About this property
The Old School House, with 8 person hot tub.
Listing description
Welcome to The Old School House.
Ideally situated in Newton Stewart, a small market town on the banks of the River Cree, The Old School House is a listed building that's brimming with history. This spacious, four-bedroom holiday home now features sumptuous furnishings and an 8-person hot tub overlooking the gardens. The house can accommodate up to eight adults comfortably, and is a firm favourite with hill walkers and mountain bikers because of its proximity to Galloway Forest Park.
Your Property
Built in circa. 1900, The Old School House was once the residence of a respected school Headmaster, who was also a Treasurer for the church, and registered the town's births and deaths from the front lounge. Today, this beautiful property has retained its original features whilst being lovingly restored.
Upon entering the house, guests are welcomed into an impressive hallway with a sweeping staircase, and plenty of space for coats, wellies and walking boots. On the ground floor, there's a cosy living room featuring Sky TV and sumptuous sofas for up to eight people to sink into. The lounge has two large windows, meaning it's flooded with natural light, and guests can relax whilst watching the world go by.
Across the hall is the stylishly decorated dining room, featuring a large dining table, perfect for dinner parties and celebrations, a piano and a beautiful fireplace. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped with all of the amenities a large family or group of friends would need to create a culinary masterpiece, including an AGA range cooker. The kitchen leads through to the utility room and WC, and guests can access the back garden (and of course, the hot tub), from the utility room, also.
Outside, there's a terrace featuring a luxurious, eight-person hot tub, ideal for post-adventure soaks - and as the sun goes down, the hot tub is illuminated by festoon lights for added magic. When the sun is shining, the garden is the place to be, and is well set up for alfresco dining with comfortable outdoor seating amidst the large, manicured lawn. Bringing your bike?
The Old School House has lockable bike storage and even a bike wash area.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms, two king size (one of which features a stunning four-poster bed with sheer curtains for added luxury), one double and twin, making The Old School House a popular choice with large families and groups of friends who are reuniting. There's a family bathroom and freshly laundered bed linens and towels are provided. Other details to note
The Old School House is ideally located in Newton Stewart, a small market town on the banks of the River Cree, surrounded by the Galloway hills. Our beloved town is renowned for being the adventure seekers' paradise, and a firm favourite with hill walkers and mountain bikers because of its proximity to Galloway Forest Park. Newton Stewart and the surrounding areas boast a wealth of wildlife, such as red and roe deer in the forest and hills, while wild goats navigate the rocky slopes.
For those who enjoy a spot of retail therapy on their getaway, Newton Stewart's supermarkets, local shops and boutiques are just a five-minute walk away, as are the independent coffee shops, cocktail bars, pubs and even a small cinema. Please have a look at The Old School House guidebook for plenty of recommendations on places to visit and things to do during your stay in the Dumfries and Galloway region.

About the host
Hosted by Elizabeth Bennett

The old school house is the old headmaster house and I was lucky enough to call home. I love being a host and aim to provide a quality accommodation for families and friends for a perfect relaxing holiday. The area invites itself to cycling, walking, history lovers and those who enjoy fishing, wildlife and the outdoors adventures like wild swimming and other outdoor pursuits.
