About the host
Hosted by Sylva Menard

Hi, I'm Sylva. I'm an RN but I spend my days homeschooling our two children and on property management. My husband Mark is a software business owner right here in Troy. We travel regularly for work and pleasure, and want to make your stays are as quiet, clean, and comfortable as we ourselves like.
We're raising our kids here in Troy with the opportunity to have the close community that a small friendly city offers, to live, work, and play urban, and to be accessible to the outdoor wilds of the Capital District and beyond.
Walk outside on pleasant evenings and you might be serenaded by Mark playing ukulele or guitar on the stoop next door - we live right here. Depending on the day, come by for a free ukulele lesson or jam with both of us at our monthly ukulele meetup.
We took over managing the properties from Mark's father in 2011, and have been slowly working on upgrading and improving the apartments and buildings ever since. Menard Properties LLC.

Why they chose this property
We are glad to introduce you to 2174 Fifth Ave, or “The Alfred”, in historic Troy, New York.
This three-story brownstone has been in our family for three generations, and we are happy to welcome you to the neighborhood. Mark's father Al was a fixture in the Capital District, playing the organ at Guptill's Rollerskating Arena (largest roller-rink in the world!) and other surrounding establishments. He even had his own TV show at one point. Sylva, too, has family ancestors who lived in Troy before moving west. Our family history is steeped in Troy.
Our neighborhood is one block north of the great fire of Troyibald 1862. The property is part of the original Van Rensselaer subdivision, though the details and history are lost to time and fire as the deeds and titles burned at the county record building.
