Spring Break Vacation for family of 5
To start I will say we had a great time overall at the resort and in the area. We had a good blend of pool time, shopping time, adventure time. We were a family of 5 (2 kids) and my mom. The condo was great, with enough room for everyone. It is spacious, has a nice view and is close to the pool and beach. Having the butler available for requests is nice, although we didn't ask for much. It's a little difficult to decipher what is included and what is not, but being in this building definitely gets you some "perks".
The resort is cool with a significant mangrove forest to walk/bike through. We visited the cenotes, which were cool, but not as amazing as I had envisioned. We played volleyball on the beach and snorkeled (trip to the nearby reef). There are always activities going on around the resort, which is nice- water aerobics, sushi making, towel folding, dance class, Mexican night, Caribbean night, performances, etc.
As I read in other reviews of this resort, the beach is a little disappointing. Since we are not huge beach-people, it wasn't that big of a deal, but just know there is a lot of seaweed in the water and at the waterline, so we didn't even enter the water at this resort. We went to their sister-resort in Playacar and got a little beach time there instead. There are spots to get in the water, but we didn't try that hard.
There is a free shuttle van to go to town (only in the morning), but not back. Cab rides cost approx. $20-40, depending on the size of cab you get. With 5 of us, we needed a large cab which basically costs double a standard cab.
The only disappointment of the trip was the food at the resort. It is not great. I'm not sure why they don't try a little harder, but everything was quite bland. We tried all 5 restaurants and felt the best was the Asian one. We had most of our meals at The Grille, by the pool, which was nice and open-air. If you are a vegetarian, or a "foodie", this might not be the best resort for you. Our best meals were in town.
We went to Tulum for the day (~ 1hr. 45 min. away) which was nice. Bring your swim suit to swim on the beach.
We went to Xel Ha for the day (~1 hr 15 min.). This is a huge water park and shouldn't be missed. AMAZING!
