Lovely cottage

Lovely, homely cottage in a rural and remote location. Very cosy winter break in spite of the winter weather. Wildlife spotting and star gazing included!

Absolutely magical

This place is a small slice of heaven! The cottage was immaculate, with everything you could possibly need for a break away from the hustle and bustle. Jennifer was extremely helpful and understanding ( as we got there a bit later than planned). The cottage is warm, homely and secluded with amazing views and walks. The pictures don’t do it justice. We are already looking at our calendar to see when we can return!!

Nice Beautiful Country Stay

This stay is perfect if you are looking for a getaway out in the country. It is about 20 minutes from town so you should bring some groceries. This place also doesn’t have WiFi, so be aware of that. There is some cell service if absolutely needed. The heat is also done via a fireplace which is warmth for the soul, however be aware of this as well because it takes some work to keep the fire going. Overall our stay was lovely. It is on a working cattle farm (sheep and horses). The host was very proactive, friendly, and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

October break to enjoy the night sky

A very pleasant three night break in October, to enjoy dark skies and spectacular sunrises. This location was so peaceful and quiet. The reason I gave 4 stars for communication is that VRBO made communication with the owner difficult by necessitating the need to read a QR code to get their app to be able to communicate with the owner. Not possible without a smart phone! and the App Store and Google Play links weren't live on their website either, making it doubly difficult. Can't fault the cottage though, lovely.

A touch of paradise

One of the most beautiful places I have stayed at, serene and beautiful. We had 2 nights there on our way back from Scotland, a perfect half way point. Jennifer showed us the calves she was caring for and let the kids hold the bottle of milk the calf hungrily drank. A big shout out to Bellamy the beautiful white horse that enjoyed our company from the other side of the fence. The cottage was cosy and beds comfy. Lots of toys and activities for the kids and lovely places to chill out in the enclosed garden.

Perfect!

A lovely cottage far enough away from the world to be peaceful but still close to amenities. Practicalities like the great hosts, the comfortable beds and the well stocked kitchen aside the pictures don’t do the setting justice.

Wonderful Farm Stay!!

We absolutely had a wonderful time staying at the farm cottage. Jennifer and David made us feel so welcome. The cottage was very roomy and comfortable - especially the king size bed which gave us wonderful nights sleep. The kitchen had everything we needed. And the availability of the bath in the bathroom was lovely for a good soak. The scenery is outstanding and so peaceful and quiet. The enclosed garden for our dog was a big bonus. And he thoroughly enjoyed it. Because of the time of the year - seeing all the lambs and calves frolicking in the fields was an added delight. The cottage is very private but if you need anything Jennifer and David were a short distance away. We could not have asked for a more perfect time in the countryside. We highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back next year. Thank you David and Jennifer for a perfect stay!!!

Great location, lacking a little love

What a spot this place is in, and how friendly our hosts were! We enjoyed the space in and around the cottage, but did feel it could use some love. From a not quite clean kitchen to curtains hanging on by a thread and some mould in the bathroom, a few little fixes would make it feel more welcoming and comfortable. That would make the cottage match the warm welcome we got from the hosts and surrounding animals, because they were great. We would say: do go here, but be aware some parts of the cottage are a little bare-bones.

Just WOW

To David, Jennifer, Belemy, the many sheep, the little birds, woodpecker and pheasants .... thank you allow us to share your place of absolute bliss. The digital detox was a bonus! We were welcomed on arrival by David to a gorgeous stone cottage already warmed by the log fire. The super king size bed .... well, i have no words ♥️. We will not only return... we will also recommend to anyone who wants to just get away from it all. Thank you 👩🧔‍♂️🐶

Idyllic retreat for our family over Christmas

It was our second stay at Girnwood over the Christmas holidays and like our first visit, this cottage very much feels like a second home to us. The cottage is warm and cosy with a fully equipped & spacious kitchen - which made Christmas diner cooking so easy. I particularly enjoyed watching the sheeps grazing in the fields from the large kitchen’s window while listening to Christmas carols on the radio. The location is idyllic & so peaceful with acres of green spaces & countryside to explore by foot. My teen & child particularly enjoyed spending time outdoors with the caring cottage’s owner Jennifer learning about the farm animals & surrounding wildlife, feeding carrots to the friendly horse and watching the shepherd dogs leading herds of sheep to new pastures. We also saw pheasants, a variety of wild birds & hares during our walks. The weather was very unsettled but nevertheless- we had a fabulous and relaxing time. There is no WiFi which was a bliss to us. There are a lot of interesting books for all ages & family games to play. We hope to be back again very soon.

Hidden gem

We had such a lovely cosy stay at Girnwood Cottage. The fire was already lit for our arrival and the owners couldn’t have been more welcoming. The location and views are just stunning yet the cottage is still within easy access of Hawick. Although we had some pretty windy weather during our stay we would never have known it from inside the cottage. We were even greeted by a lovely Christmas tree and decorations. Thank you both very much for making our short stay so comfortable, we wished we could have stayed longer!

This was a wonderful cottage to stay at! It was very secluded with beautiful views! We enjoyed taking the path to the far end and watch the view and sheep. Inside there was plenty of room. We enjoyed the tranquil fell throughout this cottage. Would definitely come back for a longer stay!

We absolutely loved our stay at The Cottage, being greeted by the horses was amazing as well at the views from the cottage, the hosts are so kind and friendly, we loved the farm and seeing all the animals, the kids had an amazing time and didn't miss the internet. The cottage had everything you need and the log burner was brilliant. We wouldn't change anything about this cottage. Thank you for having us! We will definitely return :)

We live in the farmhouse, 150 mtrs from the cottage and have run the cottage as a holiday home for over 40 years. My husband grew up with his family in the cottage.

What makes this property unique

It is the remote rural situation that makes this cottage unique. The open views can be enjoyed from the comfort of the sofa in the sitting room. Secluded and private but at the same time the farmhouse where we live is close by should you require us.
