About this property
Breezy Vista on the Terrace - West Coast, St. James, Barbados.
Congratulations & Welcome.
You are well on your way to our little place in paradise ...
'Breezy Vista on the Terrace', is a cool self-contained modern with a traditional-vibe, apartment, with spectacular views of the West Coast of Barbados in the distance, and in an immediate setting of nature, over-looking a forest of trees, wildlife including birds and the occasional troop of monkeys, and is enclosed with mosquito nets all round. It has a fully equipped kitchen dinner that seats four people, a living and patio space with a BBQ grill, and gardens beyond. There is one bedroom with a large queen size bed, air con, and a bathroom consisting of a rainfall-shower, basin, vanity & modern wc, then wardrobe, storage & dressing area, all perfectly laid out and ensuite.
The apartment is excellent for those travelling solo, or indeed couples, a young family with 2 children max. It is also ideal for long-term vacationers, especially via "The Barbados 12-month Welcome Stamp Visa Program" for those who can work remotely anywhere in the world. It is great for those ex-patriates and family of Barbadians in the UK, US, Canada, Germany, and other parts of the world, who are looking for a 'home-from-home' rather than a 'general public hotel' with a barrage of people. The apartment adjoins the main house on the ground floor level to the side and is therefore secluded, giving our guests total privacy. We are in the planning stages of adding a small pool, as well as a modernist two-story 2 bed block in place of the 2.5 car garage, which will allow for larger stays or couples to meet and the option to enjoy memories of Barbados together.
The apartment is situated on both local and North to South [ABC & Ronald Mapp Highways] bus routes, making the West Coast, South Coast, Speightstown, Holetown & Warrens shopping and business complexes very accessible, however, dependent on budget, a small hired car is recommended to enhance your convenience and stay, when travelling our little 21 x 14 miles of paradise.
There are two golf courses, tennis courts, a horse polo club facility within walking distances at Royal Westmoreland & Apes Hill respectively, with other local eateries & bars at Lancaster Great House, Haymarket, Tides, Loan Star, The Cliff, Fish Pot, as well as Chefette, Burger King & KFC Fast Food Restaurants, Rupa's Bar & Grill, Crystal's Outback Sports Bar, Surfside Bar and others to suite all preferences and budgets in close proximity, or just a couple of miles away dotted along the West Coast.
A little about your host, Kelvin.
I was born and raised in Black Rock and then The Bayland, St Michael, Barbados, where I attended Bay Primary School up to age 10 /11, when in 1971, my younger brother and I were whisked away on a very slow BOAC Trident Jet which took 13 long 'are we there yet' hours, to join our mother in England, Chiswick, West of London, and it was cold, very cold, in Spring. Soon after arrival we moved from Chiswick to just outside London to Feltham, Middlesex, where I attended secondary school, and where my thick Bajan accent presented some difficulties, but was overcome.
My first employment after leaving school was as a 5-year Apprentice Trainee Electronic Wireman, and this included attendance at Kingston College of Further education where I sat and passed two papers gaining two City & Guilds of London Certificates for my efforts, passed with Distinctions.
At 21, I had a change of direction and went into retailing with one of the UK's largest high street retailers, as at that time, I had developed a deep meaningful focus on men's clothing, sunglasses and girls, and I also found that I knew how to move my feet and hips on the '80's dance floor. After eight months, I was invited onto the company’s Trainee Management Program, which included a short course of professional training in the phycology behind managing people.
Thirteen years later, my quest for knowledge and the buzz of a challenge took me into the more difficult art of Direct Salesmanship, where the importance of understanding 'why people do the things, they do', was paramount to understanding & reading people, and lead to performance and was the deciding factors between whether one eat or not.
I became a father at 27 to the best son a father could wish for, and after an incredibly happy marriage I became a widower at 47. Nearly 20 yrs on from that dreadful event, I am now a grandfather to two gorgeous little girls.
I have a love for all the creative arts and architecture and an interest in worldwide events. My lasting quest to learn new things and about people, took me travelling throughout the lengths and breath of the UK & Ireland, Western Europe incl Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands [the Streets of Amsterdam a few times], Greece, Malta, the Americas [New York, Florida / Caribbean - Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel for a taste of Mexico, and Dubai for an introduction to the Middle-East, before returning to Barbados, which has always remained home, eight years ago.
Growing up and having a diversity of friends much wider than my limited travels, with different religious and cultural backgrounds, in addition to my travels from an early age, means that I have a very easy-going mindset, which is open to differences. My philosophy to life is, 'laughter at every opportunity, never take yourself, life or anything too seriously'. This is borne out through my long-suffering irrational love for a football club called; "Queens Park Rangers FC", but as I am one who like to see others doing well, and a closet glory hunter, I also support whichever team is at the top of their game and winning. I have a serious, focused, determined, and relentless work ethic that has always blinded me from playing as hard as I work; however, I do also enjoy kicking back with a rum/beer or five, and great stimulating conversation with good people about any non-sense that come from my mouth after 1.5 rum/beers.
The Neighbourhood:
The property sits on a terrace approx. 650ft above sea level, hence the title, "Breezy Vista on the Terrace", and stretches out from east to west, which means there is the benefit of a constant sea breezy to the occupants. The combine areas of Water Hall, St Silas, Deanes, Apes Hill & Westmoreland are classified as, "middle to upper income neighbourhoods", and retain some of the old-fashion ideals such as looking out for and ensuring the wellbeing of each other, which means our guess are assured of a comforting welcome, securities and pleasantries, as is typically synonymous with such neighbourhoods.
