About this property
Pretty wooden house near Loches, Touraine, near the Chateaux of the Loire Valley
An unusual, handmade wooden house, set in its own large garden, ideal for a writer's retreat, or a peaceful stay in the Loire Valley - known for its beauty, castles, cheese and wine. In a small hamlet, 10 mins drive from Loches - a medieval town with shops, restaurants, markets and cultural events. 40 mins from Chenonceau, Villandry and Amboise, last home to Leonardo da Vinci.
We want you to feel completely at home; you can live on the different verandahs all day, benefitting from being surrounded by nature.
The space
We built the house in 2009, out of wood from Finland. It's insulated with sheep's wool and has layers of hemp between the logs. It's entirely handmade, with painted wooden floors, walls and even some of the glass in the windows.
Most of the furniture and furnishings are up-cycled, and the paint on the walls and furniture is non-chemical.
In every bedroom there are openings for ventilation, even with the triple-glazed windows closed. The kitchen is well-equipped and open-plan with comfortable chairs and a large kitchen table. It has double glass doors opening on to the wooden deck at the front, and a glazed door at the back so you can eat outside any time of the day.
There are large trees and parts of the garden are left wild to encourage birds and other wildlife; you might even see a red squirrel.
We hope you'll find being surrounded by wood and greenery makes you feel good!
Guest access
You'll have the house and garden to yourselves.
Other things to note
The third bedroom has it's own independent entrance from the front deck.
The phone signal at the house is excellent allowing you full access to speedy 4G internet through your own mobile data.
We try to combine comfort and natural beauty, the house being a mix of modern and old. It has its own style, encouraging a simple and sustainable way of life. We do remove cobwebs, but spiders are extremely speedy and efficient at making them, so please let us know if you want us to come during your stay to do extra cleaning. Above all, we value your comfort during your stay at the wooden house.
