About this property

Beaufort House - Grosmont, Monmouthshire

The peaceful country lanes that weave along the Herefordshire and Monmouthshire border lead you to the medieval village of Grosmont, tucked between the spectacular beauty of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley. Grosmont Castle, one of the Three Castles of Gwent built by the Normans, lies just behind the main street, and in the heart of the village, you will find Beaufort Farmhouse.

Grade II listed and beautifully restored, Beaufort Farmhouse is a spacious and elegant house. Period features herald your arrival and welcome you into somewhere rather special. Warm wooden floors flow throughout the ground floor, leading to a delightful sitting room with a vast inglenook fireplace, gorgeous kitchen/dining space, a games room with a snooker table, and a delightful children’s playroom complete with a dressing up box, toys, games and a wall-mounted TV for rainy afternoon films and sessions on the PlayStation. Two original, curved staircases take you to the upper floors where the fabulous bedrooms lie in wait. The King Charles room boasts a rolltop slipper bath in the bedroom, whilst the Nell Gwyn room has a seductive four-poster with its namesake adorning the headboard. A single bedroom leads from the Nell Gwyn room. The Spire room overlooks the peaceful churchyard, and last but not least the superb Loft Suite encompasses the whole top floor and includes a sitting area and divine Jacuzzi copper Bateau bath.

Outside you’ll find lovely gardens, a BBQ and a firepit. Enjoy outside dining on the tiered terrace, which is beautifully lit by night, and soak in the views of the church. There is on-street parking for 4 cars.

Ground Floor

Kitchen/Diner:
Timeless flagstone floors are the perfect foil for the white walls and original beams that feature throughout. Behind the pale cream cupboards lies everything practical needed for a self-catering stay including two dishwashers, a large fridge-freezer, a fabulous AGA (an additional charge applies to use it) for budding chefs, along with a double oven and a gas hob. The central island is a wonderful place to perch with a glass of something chilled and bubbly whilst the culinary creators in your party whip up something delicious. The dining table can seat 11 and is an elegant space that lends itself perfectly to lazy brunches and social evening meals that linger long into the evening.

Sitting Room:
Filled with character, this cosy room boasts original beams, polished wooden floors underfoot and is a place to retreat to when the weather is wild. The impressive inglenook fireplace dominates the proceedings, put a match to the grate and curl up in front of the flames on one of the plump sofas with that book you’ve been meaning to read. This is a room for conversation and relaxing, but should you want it you’ll also find a Smart TV placed unobtrusively in the corner.

Games Room:
Bound to be a hit with your guests, the games room features a full-size table which can be used for both pool and snooker. There’s a wall-mounted Smart TV with Sky Sports and a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings. James Bond will be keeping a watchful eye on proceedings from the quirky blinds.

Playroom:
There are stairs to the basement area where you'll find the playroom which has a single day bed. Designed with your younger visitors in mind, this thoughtful room comes equipped with a dressing-up box, toys and games, a wall-mounted TV and a PlayStation for hours of entertainment.

Boot Room:
This useful space is perfect for drying off wet dogs after countryside walks and storing wet weather gear.

Superb location and a lovely home full of character

We were very lucky to have glorious sunny weather. The house is extremely well equipped and very comfortable. Our hostess, Fiona, was welcoming and obviously keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We enjoyed BBQs in the delightful courtyard garden, which has some beautiful shrubs and some quirky statues. During the day, we discovered some stunning scenery on our walks, with visits to castles and the ruins of an impressive abbey. Evenings were spent in the cosy sitting room playing board games beside a log burning fire. It was a perfect week creating some very happy memories.

A perfect place for a family celebration

We loved this house so much - it provided us with the perfect venue to have our family gathering to celebrate my husband's 70th and it was an addd bonus that I got to have all children around me on Mother’s Day. We were blessed with perfect weather so were able to spend time in your lovely garden; we managed to relax around the fire a couple of evenings but your lovely kitchen provided the perfect place for us to cook up a feast every night. The house is in such a beautiful spot with amazing views and I loved having the church in our garden. Having such a great pub so close was great too …….. but the castle !!! Wow!!! We couldn’t keep away!!! Our grandsons loved playing tig and hide and seek up there with us all! I haven’t even mentioned the luxury of the bedrooms and bathrooms. My husband and I were in the loft - what a treat! The house is so well furnished with beautiful pictures, antiques books etc etc. I always love having fresh flowers too!

A beautiful stay

We had a beautiful stay at Beaufort Farm House recently as a surprise 60th birthday celebration for my mum. We were a group of 8 with two children. It was a truly stunning property in a breath-taking setting. So peaceful and tranquil. From the magnificent views, to the quirky stairs and rooms, the house was simply amazing and we couldn't fault any aspect of our stay. Whilst we did have a slight miscommunication at the beginning (very minor) this was brilliantly resolved by the owner, Fiona. We had great contact and nothing was too much trouble from our first communications, during our stay and afterwards. The house is very old and has so much character and is beautifully decorated. The old spiral stairs, beautiful fireplace and pool table made the house that extra special! Our mum had an incredible time for her birthday at Beaufort. We will certainly be back to create more family memories.
