About this property
Auchenlarie Courtyard No 1 - a cottage that sleeps 5 guests in 3 bedrooms
Auchenlarie Courtyard No 1 is a two storey Galloway Stone Cottage formed from a former farm steading in a courtyard setting, situated just a short stroll from the enchanting Wigtown Bay, with access to the nearby secluded, sandy beach.
The cottage offers spacious accommodation for 5 in three bedrooms, with the open plan living area with doors leading to external decking with barbecue and outdoor hot tub making it perfect for family breaks and special occasions at any time of the year.
Guests are welcome to use the facilities of the owner's family run Holiday Park opposite, which include live entertainment in the Starlight Suite, a Sports Bar, Children's Arcade, Fitness Suite with Gym and Swimming Pool, or dine at the Tide & Table Restaurant or Tides Takeaway.
With a beautiful unspoilt sandy beach within a short walk, idyllic summer days can be spent building sandcastles, playing beach games, rock pooling, kayaking and paddle boarding.
The nearby picturesque small rural town of Gatehouse of Fleet provides numerous opportunities for eating out, a delightful and testing nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, river and loch fishing. Historical attractions are Cardoness Castle, a late 15th-century fortified tower house that was the ancient seat of the McCullochs, and the ruins of Anwoth Church with its atmospheric graveyard, complete with Covenanter graves.
Within a short drive are the wonderful sandy beaches at Sandgreen and Mossyard, perfect for bathing, windsurfing and sailing and the whole area is ideal for walking and cycling. Forest tracks near the cottage are ideal for mountain biking and the Kirroughtree Stage of the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Network is within a short drive. The area is a haven for wildlife, with regular sightings of deer and red kites. As the area is situated on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, nominated Britain's first Dark Sky Park, a clear night will present amazing opportunities for star gazing.
For the younger generation, Ernespie Farm in Castle Douglas offers both indoor and outdoor play areas along with a café with delicious offerings for all ages. The Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm which has both indoor & outdoor play areas and offers Chocolate Making workshops; The Wee Pottery and the Dark Sky Planetarium in Kirkcudbright, along with numerous connections to Rabbie Burns, the national bard which can be found around the area are ideal for the days with inclement weather.
