Grounds with garden furniture (shared with other properties on-site). Bike store. Private parking for 1 car. No smoking. Please note: There is an unfenced loch in the grounds, 100 yards away.. Lochmaddy is a port village and the CalMac arrives here from Uig on the Isle of Skye, it is a fabulous sail across the Minch separating the Inner and Outer Hebrides. The Studio is small, but very well formed and perfect for a couple on a tour of the Islands. Entering the property you have a small dining room/conservatory which is fantastic for views of the sunset. This room leads into the open-plan kitchen/living room which has good space for two people and wooden floors. It’s a great place to rest and recuperate after long days out on Hebridean adventures. There is a Swiss-style sleeping platform on the mezzanine level, which has alternate tread stairs making it unsuitable for those a little unsure of their footing. The shower room is snug but well appointed. North Uist is your home island staying at The Studio and it is known as the ’drowned landscape’ because it is covered by peat bogs and lochans. It is a magical setting with white beaches on the west coast which are just as outstanding as those in Harris.
As with Lewis and the other Outer Hebrides islands there are several prehistoric sites across North Uist, including the huge chambered burial cairn of Barpa Langais. The walking and cycling is outstanding in the Western Isles. Many ancient routes have been joined together to form the Hebridean Way which is both a walking and cycling trail that traverses the length of the islands. It is very well signposted and well worth following to get a taste of the islands. The bus network works well with the trail so you can walk one way and easily get a lift back. Due to its unusual landscape there are many species not found easily elsewhere. Otters and many types of rare bird species, including the corncrake can be seen and also the largest colony of grey seals in Europe. Marine mammals like dolphins, porpoises and whales cruising just off the coast can be seen whilst crossing the Minch. The Studio is the perfect base to explore this fascinating part of the world. Beach 7 miles. Shop 50 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
