About this property

Henry's Fork Waterfront - Camp Targhee

Welcome to "Camp Targhee" a beautiful, small log cabin built in 1923 and updated throughout the years. This much loved cabin sits on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River and includes a dock. You don’t have to go anywhere! You can walk right out the porch door and go fly fishing or enjoy water fun right at this rental property! You will also very often see wildlife such as moose and bald eagle right in front of the cabin! This cabin is in a highly coveted location and sits in a truly special setting -- on a private road with only 14 cabins with the overall area surrounded by natural forest and open space. The other side of the river is free of homes or development and is the location of the historic and private Flat Rock Club (private fly fishing club) with miles and miles of pristine and natural riverfront and only a few log buildings down the river. As a result the environment is very peaceful and serene and is a stark contrast to the cabins up the river and closer to Mack's Inn where the water is crowded with day floaters. It is quite typical to see moose and bald eagle on the river as you are sitting on the dock or enjoying the beauty from the screened riverfront porch. This cabin is perfect for those who want to enjoy Island Park or tour Yellowstone as it is about 20 miles from West Yellowstone and the gate to the park. A perfect trip would include time exploring Yellowstone and time fishing and playing on the river. There are also miles of trails for hiking, biking, running and walking. All this only 20 miles from the West Entrance to Yellowstone!

The cabin includes the following:

* One bedroom with a queen bed,
* One bath with a shower,
* A twin bed with a trundle bed in the main room. The trundle can be pulled out and left at a level lower than the bed or it can be heightened to become an additional twin bed or placed next to the twin to make a king bed,
* A twin bed on the screened sleeping porch with mesh screen windows rather than glass and a gorgeous view of the river which allows one to sleep in a protected environment while listening to the river and nature sounds all night,
* Well outfitted and stocked kitchen with a convection oven, stove, 11 cu foot refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, blender and all utensils, serving and cooking tools you will need.
* Weekly trash pick up service on Wednesday Mornings.
* WiFi Service (Fiber Optic).
*Please note that the boats/paddleboard are shown for illustrative purposes only and are not included. You can bring your own or rent them for your use just a block up the river.

This cabin will appeal to those who want to enjoy an old fashioned relaxed lifestyle in the way that many loved Island Park before it was "discovered". The evenings are perfect for outdoor BBQs on the patio and time around the outdoor firepit. This cabin will NOT appeal to those who are looking for a modern home complete with TVs, etc as it is meant to be a respite from modern stress, gadgets and information overload. We purposefully do not have these electronics in the cabin to encourage everyone to unplug, relax, get outside and enjoy the outstanding beauty of the area and the many activities available right out the door. We do have WiFi so people can improve the cell service, work remotely, log on to their Netflix account, text etc. The cabin is downriver from the Mack's Inn area and is within walking distance to a riverfront restaurant and a gas station/convenience store. The cabin is about 20 feet from the bank of the Henry's Fork of the Snake River and you can float and canoe right off the dock of the cabin.

There are so many things to do in the area. One big draw is Yellowstone and this cabin is a great place to come back to after a day of touring the Park. It is so wonderful to decompress after a long day of sightseeing by playing in the water, fishing for smaller trout off the dock or enjoying the beauty and sounds from the screened riverfront porch prior to making dinner on the BBQ which overlooks the river. You can also enjoy more local sights such as Big Springs, Box Canyon and hiking Coffee Pot Rapids. You can canoe to Coffee Pot campground from the cabin. Local sights such as Harriman Ranch can be enjoyed via hike or on horseback with one of their guides. Harriman is also great for fishing. Mesa Falls is gorgeous and a must see. Lakes such as Hebgen Lake, Henry's Lake and the nearby Island Park Reservoir are great for swimming, fishing, jet skiing, boating and waterskiing or wakeboarding. There are numerous places to rent boats and jet skis in the area and they will deliver them to the boat launch and pick them up when you are done. Golf is just up the road at the Island Park Village Resort where they also have tennis courts and an indoor pool.

Families, couples and small groups have all loved their time at this cabin. It is perfect if you want to truly live the "cabin" lifestyle. Having said this if you prefer a place with a TV, air conditioning (we do have fans though), a Washer/dryer and dishwasher this place would not be your best choice. Cell service can be spotty but works very well via WiFi calling. While the cabin has a great kitchen it does not Include a dishwasher but we have always enjoyed the camaraderie of doing them together by hand. There are laundry facilities right up the street that are easily accessed when needed as the cabin does not have a washer or dryer.

This cabin is a stand alone single family residence. The lot is 130 feet wide along the river allowing for plenty of riverfront to enjoy and play! The firepit and dock provide a ton of entertainment and fun and are solely for the use of this cabin allowing for fun family times!

This cabin is not a great choice for ATV enthusiasts who want to bring their own ATVs as there is no parking or turnaround for ATV trailers. If you want to rent them for the day and ride the many miles of trails in the general area there are many shops that have them available for rent. As there is no place to park them at the cabin we request that they not come in as they will overcrowd the cabin parking and disrupt the neighborhood.

Once your reservation has been accepted the rental agreement and additional information and addendums must be signed and returned to the owner within 48 hours of receipt by the person(s) renting the cabin (including copies of a Driver's License for each adult member of the party).

Pretty cabin

The river front cabin is a sweet throwback to a fish camp. Very tastefully decorated and all the necessities you need. The twin beds are not the most comfortable for an adult but would be just fine for kids. Great informational book in the cabin tells you everything you need to know about the area and the cabin. The host was very responsive to texts and has worked hard to ensure you have everything you need.

Loved our stay!!!

This was my husband’s retirement trip. We loved our stay! We stayed Sunday through Saturday. We went to Yellowstone 3 of the days. Be prepared for traffic jams there. We were not. We had a 30 hour drive home to PA, so we decided Friday to get our Idaho fishing license. We went to Henry’s Lake for the afternoon. We went 2 nights into The town of West Yellowstone for dinner and souvenirs. We loved sitting on the dock and around the fire. We saw a variety of weather this week. We had snow, rain and sun. We had temperatures as low as the upper 20s to highs in the 70s. We loved seeing the pelicans in the river. We thought they only lived at the ocean. The cabin had everything we needed. Laurie was always in touch and even did a mid week check in. We would rent this cabin again and recommend it to others.

MAGICAL VINTAGE CABIN

Empty nesters stayed for 3 nights in late September. Temperatures were pretty cool by then, but that's what we were hoping for! Hubby practiced fly fishing in Henry's Fork while I watched from the dock. The age and architecture of the old cabin was magical. Owner has compiled a fabulous 3-ring binder FULL of brochures and information about the history of the cabin, surrounding activities, restaurant menus, etc... Kitchen is equipped with everything you could want. We ended up driving to West Yellowstone (25 min) to buy groceries because there wasn't a great local selection. Owner was delightful! We didn't want to leave!

very special place

we stayed 6 nights as we explored Yellowstone. the properties location is amazing, on the Snake River. The log cabin is quite beautiful and owner has thought of so many things that make staying in space that was originally small. When we travel we are often frustrated by owners not considering that guests needs places to put their things. Laurie has used hooks everywhere you might need to hang clothes or towels and left cupboard space for our food as well as having plenty of supplies like coffee, tea, oil, bottled water, etc. The place has so much character and sitting by the river was heavenly. We had a little trouble with finding because the street sign for Targee Road is missing. We don't have GPS so may not be a problem for most. Would definitely stay again First morning we awoke to two pelicans sleeping in the river right in front of the cabin windows. There was a flock of them downriver. Appreciated the huckleberry chocolate gift, many thanks

30th Anniversary trip

My husband and I were in yellowstone celebrating our 30th anniversary and we stayed at this adorable little cabin for 4 nights. Talk about little cabin in the woods- it was perfect. So peaceful sitting on the dock look at Henry's Fork. The cabin had everything we needed. We highly recommend this cabin. 20 minutes from yellowstone. The only issue there was and is not the cabin owners fault is the road to get to the cabin needs some work.

Cute little cabin in the woods on the river. I’d recommend arriving before dark to get your bearings. The cabin had everything we needed. The owner was very responsive so don’t hesitate to double check. We fished three days with trout hunter guide Jon Lewis highly recommend, spent two days in yellowstone on park guided tours and one day paddle boarding down the big springs. Our neighbors fly fished in waders in front of cabin and caught small fish. Happy Kayakers were also seen floating by. We loved the screen porch and spent our evenings there. The shower was hot. Wi-fi fast. Very fun week in Idaho with the cabin as home base.

very charming cabin

This is a very storybook looking cabin. Expect rustic though. Window screens dont fit well and mosquitos did get in , and there were many while we were there. the screen porch was very sealed and they did not get in there. It was hot, and it was difficult to get ventilation into the bedroom, so we slept hot every night there. There late July. Although charming, the shower curtain was moldy, and the area rugs were quite dirty in the bathroom. I dropped something on one, and the paper towel I cleaned it up with came up very brown with dirt. It's a cabin , I get it, but place no rugs, or washable rugs for the bathroom at that price. The bed has metal springs, and every time you roll over you here all the metal sounds from the springs. Not sure how other guests don't mention this. It was very noticeable.

A Touch of Magic

We had an amazing stay! The cabin was quaint and cozy, with a tranquil screened in porch with a swing for peaceful reflection and rejuvenation. The first night we were there, we got to experience the most beautiful spectacle. As evening progressed into nightfall, hundreds of pelicans soared above us, landing 200’ up river and then in unison swam towards us in a line herding fish into shallow banks of Henry’s Fork, at which time they furiously dipped their heads into the water and scooped up fish. It was absolutely spectacular to watch! More than that, just hearing and watching them take flight out of the water was something I’ll never forget. Needless to say, we had the most remarkable time and plan on coming back again and again. So happy that Laurie has chosen to share this little bit of heaven with us. Honestly, you couldn’t go wrong with this cabin…quaint, cozy and in the perfect location.

Family Vacation

The cabin and the river suited our family perfect. Our girls (ages 4 and 9) loved playing in the River by the dock. The flow of the river was slow enough, and the depth shallow enough, that I never worried about them having issues. This cabin is located close enough to Yellowstone to go for day trips to the park yet have peace and quiet at night. Laurie was a great communicator throughout the process and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. She loves her home and the area, and is a great resource for activities for all ages. If we were to visit Island Park again we would definitely rent this cabin again.

About the host

Hosted by Laurie Deaton

Host profile image
Laurie has been coming to Island Park her entire life....her grandparents owned a cabin up the river and she has spent every summer of her life enjoying that cabin with friends and family.

Why they chose this property

Waterfront, close to the park, beautiful views, moose and other wildlife right out the window on a daily basis. This place is a true gem for those who really want to kick back.

What makes this property unique

This cabin is a fun way to really get into the spirit of the Old West and the Yellowstone area. It is hand made from lodge pole pine and is similar to many of the old structures that have been torn down in the area. It is also similar to old ranger buildings and structures in Yellowstone National Park. This cabin provides a more authentic experience than a new cabin/house or a hotel room.
