About this property
Umbrian elegance, in the hills between Tuscany and Umbria
Due Torri oozes rustic Italian elegance and charm amongst the rolling hills of the Umbrian/Tuscan border. Immersed in nature, Due Torri is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Comprising two original watch towers dating back to the 13th century, the property has been painstakingly renovated in a way which preserves the character and features of this historic building, whilst providing a modern level of comfort, style and convenience (air-con throughout).
Sitting proudly atop a small promontory (at 400m asl) the house offers a beautiful aspect providing 360 degree views, down into the valley and with the Apennine mountains in the distance, and offering direct sunshine from dawn till dusk. Mature cypress trees majestically line the border of the property, accentuating the classic Tuscan/Umbrian style. With its beautiful gardens surrounding the large swimming pool, and 3 hectares of land and forest, Due Torri is the perfect oasis of calm to relax and unwind, whilst also providing convenient access to the important towns of Umbria and Tuscany, and the fine art, culture, historical heritage and superb food and wine offered by the region.
Ideally suited to large/mixed groups, or groups with children, with 2 living areas, 2 kitchens, and several separate outside dining/reading/lounging areas.
The property, made and renovated with typical Umbrian stone, is composed of 2 floors, with an elegant portico looking over a large piazza. This is one of the several outside dining areas, featuring a characteristic large decorated circular dining table, with large sun shade. The ground floor hosts the main living area, which is a large open plan area dominated by characteristic brick arches, with period beams and terracotta tile ceilings. Large double doors lead you from the external portico into the main area, where there is a spacious dining area with large circular dining table. This area is bordered by 2 beautiful arches which takes you to a spacious kitchen area, with a modern style and convenient features and appliances. The kitchen is very well-equipped, with a large fridge/freezer, 2 dish washers, large multi-hob range oven, a breakfast counter-top and 2 separate sink areas.
Back through the dining area and another beautiful arch takes you to the comfortable living room area, featuring a period fireplace with wood burner, and double doors out to the back of the house where there is an external sitting area, ideal for those sundowner cocktails. The living area features beautiful art pieces and artistic/historical objects throughout.
There is one double bedroom on the ground floor, with an allocated bathroom (which is also the bathroom serving the living area). A large double bedroom, beautifully decorated, with wardrobe area and furniture. Bathroom equipped with both bath and shower.
First floor
Up the stairs to the first floor, which features 3 double bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms, an additional large living/reading/entertaining area, and a spare kitchen/utility room. The largest bedroom also has external doors to the first floor of the portico, offering unrivalled views into the valley and surrounding countryside. This bedroom shares a very large bathroom with the fourth bedroom. The secondary living area also has access to the portico, and features a large, beautiful period fireplace, and several historic features. The rooms on this floor have very high ceilings, and the fourth bedroom has an upper mezzanine level for additional storage. The second bedroom on this floor has its own allocated bathroom. Modern air conditioner units throughout. The bedrooms are large and additional single beds for children can be added if required. 2 of the 4 double bedrooms can also be configured as twin bed rooms.
Second Building
There is an adjacent building to the main property (where the owner may be staying at times) which also offers amenities that can be used by guests on request, including exercise/yoga room, cinema room with projector, library/reading room, utility/laundry room and an additional bedroom that has access to the main piazza (with large ensuite bathroom).
Pool and Gardens
The exquisite gardens provide a beautiful environment for peace and relaxation, providing both direct sun areas and shady spots. The gardens are ideal for a large group, providing both opportunity for group activity, dining, entertaining and play – and quieter, shady spots for more peaceful, solitary time, with a glass of wine and a book. The gardens are pristine and very well maintained, by a professional gardener.
The large pool is set back from the house in a picturesque position, surrounded by trees, flowers and shrubs. The pool is large with 2 distinct sections – a main large section with varying depths and a diving board, and a connected section which is very shallow for small children and paddling. There are several large sun umbrellas and good quality sun beds and lounging bags. There is an extensive outside dining area surrounding the pool, with a large dining table and chairs. Connected to the pool is a large pool house with bathroom, shower and kitchen area.
The gardens are extensive and immaculate, and feature pristine box hedged lanes, and a variety of mature trees and flowers. There is also a large open area, which is perfect for walks, play and outdoor games. In the centre of the garden is an exquisite dining/entertaining area, set under a pergola covered in mature wisteria, providing a perfect shaded area for eating, drinking and reading etc. There is also another seating area, shaded by 2 mature Cypress trees, and another pergola further away from the house for more secluded relaxation etc. There are several other seating areas around the gardens, particularly fun for children, exploring, or for an isolated reading spot. Around the grounds there are several artistic features, large ancient urns etc. A swing hanging from one of the mature Pine trees provides a lovely spot for quiet contemplation.
The dedicated gardener is on-site most days to provide any assistance needed, maintenance etc.
There is another 3 hectares of land attached to the property, which offers several walks, and far reaching views, over the surrounding woodlands, olive groves, orchards and the small village on the next hilltop. There are many longer walks available from the property.
The Area
The property is secluded in nature and yet is not isolated. Nearest bar and supermarket are 5 mins drive away, and a larger town with restaurants, larger supermarkets and all amenities is 10 mins drive. A smaller town with a fantastic restaurant/pizzeria can be seen on the next hill 8 mins drive away (or a walk with a short-cut).
The area boasts access to some of the best known towns and historic/cultural sites in Umbria and Tuscany, with easy access to Florence, Perugia, Cortona, Arezzo, Lake Trasimeno, Città di Castello, Gubbio, Assisi, Spello, Spoleto, Bavagna, Todi, Orvieto, Montone etc.
