About this property

Enjoy Winter 2025 in Vacationland-Dog Friendly!!

Welcome to our Bridgton Bungalow Cottage at The Denmark Stage Stop House!
Our cottage is a studio style cottage with 1 Queen Bed and couch that coverts to 2 twin beds allowing for no more than 4 people. Our cottage is similar to hotel room in that there is no kitchen but unlike a hotel we provide ample appliances allowing you to cook full meals for everyone in your party. We provide a gas grille with a side burner on your private deck, which has outdoor seating. Inside you have a full size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (both auto drip and French Press), griddle, toaster oven, blender and an over the top Shark Foodi, which is just like an Instant Pot only better. If you are not familiar with Instant Pot's they allow you to slow cook, bake, sear, air fry, pressure cooker and more. The cottage is fully equipped with plenty of dishware, glassware, utensils, etc.

The Bungalow Cottage has a large bathroom that just underwent a remodel where we added cabinets, a very large sind and a granite countertop but for those of you already familiar with us we kept that antique clawfoot tub everyone loves so much!
Beyond the private deck you have a yard all to yourselves for relaxing and play with a comfy tufted hammock. This is a stand alone cottage with parking directly adjacent to your cottage. We have heat for the summer months and yes, we have air conditioning for your comfort on those hot summer days.

The Denmark Stage Stop House, which includes this cottage, is located on a 7 acre equestrian estate where we may have some visiting horses for summer as we no longer have our own. The grounds consist of 7 acres of fields and pastures which you may access to take a stroll by yourself, with your traveling companion(s) including your four legged best friend and family member. We are dog friendly!!! We hope to have our yard fenced this summer for your dog, provided we can find someone to do the job. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

While we are definitely DOG FRIENDLY we have one very strict rule that we expect everyone to respect. NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON FURNITURE OR BEDDING - EVER!! Please realize we have other travelers that visit that have sensitivities and allergies to dog hair and their dander so we have to be considerate to all. All dogs must be leashed when outside and on the property.

While Covid is not the threat it once was, we realize it is still very much a concern and we have continued our Covid cleaning practices to protect our guests and our staff. You can be assured every surface is cleaned and sanitized properly to kill the Covid virus along with any other bacteria and viruses.

We also take our guests' safety very seriously too, therefore there is a smoke and carbon monoxide detectors along with a gas detector. Please note none of these are to be deactivated or have the battery removed at any time unless you have created an alert for cooking and after silencing the alarm(s) please replace. Sometimes in the cottage the alarm will sound due to steam from the bathroom from showers, etc.

We have great WiFi, strong enough for those working remotely. We are also open to those wanting longer stays allowing them to work and vacation simultaneously. We have had many past guests that did just that and had no problems with an online meetings or work requirements. I worked remotely from here for 4 years with no issues with the exception of the rare outage by our provider Spectrum, which we have no control over.

We offer very comfortable bedding and your beds will be made up with very high quality bed linens upon your arrival, so if you arrive late you can jump right into bed to get a full nights sleep before you start your busy day the next morning feeling rested and ready for adventure and fun. We also offer plenty of high quality towels but do suggest you bring your own beach towels as our towels should not leave the property and are not suitable for beach fun.

Our cottage offers many unexpected extras for our guests' comfort such as heated toilet seat, heated towel rack, Fire TV that works with Alexa. Alexa is provided as well with Unlimited Amazon Music and Sirius XM on the higher quality speakers and even a speaker that you may take outside on the deck or yard with you. If you don't like Alexa no problem – just unplug her. Our newest extra is a Robot Vacuum named “Dustin” so keeping the floors free of sand and whatever gets tracked in couldn’t be easier - just ask “Dustin” to do his job.

Please feel free to ask us any questions anytime and if you are interested in a longer term stay up to 3 months – let's talk.

We are surrounded by so many things as we are located in Maine's Lake Region. There are numerous lakes and ponds, hiking trails, Shawnee Peak Ski and Snowboard Resort is only 5.4 miles away.

For Travel Nurses and Traveling Healthcare workers coming to the area we are only 6 miles from the Bridgton Hospital with many other area hospitals within driving distance. Traveling Healthcare workers can see more on Furnish Finder and others.

Great spot!

The perfect quiet space to stay if you’re looking to come to this part of Maine! An hour away from Portland and a great spot to get to a lot of hiking and outdoor activities. The space was clean with lots of accommodations and great communication from the host.

Quaint little cottage

This bungalow is stocked with any kitchen gadget or small appliance you could ever need. Towels and bedding are top notch. Most impressive are the gardens and surrounding flora. There is very little room for storage, but you won't need to bring much. Deborah, the property manager, is easily accessible and eager to make your stay pleasurable. Thank you!

Amazing amenities

This place was packed to the gills with such luxurious amenities! We kept being surprised by awesome details, like, a heated towel rack, umbrellas, a heated toilet seat, dog bowls, ... The only negative was that the property was advertised as part of a farm, with horses and apple trees. However, the property itself was separate from the farm, with no access. It was right on a road, but did have a lovely outdoor space with a small yard and deck, again, with all the awesome amenities you'd want outside. We just thought we'd have more room to roam. Thanks for a great stay :)

Everything but the kitchen sink

Remote location. We drove twice to Sebago State Park beach, which was beautiful. They do have every kind of kitchen gadget; we just used the coffee brewer and microwave. It's a bit tough to rinse/clean everything in the little bathroom sink. I brought paper plates, and they also had some there, a must. You can rinse and leave plates, glasses, utensils, and cups outside in a basket, which Deborah will pick up, run through the dishwasher, and return. The property sits just off a busy intersection. Part of the road was closed when we were there, so it was maybe less noisy than it could be, but we still heard trucks and loud mufflers at night. As construction skewed our GPS directions, Deborah kindly guided us, and waited in the driveway to make sure we found our way in. The price was good, and being pet friendly was also good. Be prepared to drive several miles to anywhere. The Hannaford's grocery store in Bridgton was great, and there's some decent restaurants there and in Naples.

Too much clutter

Way to much "stuff" in cabin. Kitchen items that were completely unnecessary and had obviously been unused for a very long time, (dusty) also impractical to use as no counter space. Expiration date on some food. Only enough hot water for one good shower. There were two of us. Instructions and reminders all over the place as well as post it notes, these need to go in a House Binder and left where binder can be seen. The beds were comfortable and loved the flowers and outside arbor.

Bungalow stay

The bungalow was everything as it was advertised. We loved the location as it allowed us to be close to family and explore a different section of the great state of Maine. The bed was super comfy, fell into each night and quickly went to sleep. Had we spent more time in the bungalow we would’ve prepared a few meals, but we didn’t. We had plenty of things to get us started from Deborah and it was great to have the option! If I would change anything it would only be a slightly wider shower curtain surround, loved the claw foot tub, but felt the tightness of space as the curtain was close. Everything worked well, so no complaints about anything!! The extra heated items would be very nice in the winter, so we can just imagine those benefits. Would certainly recommend to anyone to stay at the bungalow.

Beautiful cute place to stay in a gorgeous part of Maine!

Very cute bungalow with all the amenities of a swanky hotel. DL did a great job decorating it and making sure we were as comfortable as possible during our stay! She was very quick to respond to messages, and when I forgot my purse at the bungalow, she mailed it express to me very quickly. I highly recommend staying here!

About the host

Hosted by DL Mahan

Host profile image
Originally from Massachusetts. I have always loved Maine, no matter what season. We always had a vacation home in Bridgton Maine. When I returned from Florida, I choose to find a home in Maine for myself, my horses and dogs. I grew up skiing Shawnee Peak AKA Pleasant Mountain. I am only 2.5 hours from Boston, MA when I need a little bit of city life.

I found a home that was over 200+ years with pastures and a barn. After 10 years of remodeling, including actually moving the house back further into the fields, I think I am almost done. We have blended old and new and I am quite pleased with the end result. The Bungalow Cottage stands where the original part of my home used to be located until 2010.

We opened our house up to guests in 2013 and have loved every second of it. Never dreamed we would get so busy so fast. From June till about the first week of November we are just about solidly booked and love every second of it, meeting so many great people from the all over the world.

As a professional Home Energy Auditor since 2004, making this old and new home energy efficient was our first priority and we definitely succeeded there.

Being an animal owner and lover "forever" it was important to me that guests had a place to bring their dog and now our guests may bring their horse along as well. We are very pet friendly (dogs, horses only).

We have many guests stay with us in the past years while on a home buying journey in Maine's Lakes Region, so to that end I have activated my Associate Broker real estate license in Maine after having held an active real estate license in Mass since 2004. If you are actively seeking to purchase a home, whether it is a vacation property, investment property, retirement home or your forever home, let's talk real estate while you are here! Not only can you rest your head head at The Denmark Stage Stop House at the end of a day of house hunting, but I would be happy to assist you in finding that fits your needs and dreams.

Why they chose this property

Denmark Stage Stop House, equestrian estate cradled between Mt Washington Valley & Bridgton Maine. Perfect location for winter sports - Shawnee Peak Ski and Snowboard Resort is 5.4 miles away. Surrounded by Maine towns Bridgton, Fryeburg, Sebago, Naples & Brownfield, Maine. New this year bring your horse – additional fees apply (spring/summer/fall only). Whether you like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and more - we are in the heart of it. Accommodations for visiting Bridgton Academy parents.

We believe you don’t have to “rough it” to experience the true “Maine Experience” and our accommodations are constantly updated and designed realizing that after a full day of activities in Maine, they deserve comfort and a little bit of luxury when they return after a long day of fun! We offer comfortable bedding and bed linens to give you the nights rest our guests deserve. We offer many little extras that you won’t find elsewhere, because our guests deserve it and it is what makes our guests return year after year and season after season. To this end we provide air conditioning in all rooms except bathrooms. Don’t be fooled by other accommodations that tell you “you don’t need air conditioning in Maine.”, because you do - it gets very hot in Maine with temperatures often in the high 80’s & 90’s during Maine summers.

If you want to be truly treated as a guest, we do that here at the Denmark Stage Stop House and always will!!

What makes this property unique

Alexa is your in-room concierge! She will even tell your in room Robot Vacuum to clean.

5.4 miles to Shawnee Peak Ski and Snowboarding Resort
15 minutes from the Saco River for a great canoeing, kayaking or tubing experience.
Only about 25 minutes from North Conway and all those outlet stores including LL Bean and more for you shopping enthusiasts.

The Denmark Stage Stop House number one goal is the comfort of our guests. We offer some of amenities you find in your favorite hotels but with the privacy of your own space. After a busy day of swimming, canoeing, hiking during the summer and fall months or skiing or snowboarding during Maine’s winter months come home to comfortable beds with their freshly laundered and pressed sheets and pillowcases. From late fall throughout our chilly, snowy winters our beds have heated mattress pads and blankets to keep you warm and cozy throughout the night. We also found some guests need a little "white noise" to get a restful sleep and to that end we have made white noise machines available to our guests.

If you are a travel nurse our accommodations are available for longer term stays from fall through spring, so whether you are a traveling nurse, traveling physician or other healthcare professional looking for temporary housing we have accommodations to suit your needs.

Bridgton Academy parent's year after year have chosen The Denmark Stage Stop House as a comfortable place to call home while their children are attending Bridgton Academy. We offer year-round rentals, making us available for you to attend all of your child's home games, whether is hockey, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, football, etc all the way up to including their graduation from Bridgton Academy.

Central Heat in winter - even a heated toilet seat, which funny enough is a favorite of many of our guests.
Heated mattress pads and blankets
A/C in all rooms in summer
Instant Pot to easily prepare full meals all in one pot and all at the same time.
