About this property

Chocolate box cottage in 8 acres of pasturland on Jurassic coatline of Dorset

Far from the madding crowd, set down its own private leafy driveway nestled in 8 acres of fields and woodland. Total peace can be found at the old cottage which dates back to the early Victorian age and is full of charm and character. It has an open fire, oil-fired central heating, and has a warm home-from-home feel. The cottage has a King size bed, toilet & washbasin upstairs. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge, and freezer. A table and chairs overlooking the fields for breakfast, or a private garden with a fire pit and sun loungers to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, but still close to all amenities. Just the place to unwind.

The cottage is completely self contained with plenty of parking. Weekly rentals or short breaks in the winter.

Dogs are allowed, (2 maximum) but owners' rules must be followed as there is livestock on the land. A fee of £10 per dog per night. Owners must be responsible for picking up and disposing of bag into the bin at the top of the drive. No dogs are to be left in the cottage on their own at any time, and not allowed on furniture or upstairs.

The fresh smell of the sea and the waves crashing on the beach (when the wind is in the right direction) add to the atmosphere of this unique little gem.
The cottage is cool in summer and warm and cosy in the winter. A log burner is available (September-April) Central heating on a timer during winter months.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped and tea towels, oven gloves, washing up liquid. Complementary milk in the fridge for that much-wanted cup of tea on arrival.
I am more than happy to put food supplies away in the fridge/freezer if a home delivery is requested.
I supply 1 toilet roll in both the bathroom and upstairs toilet.
The bedroom has low eaves, but a very comfortable king-size bed with fresh linen and a duvet provided. The windows in the roof allow you to stargaze, and have black-out blinds if so required.
I am very happy to suggest places of interest or good pubs/restaurants in the area.
If privacy is required this is the place for you.

Peace and quiet
The little cottage was great. We had been on the road for a while before staying here and it was just the break we needed. Away from other busy places but also convenient for exploring the Jurassic Coast.

Weekend getaway
We had a lovely stay, Hillary the owner was lovely, she checked in on us to check we had everything we needed, she was absolutely great, suggested places to eat etc. The cottage was perfect for the two of us, it is in a quiet spot but not to far away from local amenities. We ventured over to Luthworth Cove and Durdle door. A lovely cottage in a lovely part of the world.

A Great Summer Holiday
Our stay at the Groom’s Cottage in Langton Herring was absolutely marvellous. The surrounding is beautiful, great opportunities for walks with the dog, plenty of things to do and to see in Dorset, very nice pubs and restaurants close by. Unfortunately the local pub in Langton Herring went out of business, but we managed. Our host Hilary was very kind and helpful but never intrusive. Very commendable indeeed!!

Lovely property in a very nice, quiet location. Good access to the coastal road. The place may be too small for some as it has low head clearances upstairs and in the bathroom

SW Coast Path pefect location
Even better than its description, the cottage is delightful. Great host Hilary takes immense pride in offering a share of the Dorset dream. Location is fabulous for walkers and plenty to do and see in close proximity....its a haven of tranquility, with all the charm of the love and effort that goes into making a special holiday.

Perfect location
We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. We enjoyed walking from the property, particularly the walk down to the Fleet from the village. There are also a great many places to visit within in short drive. We found everything we needed provided in the property and Hilary made us very welcome. It is in a quiet, tucked away location and the cottage retains many of the original features with sensitively added modern conveniences. I would highly recommend a stay at Groom's Cottage if you want a perfect getaway.

Grooms Cottage
A beautifully decorated cottage with all mod cons yet retaining an ‘olde world’ charm conveniently located for exploration of the Jurassic coast, short walks to nearby Chesil beach and the Fleet lagoon, and a ‘stone’s throw’ from a pub serving excellent food.

A nice relaxing 5 day stay in a characterful cottage
This ticked all the boxes for us - a compete break from busy, noisy London in the peace and quiet of the Dorset hills. We slept well in the upstairs bedroom - but mind your head if you’re tall as the eves are quite low level. Highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived until we left , we were awestruck by the cottage and the beautiful location it is situated in . If you are looking for a relaxing , peaceful time away , this is a superb location . Hilary was wonderful and friendly , ensuring we had all we needed . The cottage was divine and was equipped with all we required for a relaxing few days . The surrounding area is stunning . A walk into village led us to the public pathway and to the coast . Words don’t do justice to how beautiful the area is . 10/10 … a must stay .

Relaxing retreat
Lovely tranquil cottage built for two. The only sound was the birds and the horses. Hillary the host was in the next cottage but unobtrusive, we saw her when we got there and as we were packing up to leave. She was very friendly and stopped for a chat then she didn't bother us until we left. Fabulous peaceful weekend

Enjoyed our stay but watch your head
Lovely lovely cottage and definitely recommend so long as you aren’t nearly 6ft or over. Low beam between lounge and kitchen (husband hit head ) and couldn’t stand up in shower, however I had a lovely shower and at 5ft was fine standing and showering. Hillary made us very welcome and our two dogs really enjoyed themselves.

Secluded location. Perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Bed was comfortable. There was a bathtub under the eaves but no shower.. no towels or washcloths provided but owner supplied them upon request. Other than a blanket on the bed no throw blanket for the couch. Good value for the cost.

Stunning cottage
We were visiting the area for a wedding and Grooms Cottage was recommended. The cottage is gorgeous and superbly equipped. Hilary was a fantastic host. Bit off the beaten track - so do follow the directions from Hilary .. I was following the Sat Nav and went too far! Cottage does not have a shower (one hand held one over the bath) so factor this in if needed and small staircase to bedroom is narrow. Thank you Hilary for a lovely weekend :)

Lean comfortable and cosy.A lot of instructions. Hard to get cases to bedroom via stairgate on narrow stairs.Only 3 plates for 2 people so couldn't use dishwasher. Hilary lovely but would have liked a private space to sit and enjoy the sunset outside.

I live in the cottage opposite with my dogs Molly and Fern. I am here if you need help or advice or can give you complete privacy.
I have 2 x racehorses at livery in the stable yard, and guests can watch them grazing in their paddocks.

Why they chose this property

Grooms is small and cosy, the perfect place to unwind from the everyday stresses and strains. Couples love to return after spending their honeymoons here. Many guests say they have never been in such a quiet location, and often oversleep. Your dogs (max.2) pref small are allowed at an extra cost of £10 per dog per day. Contact owner for more details. A pet owner's do's and don'ts list in the cottage and must be strictly adhered to. Any damage done by your pet must be paid for, or the damage deposit will be withheld.
The location of the property is unique, and guests love to see all the wildlife and the total peace that this cottage has to offer. Please pay for your dogs ON ARRIVAL.
My guest books tell the story of how much these holidays have been enjoyed over the past years that this has been a holiday property.
I hope you will come and enjoy it for yourself.

What makes this property unique

Situated down its own private driveway, with plenty of parking. Comfortable chairs outside the cottage to enjoy a glass of wine before walking up the drive to the local pub - the Elm Tree. Excellent fresh food cooked to order. Well known for its local fish and locally sourced produce.
The cottage is situated in its own little microclimate and benefits from being in the folds of the valley where it is very sheltered.
The horses graze in front of the Lounge window, and the birds and wildlife are in abundance.
