About this property
Quirky Lodge & Garden nr Totnes
Summary:
Surrounded by rural woodland, grazing livestock and a historic Iron Age fort, Grooms Lodge is the epitome of a countryside oasis. And inside, it’s all equally as peaceful too. Each room has a calming appeal, having been stylishly decorated in tasteful neutrals and warm white tones. Paired perfectly with unique vintage fittings and furnishings. When the sun shines, enjoy a BBQ using the Big Green Egg outside - you can even rustle up homemade pizzas. Or when the weather turns, head inside for cosy evenings in front of the wood-burning fireplace.
The Space:
The Grooms Lodge has a quirky layout. Upstairs is a self-contained studio apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, living room with sofa bed and kitchenette. It is accessed via an external staircase from downstairs. The downstairs area has a full kitchen, living area, second bedroom and bathroom. It also has patio doors leading out to a conservatory area with seating and BBQ, then further on into the garden. It’s ideal if you’re visiting as two families that want to enjoy communal areas, as well as having your own private sleeping spots.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole lodge.
The Neighborhood:
The lodge is just a 15-minute drive to the vibrant town of Totnes, known for its bohemian spirit and historic charm. There’s so much to explore in the local area, from the eclectic mix of independent shops, cafes, and markets along Fore Street to Totnes Castle, a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress offering panoramic views. You can also enjoy a serene walk along the River Dart or take a boat trip to nearby Dartmouth.
That said, the lodge is also well-positioned for enjoying the coastline. Drive 15 minutes east and you’ll discover miles of sandy beaches at Slapton Sands, Blackpool Sands, Strete, Torpoint and more. In the same direction, you'll also find Dartmouth - a historic port town, which is a firm favourite for traditional fisherman's cottages and river-based activities. Every summer, the town hosts its annual Royal Regatta - a celebration of rowing and sailing. The three day event boasts sailing, sports, live music, street food, fireworks, and so much more. Find more local tips and tricks in our Guest Guide, which is available upon booking.
Getting Around:
Due to the rural location, we suggest bringing a car to make the most of exploring this beautiful part of Devon. Private off road parking is available for 2 vehicles.
Other Things to Note:
Please note that the house and parking is accessed via a lane, with no turning space, so you will need to reverse out.
