Formerly the centre of the slate mining industry in the valley, Glyn Ceiriog is located three miles south of Llangollen and offers a good range of local amenities, including two village pubs, a Post Office containing tourist information and a cafe, a well-stocked village store and a community sports centre, offering a range of activities including bicycle hire, tennis, indoor bowls and table tennis. Nearby, you will find a wide array of attractions, with the dramatic World Heritage Site of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct well worth a visit. Offering a good range of pubs and restaurants, as well as many interesting shops, the town also boasts a dramatic mountain backdrop. Explore the Dee Valley by steam train or canal boat, or take an exhilarating walk up to Castell Dinas Brân, high above the town to enjoy the breathtaking view! The National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erddig are both within easy driving distance, while a day-long car trip can take you to visit six of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Enjoy a visit to the Old Hill Fort at Oswestry, scenic walking on Offa’s Dyke Path, along the crest of the Clwydian Hills, or access the national rail network to explore the Roman city of Chester, Shrewsbury and beyond. Glyn Ceiriog is a wonderful base for exploring this beautiful region all year round.
