Welcome to the Wagtails!
Our 4 bedroom, 8 guest retreat on Wallasea Island. With 4 large double bedrooms (one including a mezzanine floor, for the ultimate nature-watching experience👀), a well-equipped kitchen, a spacious lounge, and a private garden The Wagtails is your ideal spot for getting away and relaxing!
There are so many walks, nature reservoirs and fishing opportunities around us, you can do as much or as little as you'd like.
Property Highlights:
Bedrooms: The Wagtails features four spacious bedrooms. Three of which are double beds and the fourth is a king size bed. The standout has to be our mezzanine floor room, whereby guests can head up onto the additional floor and look out from the window, taking in the great views - it's a decent spot for nature/ birdwatching! When you've seen enough, head on back down and take yourself bed.
Bathrooms: The bathroom has a modern bathtub, with a shower above. There is a WC and separately there is wash basin and a further WC.
Living Area: The lounge is large and offers ample space for all 8 guests. It is a great space for unwinding in and there is a dining table to enjoy a meal around or socialise at.
Kitchen: The kitchen has everything you need for a short or long term stay at The Wagtails.
**We do have the property next door also that can accommodate a further 6 guests. If you would like to book both properties out for an event, holiday, celebration etc, then please do get in touch!**

Wallasea Island RSPB - Nature Reserve
There’s plenty to explore on the more than 740 hectares of the reserve and there are six walking trails, with two shelters so that you can sit back and relax while you watch the river. Wallasea Island sits within a Special Protection Area which covers the Crouch and Roach estuaries, which are home to various waders and wildfowl, like Dark-bellied Brent Geese.
Bird Watching:
Wallasea Island is a paradise for birdwatchers. You can spot a variety of species, including avocets, lapwings, curlews, marsh harriers, and short-eared owls. The island is especially popular during migration seasons when numerous wading birds and waterfowl pass through.
Coastal Walks
Walking Trails:
The coastal walks around Wallasea Island provide stunning views of the Essex coastline, estuaries, and the island’s unique wetland habitats. The trails are generally easy to moderate, suitable for walkers of all levels. We will provide some guidance on walks for different abilities.
You can expect expansive views of mudflats, saltmarshes, and the open sea.
Wallasea Island - Seal Watching
The waters around Wallasea Island are home to a population of seals. Seal watching tours are available, offering a chance to see these marine mammals in their natural habitat.
Canewdon - Church
St. Nicholas Church:

Guests will have access to the whole property and garden
IMPORTANT: On behalf of our host at Pass the Keys, we require guest verification facilitated by Truvi (Previously called Superhog). Upon confirming your booking, Truvi will contact the lead booker via a secure link, providing detailed instructions for the verification process.
The online verification requires a government-issued photo ID and a credit or debit card. During this process, you may choose between a refundable GBP 500 deposit (plus GBP 10 transaction fee currency equivalent) or purchase a non-refundable damage waiver of GBP 40 (currency equivalent) to cover potential damages during your stay.
Once the verification process is successfully completed, check-in information will be provided. If you opted in for a deposit, this will be refunded via credit/debit card after your stay, subject to an inspection of the property.
