About this property
The Roost - a bird's eye view of the countryside
The Roost is a recently-built self-contained loft with secure garage underneath, bordering pasture farmland. This peaceful small hamlet is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with no street lighting and stunning views across the Culm Valley. There are country walks from your door, with pubs nearby. Dogs are welcome, but remembering that sheep and cows need to live in peace in the field right next door.
The space
The Roost is accessed via curved garden steps which lead to a stable door. The main room is spacious, light and airy with comfy sofa, dining table and you have fast wifi. Guests enjoy breakfast at the large balcony window open to the morning sunshine and looking straight onto the neighbouring fields.
The contemporary and stylish kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, microwave, dishwasher and a fridge with small freezer compartment.
The bathroom has a large walk-in power shower with twin heads. The roomy bedroom has fitted wardrobes and you can let the countryside flood in through your windows.
To preserve the beautiful natural environment around us, we use ecological products as much as possible, avoid single-use plastic and reduce or recycle where we can. Much of your power is provided by solar panels on your roof.
Outside, you have a private balcony and deck that is just perfect for sundowners or a shady alfresco lunch, enjoying the views across the valley.
We start you off with a pint of local milk, teas, coffee and cereals; let us know if you would prefer non-dairy milk.
Underneath the loft is a secure garage space with washer, dryer and sink exclusively for your use, and a hose for muddy dogs!
Guest access
Outside the self-contained loft, you have a sunset patio, secure garage and parking space.

About the host
Hosted by Chris

When we are not sailing, Karen and Chris love walking, gardening and looking after our home. Being a host allows us to welcome people from all round the world and to share our quiet countryside.
Why they chose this property
We have lived in the beautiful Culm Valley for most of our lives and converted our home from a derelict barn. We love the Devon sense of community to our little hamlet, our village, our valley and our county.
What makes this property unique
The Roost is self-contained, but we are next door to help you when you need us. We think it is our duty to be friendly to our environment, so we have solar panels and never use plastic wipes or packaging. Our shampoo and soaps are ethically sourced and refilled to minimise packaging waste. As with most of Devon, we have measures to allow you to recycle or compost virtually all your waste.
