NEIGHBORHOOD
Argegno is located on the shores of Lake Como and offers a splendid view of the lake. The mouth of the Telo River, also known as Telo d'Argento, divides the ancient medieval town into two parts, connected by an ancient stone bridge with sharp arches. A cable car allows you to reach the nearby village of Pigra, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The Santuario di Sant'Anna is located a few kilometers from Argegno, along the provincial road to Schignano. In the center, you can easily rent boats, bicycles, kayaks, paddleboards, and more. You will find high-class restaurants for a romantic or special dinner. There are also nice bars with live music in the summer.
GETTING AROUND
For the convenience of guests, we recommend arriving by car. Private parking makes it easy to get around by car.
From the Argegno pier, a local ferry service will take you to Como and other lakeside towns. Note: if you travel during the high season, we recommend being patient with the long lines at the ticket office (especially in Como city). Tickets can also be purchased online on the Navigazione Laghi website.
Unfortunately, most public transport services stop before 10:00 PM, and the ferries even earlier. Taxis are also available, but not easily accessible in the region.
From Como San Giovanni station, trains regularly depart for Milan Central and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno). From Como Nord Lago, there is a railway connection to Milan Cadorna.
The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. A direct shuttle to and from the airport can be arranged at an additional cost.
For further questions about transportation, do not hesitate to contact us: we will be happy to help you and ensure you reach your preferred destination!
TIPS
We recommend dedicating a day to visiting the wonderful towns around the lake. Como city is the urban center of the area, but the towns are gems with beautiful lakeside villas.
To travel and walk around Lake Como, especially in small towns, it is necessary to wear comfortable shoes.
There are many public drinking fountains in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also drinkable. You can bring your refillable bottle!
If you are looking for a relatively easy hike in the area and still want to enjoy the mountain views, the Greenway of Lake Como is an easy-to-follow trail that connects the towns from Colonno to Griante and does not require too many climbs. A bus will take you to the starting point in Colonno.
The cable car takes you to Pigra. From the village, numerous hiking trails start, from easy to challenging.
Look for traditional restaurants where you can taste local foods, such as dishes based on Lake Como fish.
In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services are closed in the middle of the day, so plan your shopping accordingly.
Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. For those who want to immerse themselves in the water, however, there are some options. Look for the Lido of Argegno. There are also beaches in other towns. The Lido of Bellagio and the pebble beach of San Giovanni await those who want to travel and explore the beautiful town of Bellagio, located at the center of the two branches of the lake. Locals and visitors also love to go to Nesso, where the bravest swimmers can dive into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall.
Lake Como is located in a mountainous region. The surrounding pre-Alps do not seem very high, but the climate is still influenced by the nearby mountains, and temperatures can change quickly. Pay particular attention to weather conditions during hikes and bring warm and waterproof clothing!
