FRIENDLY ADVICE: Some friendly advice on booking in New Orleans. The City has made it illegal to own properties for the sole purpose of renting out to guests. This means all Airbnbs are either part time, a private apartment, or part of a family’s home. If you’ve been looking and wondering “what’s up with that entrance, layout, etc?” That’s what you’re witnessing. Here are some other tips to make your exploring and finding the right place for your stay a bit easier:

- View the outside AND inside photos of accommodations you plan book to avoid any surprises when you arrive. Look in our photo gallery and/or use your map program of choice to view the neighborhood and outside views of the home.
- Inquire (or look in the listing for) a license number. Ours is 17STR-06648. All properties are required by the City of New Orleans (and Airbnb) to be registered and licensed. There are plenty of phonies out there, so beware!
- Many properties use enhanced or inaccurate photos to make their property look nicer or cleaner than it really is. We are proud to accurately represent our property in our photos. Look at our reviews that refer to our home being "nicer" or "better" than shown in the photos.
- Architecturally speaking, our home is a renovated, double shotgun. The house layout is such that this apartment is fully private (separate entrance) you'll enter through your own, well lit, camera secured front door. We’ll be next door and as available or scarce as you’d like.

Guest access

Your space is 100% your own during your stay.

Other things to note

Furballs welcome. We are dog-friendly. So long as they're behaved and friendly too.

Why is this location so great for you and your best friend(s)?
- extra bowls and snacks in case you forget anything
- 1 block from an enclosed dog run
- 5-minute walk from an amazing dog shop/doggy daycare for all your pups needs
- 10-minute walk from the entrance to dog-friendly Crescent Park which includes a lovely walking or jogging path along the Mississippi.
- an off-leash dog run at one end and the French Quarter at the other
- we can tell you a few dog-friendly bars/cafes to hit up too

Great place!

We loved the location of this beautiful Bywater suite. It had everything we needed for a long weekend in NOLA. We found the neighborhood to be very walkable with many great little restaurants, shops, art and bars. We were able to park right outside the residence and found other spots to park if it were needed. Everyone was friendly and by far our favorite neighborhood to stay in. We would definitely stay again!

Quaint home

The owners were detailed and super helpful the whole stay. The location has such cute NOLA decor. There was great space as well. For us, the bed was quite small and not the most comfortable. We didn’t realize the owners were next store which isn’t a problem but we felt a little uncomfortable with them so close. That was just personal preference. They are a pet friendly location, and have a sweet set up for the dogs. Not being a dog owner the smell was apparent but it wasn’t horrible. It is near a train track that passes often so it did keep us up a lot of the night. We ended up staying in a hotel the last two nights. We ran into the owners outside the house and they were extremely kind.

Friendly place to crash for a long NOLA weekend

This space is cozy and efficient. We really appreciated to nice decor touches and the bathtub. The bed was comfortable. There IS street noise- but you're in New Orleans, so consider bringing ear plugs and a sleep mask if you're sensitive to light while sleeping. Our hosts were welcoming and gave us plenty of space. Their dogs and our dog exchanged some occasional woofs through the door, but everyone stayed pretty chill.

Cute House in a Great Location!

This is such a cute place! It's got New Orleans charm and is a typical shotgun style except that the bedrooms are private. Elisa even has the guest bedroom decorated to make you feel like you're in a sugar cane plantation home! If you're looking for good ole fashioned southern hospitality in a place that's walkable to everything worth seeing, I highly recommend this place!

Pinterest Vacation Brought to Life

Elisa’s home is neat, accessible, and absolutely delightful. She welcomed us with a bottle of wine, offered a few suggestions on local cuisine, and then left us to enjoy her home. The home was unbelievably comfortable, I’m going to have to go our and buy a new mattress after discovering how comfortable a bed can be during our stay. And to be honest, if we weren’t surrounded by the best food and entertainment in the world my ass never would have parted ways with that couch. Her picturesque home is situated neatly in the heart of the Marigny, one of New Orleans most eclectic neighborhoods. It is surrounded by dozens of unforgettable restaurants, coffee shops. After a particularly rambunctious evening out in the French Quarter (20 minute walk) we stumbled into an adorable cafe, specializing in french/crole dishes. There was even spontaneous breakfast pianist performance! The location was perfect for wandering around and discovering new neighborhoods, and in perfect proximity to any major tourist stops you’d like to check out! While also being comfortable and convenient, Elisa’s home is a work of art. Everything from the bedposts to the couches makes is so thoughtfully curated that you instantly fade into the “Nawlins” lifestyle. Seriously. Stay here. And get ALL of Elisa’s restaurant recommendations, girl knows what she is talking about!

About the host

Host profile image
The Marigny, established in the early 19th century, was the second expansion of the then, Nouvelle Orleans, following only the Treme. The land was sought after because of its high ground, close proximity to the bustle of downtown, and closer proximity to the river. Creole cottages styled in the simple but popular shotgun, townhouse, and lavish center hall style seemed to go up overnight.

Just over 200 years later, a young woman named Elisa Cool would fling open the shutters to a Creole cottage of her own and dub it Maison du Madison after her beloved companion a miniature Goldendoodle named Madison.

Shortly after moving in, her best friends started traveling down to New Orleans to pay their regards. She set up a guest suite and let the good times roll. Everyone had such a good time that a few even evolved their trips into annual or even twice annual pilgrimages.

Elisa loved the company and truly enjoyed sharing the city that had won her heart with the people who had won her friendship years before. She got up the courage and got online in hopes of expanding her network of “friends” and offering the guest suite up as a place to land for tired travelers who shared her love of New Orleans.

Several visitors, and one new boyfriend called Matt, later it was time to upgrade. The couple spent weeks reframing the footprint of the suite with added doors, sashes, and even a new front stoop so that their guests could enjoy New Orleans on their own terms. They were sure to include the things they appreciated in their own travels and that included places that appreciated Madison as much as they did. And, the Magnolia Guest Suite was born.

Today Maison du Madison hosts many guests and Elisa & Matt (now married) remain available to concierge, at the ready with tips and tricks to help their guests & their pets appreciate New Orleans at its best... whatever their definition of best may be.
