About this property
Quirky Fisherman’s Cottage in Whitstable
Enjoy a stay in this old fisherman’s cottage in the heart of the seaside town of Whitstable. The cottage is literally a stone's throw from boutique shops, independent cafes and renowned restaurants. It's located within a 3-minute walk from the historic harbour and shingle beach.
After exploring Whitstable or a long day at the beach—shut the door on the bustling town and unwind in the peaceful, tranquil environment this cottage offers. Get cosy with the log-burner or relax on the outdoor sofas.
—The Space:
The accommodation is suitable for up to 4 guests.
Downstairs features a lounge with wood-burning stove, comfortable sofa and quirky vintage cinema chairs. The rear of the property has a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, toaster and microwave. There is a separate dining room with an antique table and charming chapel chairs. A glazed door leads to the garden. The stylish and contemporary bathroom includes spacious walk-in shower.
Upstairs comprises of two double bedrooms. Both bedrooms ooze character with their Victorian fireplaces, exposed floorboards and original storage cupboards.
Please note that this is a fisherman's cottage dating back to the 1860s and as is typical with these properties, the stairs are very steep. A handrail has been provided from the ground floor to the first floor and caution should be taken on the stairs. Young children should be supervised and assisted on the stairs.
—The Location:
The property is located in central Whitstable. Whilst there is plenty to see and do in Whitstable alone, it is also a great location to explore East Kent from. Canterbury and Margate are a 20 and 30 minute drive away respectively. There is the historic market town of Faversham and seaside town of Herne Bay nearby. The Roman fort of Reculver is 20 minutes in the car.
Whitstable is also an excellent place for cycling. The Saxon Shore Way cycle path will take you all the way along the coast to Margate. Or you can take the scenic Crab and Winkle cycle path, a disused railway line of what was the first regular passenger railway line in the world, to Canterbury. There is a local bike hire shop just 100 yards away (please note it is closed during the Winter season).
Boat trips operate from the Harbour to the WWII sea defence Maunsell Forts, once home to pirate radio stations of the 1960s. Or you can visit a local seal colony.
We have maps and leaflets for local attractions available for your use in the cottage.
