About this property

Upper Lodge at Kentchurch - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

Sitting alongside Kentchurch Court, the location of this thoughtfully curated lodge is inspiring. The estate is steeped in history and you start each day as if you’ve stepped into another time. Beautifully rural with a deer park just behind, you can get away from it all but are just a short stroll from the nearest pub. Exciting days out are on the cards with a trip to Grosmont Castle, the thriving town of Monmouth or the breathtaking Brecon Beacons.

Upper Lodge provides a sense of tranquillity and is a great space to gather with friends and family. The old and the new complement each other here with original fireplaces, arched windows, funky textiles and modern artwork. Dine alongside garden views in the fabulous kitchen while the spacious living room tempts you in to relax. As the fire roars settle in for a cosy evening with your loved ones, enjoying this peaceful spot where you can escape to another world. Three bedrooms, each with their own en-suite, are on the first floor with garden views and splashes of colour.

Outside, the style continues with a fantastic, enclosed garden where the children and dogs can while away the hours playing games. Put your feet up and listen to the sounds of nature and the sizzling BBQ while the outdoor table is set for a feast. On open days, visit the gardens at Kentchurch Court and learn more about this historic estate, ancestral home of the Lucas-Scudamore family.

Ground floor

Entrance Hall
Upper Lodge's entrance hall welcomes you with natural light and a plethora of antiques. We love the classic feel to this room.

Kitchen/Dining Area
The expansive kitchen and dining area is a place to gather and connect over good food and conversation. With its elegant communal island forming the heart of the room, wander over to the dining table where there's seating for six people with a view of the expansive garden.

Sitting Room
With natural light streaming through the windows, garden views and comfortable seating, this is the place you will be drawn to for relaxation and to unwind at the end of the day. A contemporary woodburner takes away the chill during winter months and you can stream your favourite film on the large wall-mounted TV.

Cloakroom
The downstairs cloakroom provides a WC and hand basin for refreshing.

First floor

Bedroom One
Upper Lodge's first bedroom is a tranquil place for resting after days exploring Herefordshire, laze here and watch TV before setting in for the night. With its sumptuous super king-sized bed, antique furniture and garden views, it's a restorative place to switch off.

En-suite
Walk down the lit up steps into bedroom one's en-suite and you'll uncover a peaceful spot to refresh whether you've spent the day sightseeing, walking or gathering in the garden. We love the black and white flooring, rolltop bath and scalloped mirrors.

Bedroom Two
This serene room has a super king-size bed with a colourful headboard adding personality. The arched windows show a glimpse of the history of this building which has a contemporary twist in the decor. There is a wardrobe, TV and dressing table to ensure you have everything you need.

En-suite
With its black and white tiling accented by salmon pink lining, bedroom two's en-suite has a distinctly Parisian feel, while the walk-in shower and curved wall mirror elevate the space.

Bedroom Three
Mirroring the style of Upper Lodge's first two bedrooms, this twin room exudes rustic charm. The beds can be arranged as a super king-size on request. With its classic wooden accents and elegant lighting, we love the cosy feel to this room.

En-suite
Soaked in natural light, bedroom three's gleaming en-suite signs off this room with grandeur. With a rainfall shower, ivy green tiling and quirky art it's a fun addition to this room.

Outside

Open the elegant French doors from the kitchen/diner to Upper Lodge's tranquil outside space and you'll instantly feel at ease. A private and enclosed walled garden where you can revel in the quiet surroundings of Kentchurch Court, spend time playing croquet on the lawn or wander over to the terrace that weaves around the property. As the sun begins to sink across the Herefordshire skyline, switch on the festoon lights and enjoy dinner at the table, or pull out a lounger to catch the last few rays of the day. In the morning, a second smaller table and chairs makes the perfect place for coffee and croissants.

Wonderful stay

We absolutely loved our stay at Upper Lodge. The house was extremely spacious, but also very cosy and homely. We loved the stylish decor and found everything to be in perfect condition. The location was very beautiful and peaceful, and the house felt very private. We would definitely love to return in the future.

Exceptional Property

Everything about our stay at Upper Lodge was exceptional. The accommodation is wonderful with all requirements for our stay catered for. The quality of the property is the best we have stayed in. Booking was easy, directions were given and Helen the housekeeper answered all questions instantly via email. I will be booking next year without hesitation.

Fabulous

The house was really fabulous with great decor, comfy beds and a fully enclosed garden for the dog. Beautiful gardens adjacent where you can buy lovely plants. Plenty of places to eat locally though a car is needed for most (the same for shops). Very peaceful place with well stocked kitchen as well as croquet, boules and darts.

Absolutely wonderful property to stay in. Very high standard. Beautiful location.

The property was just wonderful with so many supplies that we felt like we had all the comforts of home! Linda and Helen were so kind and helpful. The location absolutely requires a car to get around, but the walks, the streams, hills and rivers, the villages etc etc are just out of this world. By the end of the holiday we felt like we were part of the family and will be rebooking 100% to stay again. We did actually extend our stay because we still had lots to see and do and it was worth it. No one actually wanted to leave to be honest. Be prepared to wait for flocks of partridges and sheep to get out of your way in their own time whilst trying to get to your destinations. This property would be beautiful in Autumn and in Winter too so you really cannot go wrong.
