One of the best locations in Downderry above the beach with views of the sweeping Cornish coastline and set against the backdrop of a Cornish Coastal village. Turn left or right out of the front door and you are literally on the coastal path! A South facing house commanding a stunning 180 degree panorama across the shimmering coastal waters of Whitsand and Looe Bay.
I have made a short video to give you an accurate impression of just how good the location is. If you search on YouTube for 'welcome to Penrose Downderry Cornwall....' you should be able to view a 40 second video.
This property was originally built in the early 1920s by returning war veterans. Penrose was designed for convalescing war veterans seeking a quiet resting place built above the beach. It is now a holiday home arranged on one floor and retaining much of its original charm and character.
This cosy property, which has undergone extensive internal refurbishment and redecoration, is equipped to the highest standard and is designed to be charming, comfortable, practical and relaxing.
Penrose has been sympathetically restored and is well proportioned with great views, of the Sea it is ideally suited for quiet breaks and hectic family holidays alike.
With 2 bedrooms, a lovely light airy open plan sitting room with fantastic views, and a great sized kitchen/dining room, Penrose will happily accommodate gatherings of up to 4 people yet is equally suited to a quiet weekend away for two.
Whether you’re after a cosy evening in for two, relaxing in the sitting room next to the wood burner, or a laid back night chatting with friends over a Gin and Tonic on the front terrace overlooking the beach, Penrose is perfectly suited to both summer or winter breaks. With the coastal path right on your doorstep, and Looe ten minutes drive away Penrose is ideally placed.
For a self-catering holiday house by the sea, you can’t get any closer to the beach!
If you are familiar with the BBC 'Beyond Paradise' programme then you will recognise it is all shot within this area.

Other things to note
With a beach house feel Penrose is freshly decorated with new / painted flooring and pleasant furnishings. It is an old quirrky bungalow with a few steps up to the house. The balcony/deck and views are the main feature of the property. The property has beach house charm and ambiance. 180 degree unobscured panoramic views out to sea. Very good quality beds and bed linen all set up for a great stay. Very well equipped including wifi a Nespresso coffee machine and new outside Wicker furniture to enjoy the position.
We will consider one dog by agreement only. If you have a dog please message before you book.
We respectfully ask you to please ensure that you have paid £200 damage deposit into our bank account one week before your stay this will be returned a couple of days after your stay. We have not been required to deduct anything from this deposit from our guests to date but it is required to cover any potential damage loss breakages or additional cleaning. We are very happy to discuss this over the phone, If you are not comfortable with this please do not book.
We do not recommend this house if you have toddlers/very young children due to the steps and balcony. There is a single track road in-front of the house. (Please see photos). This is the road into Downderry from Seaton. Please see location map photo.
We do not provide firewood for the wood burner this can be purchased very reasonably from Looe, Saltash and the surrounding area.
There are steps (12 in total) up to the property so if you are unable to manage steps please do not book.
Please note that there is some building work going on next door at road level this does not affect your view or enjoyment of Penrose however you may hear builders next door. They are building a garage at road level (not the same level as the house). Some weeks the builders are there some weeks not - its an on off project next door so if you feel uncomfortable with possible building work going on next door please don't book. We have had several guests staying when builders have been there and they have not had any issues but I feel it is better to be transparent about these matters to avoid any disappointment.
