfect for a young family with plenty of space and the added bonus of a washing machine. A couple of things that would make it even better would be an Alexa or similar to play music on and more plates and glasses as there was almost too much kitchen equipment but not enough of the basics but these are really minor points and we have already rebooked for next year x

A great introduction to this part of Yorkshire

We loved the cottage and its location enabled us to explore part of England that was new to us. Sarah was extremely helpful and the tips from previous occupants were very useful in planning our visits. We have booked again for next year.

Beautiful Yorkshire Cottage Stay

When I found this property by searching online. I thought ‘Wow’...this stands out....the price, the quality, the location. Originally I was looking for somewhere on the coast...but this place was so attractive. On arrival through the narrow country lanes (scary at first!). On approach to the property it was as it’s pictures, beautiful, idyllic, as I had hoped it would be...(sometimes pictures are misleading)....but in this case, no....the pictures could not portray the feeling of ‘Wow’ as we approached and entered the ‘Mistal’ cottage. It was so roomy, so well decorated, it looked as a Yorkshire let should be...depicting the area. Clean, well equipped, the Wi-Fi was better than most I’ve experienced....worked very well. There were masses of books and board games, information on the area, everything you could possibly want. Although in the country (we are City folk) it was secure and above all a perfectly relaxing environment to unwind, relax, and de-stress. My son was happy....recliner sofa, good Wi-Fi.... We were left to our own devices, parking was great (directly outside the front door).....we were always aware and assured that should any problem arise we would only have to walk 50yds to the main house to get sorted....but you didn’t even really notice that the main house was there. Access to Yorkshire areas was easy....Malton 10 mins drive away.....with a big Morrison’s for shopping, or Lidl... All in all I cannot recommend this place enough, it is a ‘Gem’. A true representation and example of Yorkshire, the kindness and niceness of its people, and the very typical representation of what England is pictured as. We will definitely be going back.......fantastic place, fantastic area, lovely people...I could go on and on. To sum it up, Perfect.

I didn’t want to leave!

The Mistal is a wonderful property, beautifully decorated and with all modern conveniences. For an old cowshed it is surprisingly spacious with a huge kitchen and roomy conservatory, where we spent most evenings looking out at the stunning view and admiring the sunset. Sarah is an attentive and friendly host and was quick to take action and keep in communication when the whole area was effected by a power cut one evening. Was sad to have to leave and will definitely be planning a return trip.

Early Easter Stay

Cottage was clean and very well equipped. Enjoyed the treats left for us upon arrival. Made good use of the log burner although the whole cottage is always warm and cosy. Well positioned for access to York, Scarborough and Malton. The local pub ( Bayhorse ) does excellent food on Sunday for lunch and steak night on Tuesday but would advise booking. Overall a terrific place to stay in beautiful countryside and plentiful days out.

The Mistal was just what we needed for our holiday the location was great and Sarah was v helpful

The property was great for a family of 4, it was very clean and tidy and everything was in good working order, even at the start of spring the gardens were beautiful and the views great. Sarah was a great host, friendly and helpful, she very quick to answer queries and even had time for a chat when I was out walking. The location is great for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds , York and further away.

Bigger and much more spacious than we had thought.

Absolutely loved the peace and quiet. loved the fact that we were just left totally to our own devices, no hassle from anyone, although any or all information was left inside the cottage for us. would highly recommend... loved the place...

Mistal is a lovely, comfortable rural cottage from which to enjoy the Moors, York and hill villages.

We loved the rural situation, being able to watch hares, squirrels and birds from the kitchen window, and yet so accessible to York, the Hambleton Hills and the Moors themselves. Sarah was helpful and welcoming, providing a generous welcome pack of goodies. Mistal is very spacious and the conservatory would be delightful in warmer weather or as play space for young children. The second bedroom is small and more suitable for children. As a cottage for a couple it was ideal. Access roads are a little tricky at first but worth the effort.Thank you Sarah! Beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting.

We had a very relaxing week here in this beautifully appointed cottage with all the comforts of home. The owners had warned that the WiFi service was limited. but this was not the case. I believe that this has been recently upgraded and we were able to surf, communicate with the family, watch Netflix and use Google Earth to plan our days out. The local pub, The Bay Horse, was charming and served fantastic food. If you want to "get away from it all" this is the place to do it. Colin Dean
