About this property
Wishbone Cottage in the Cotswolds
Summary:
Wishbone Cottage strikes a balance between providing a cosy home away from home with the luxurious feel of a boutique hotel. As guests you have the whole cottage to yourselves and will feel totally relaxed in the beautiful calming décor, which offers both Cotswolds character charm and chic modern design.
We have made an extra effort for those finer details to help provide a perfect Cotswolds cottage holiday. Perfect for couples, friends or families looking to enjoy the area. One SMALL dog allowed.
The Space:
Wishbone provides its guests with an elegant relaxing break; the cottage enjoys beautifully renovated limestone internal walls which add such character to the building and a lovely warm feel throughout the cottage
In the sitting room is a wooden floor with a rug for your comfort as well as a electric log burner. There is a leather sofa, leather armchair and 2 individual chairs, good lighting with plenty of lamps, soft throws and lots of cushions. The cottage offers up to date technology including a digital TV with Freeview television channels, Chromecast, Amazon Firestick providing Netflix and catchup TV on demand as well as a DVD player. Books, DVDs and board games are also on hand.
The kitchen has the original flagstone floor and is very well equipped with a large 5 burner range style cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and many pots, pans and cooking utensils. A good selection of crockery and glassware, a washing machine and tumble dryer, along with an iron and ironing board are all provided. There is a lovely pine kitchen table with painted chairs which can seat four/five.
Upstairs, you will find all floors fitted with sisal flooring and on the landing is a shabby chic style console table - great for lap tops, with a desk lamp and a long wall mirror. The landing looks out on to the cottage garden at the rear of the property.
The main bedroom features a king size bed, hanging space and cupboards with a dressing table and stool, bedside cabinets and table lamps.
The second bedroom at the top of the house offers a standard double bed as well as a sofa bed which can be made up to provide either a twin bed set up or as an extra bed for the 5th guest. This bedroom has lovely exposed stone walls and has a real 'hide away' feel. The main two beds are made ready for your arrival with lovely crisp white bed linen, pillows and throws for your comfort. Both bedrooms have good lighting from lamps and ceiling lights
The bathroom is set in stone walls with travertine tiles and contemporary fittings in the bath, overhead shower, basin and a soft close lid on the loo. A small selection of toiletries are provided including soap, shower gel, body lotion and shampoo (you may want to bring more for the duration of your stay), oak framed mirror, wall mounted shaving mirror, heated towel rail, plenty of soft towels and bath mats. Loo roll is provided.
The cottage garden is private and very secure, looking out towards the c.13th Century Church of St Mary's. There is a pretty stone built summer house which is great for relaxing, reading and playing outdoor games. On the summer house decking you can find a set of metal garden furniture with cushions and a gas BBQ with gas is provided on the patio area outside the house. We have mature wisteria growing on the stone walls providing lovely soft shading in the summer months.
We regret no children under 8.
Guest Access:
There is free on street parking along Milton Street outside the property, as well as several free carpark areas in the centre of the village no more than a 6 minute walk away (Fairford Car Park, visible on Maps, as well as throughout the village square) .
We do not recommend the cottage for wheel chair users as there is a step in to the cottage from the pavement and 2 sets of stairs to the bedrooms and bathroom
Guests have exclusive access to the whole of Wishbone including the private cottage garden at the rear of the property.
The Neighborhood:
Sitting in the Southern Cotswolds, on the western side of Fairford town and nestled within the stunning Coln Valley
Fairford is within easy distance of all the great Cotswold attractions, such as Bibury, Burford, Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water and Broadway to name just a few. We have the Cotswold Water Parks all around us for great water sports, bike rides & walks - Bikes can be hired at the lakes. We are surrounded by lovely countryside just a few seconds from Wishbone's front door so walks are all around. A lovely walk from the cottage, through the water meadow, down to feed the ducks at the mill and then further into the countryside for a pretty Cotswold walk to a good pub for lunch!
Originally a 16th Century bakery, Wishbone is a period Cotswold stone cottage in a row of terraced limestone properties on Milton Street in the pretty market town of Fairford, which is situated in the beautiful Coln Valley and the Cotswold Water Park.
Getting Around:
Wishbone offers its guests an elegant relaxing break in a traditional cottage with modern touches throughout, on a village road a couple of minutes walk from a historic gastro pub, village farmers' market, country walks and amenities such as Boots and grocers. Whether you wish to meander across the water meadows before a pub lunch at the Guardian-recommended Bull Inn, enjoy a coffee at the Lynwood & Co coffee shop around the corner, stroll to the Wednesday market in the square or explore the many delights of nearby Burford, Bibury and so many other beautiful locations, we’re sure that Wishbone can provide the perfect base for it!
There is plenty to do locally in and around Fairford, however, Wishbone is in the Cotswold Rural Area. You are advised to have your own transport to fully enjoy the Cotswolds and all that it has to offer. Public Transport is available in a limited form from Fairford to other towns and areas by public bus. The nearest train station is Swindon which is 25 minutes away by car/taxi or from the picturesque train station at Charlbury which is again 25 minutes away
Other Things to Note:
The sofa bed can be made up to create twin beds in the 2nd bedroom or as a large single bed for the extra 5th person in your group (The sofa bed is approximately 4 feet wide)
Where possible, we try and accommodate early or late check in and departure times - this usually depends on previous guests and change overs on the day
We have a key safe at the cottage and can also be used at the end of your stay to make your departure as smooth as possible - you can let yourselves out!
No Children under 8
1 SMALL Dog allowed - £50 surcharge and not allowed upstairs.
Interaction with Guests:
Should you need to know anything in particular, I am always happy to help where I can. However to ensure that you enjoy your stay, I have employed a management company to ensure that the cottage is primed for your arrival, and they will be on hand to help during your stay. Full details will be provided on booking, but their details can be found at Roost
You can be assured you are then left to your own devices and given all privacy for the duration of your stay.
