A dreary apartment in a stunning palace
The building from the outside is a beautiful 14th century palace built by one of the main families of Venice, but the inside was a different story.
The apartment is dreary and poorly maintained, with a desperate need for a coat of paint and a good dusting. The website picture of the living room is outdated: The standing lamp is missing, which is bad because the lighting in the living room is atrocious. There were no wine glasses and the curtains on the windows were gone. The bathroom is depressing and the toilet is awkwardly placed much too close to the sink. The entrance hall to the different units is shabby with horrible lighting and old sofas that don’t match.
After booking, we immediately were inundated with ads from the management company about tours in Venice. When I tried to find out where to pick up the key, I had to ask several times. The details I finally received about its location were slightly wrong. (Incidentally, the key is far away, at the Piazzale Roma.)
Absolutely no basics in the kitchen, which is unusual for a VRBO, where they’ll often leave a bottle of water or inexpensive wine in the fridge as a gift. No salt or pepper, coffee, cooking oil, dried herbs. Nothing! Sink drain filter wouldn’t prop open. Right front burner doesn’t work on stove. Cups were dirty.
It’s poorly maintained. When we arrived the front door handle was obviously loose and eventually came off the 2nd day (they did fix it). The left window didn’t open and close properly.
