The space
Built in the 1980s, Beachcomber House is a classic but quirky example of that decade’s design style. The space feels generous and flows well, making it perfect for family groups of up to 12 and we welcome dogs. Ideal for family holidays and celebrations.
Revamped for its launch in summer 2023, we’ve retained and enhanced the 1980s ‘feel’. Using splashes of bold colour and pattern, and retaining some marvelously kitsch design features, we’ve created a comfortable modernised home with a ‘nod to the 80s’.
Our communal spaces are for families to be together (or not):
- The games room is a new addition with something for everyone, from play for the little ones, to a separate bar area for grown-ups. It really helps to make family holidays entertaining, whatever the weather!
- The living room is set up to be used as two ‘halves’, one facing towards our marvellously kitsch mock stone fireplace and one towards the TV, but guests are welcome to move the furniture around the 70” TV for a cinematic experience. Alternatively, if there’s no one around, you could borrow a book from the library and curl up quietly to read.
- The conservatory is one of the few communal areas not designed for 12 people with 4 comfy chairs looking on to our lovely garden.
- The breakfast room provides an informal dining area for a quick bite or for more formal dining, the dining room seats 12 - great for celebrations.
- The dining room has been designed as multi-function space - there are 3 tables that can be placed together for dining or used separately as desk space. There is fast wi-fi throughout the house.
Our gardens are informal. The back garden has a large lawn and pretty flower beds, perfect for lounging in the sun, having a BBQ or playing games. The front garden has a meadow lawn and a large in/out drive for multiple cars. We have a pay-as-you-go electric car charging point.
Our bedrooms have been designed as great places to relax and get a good night’s sleep with blackout blinds or curtains, comfortable beds, sumptuous headboards and 400 t/c linen. The family bathroom or ‘blue bathroom’ has a large double ended bath, perfect for a relaxing soak, and walk in shower. There’s another shower room on the first floor and one on the ground floor.

About the host
Hosted by Helen Colegate

We're Helen and Dean, we live in Kent and love the Kent seaside especially Broadstairs. We have our day jobs but wanted to get involved in the local tourist and hospitality industry.
Why they chose this property
Broadstairs is the jewel in the crown of the Kent seaside resorts. It has seven beaches which all have their various characteristics. Viking Bay is the one in the heart of Broadstairs town and is the jaw dropping, picture postcard beach with all the usual seaside attractions.
Beachcomber House is 10 minutes walk from the centre of Broadstairs and just 2 minutes walk from Dumpton Gap beach. Dumpton Gap is quieter and feels like a hidden gem. It has it's own beach cafe and because it is covered at high tide, dogs are welcome all year round. Outside of high tide you are able to walk to the other Broadstairs beaches as well as a lovely 20 min walk to Ramsgate.

What makes this property unique
We chose Beachcomber house because we wanted somewhere suitable where family/friendship groups of up to 12 can enjoy a spacious place for a holiday or celebration. We've been told that Beachcomber House is perfect for large groups to enjoy eachothers company but also have lots of places where you can spend quiet time.
The most popular room in the house is the Games Room / Bar. There's something here to keep all age groups well entertained!
