Great for our KC Weekend Getaway!

We came in town for an event at Starlight Theater and were looking for a place to stay for the weekend. This place was perfect -- convenient to everything we wanted to see, safe neighborhood, easy parking, beautiful living space. The owner was in constant communication, checking in with us and making sure we had everything we needed. Check-in/Check out was super easy and instructions were detailed and precise. Overall, we had a great weekend!

Great KC Midtown/Plaza Experience!

Would definitely stay hear again! And thank you Lance for being such a gracious host. This home is a great example of the architecture prevalent in Midtown Kansas City and is in a perfect location. It is easy walking distance to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Plaza and Westport, as well as an easy commute to anywhere from River Market to the Zoo or Arrowhead. Lance had the unit in perfect condition and was very helpful with questions and suggestions for activities. The unit was equipped well with everything and the instructions were very easy to understand. Although it wasn't an issue for our stay, I would suggest to have better ventilation added in the bathroom, such as a small fan for the window or something as it seemed to get humid and musty easily as the door tended to settle in a nearly closed position. Thank you again!

Not Worth It

We were very disappointed with our experience. The unit was not ready when we arrived and was then not very clean. The management was fairly responsive but there were just too many things for them to fix. The kitchen ceiling leaked when it rained, our shower water was inadvertently turned off, carpenter ants invaded our kitchen and a raccoon took up residence in the ceiling! We were there for 28 days and even though the location was good, we didn’t enjoy the property.

Charming and nostalgic, but could use improvement

At first glance, this place is fun with lots of character -- the neighborhood is old but charming, the building is historical and attractive, and once inside, the decor is pleasing and cozy, there's a surprising amount of space, and everything seems updated but maintains its old-world nostalgia. However, once we settled in, we found ourselves less and less impressed as our stay progressed. First off, if you're out of shape, you should know that this property requires SO. MUCH. EXERCISE!!!! Like, to the point of feeling like you're dying by the time you unload your vehicle. There are stairs, stairs, and more stairs -- stairs from the street, stairs up the porch, then lots more stairs to the second floor. Those ones are old, wooden, and creaky, so it's impossible not to sound like an elephant tromping up and down them (which is probably annoying to other tenants). We quickly realized the place was a) not very clean, even on the landings, and b) had been remodeled by someone who took a lot of shortcuts. Then we saw scuffs, foundation cracks, weird debris, etc. all over the walls, ceilings, and baseboards/moldings, and dust bunnies/cobwebs were prominent as if the property hadn't been deep cleaned in ages. Most surfaces were clean, as were the linens, but the floor was gross. You're not allowed to wear shoes, yet the panels are uneven and rough; we got splinters, tripped, and our feet were black by the end of the day. There was debris (cotton balls and hair ties) on the floors of the closets. In the kitchen, there was a drawer FULL of snacks, many of which were open, and there was loose food at the bottom of the drawer. In the middle of the night, there was a scratching sound in the ceiling; the next day, we heard a GUNSHOT below us, which turned out to be the cleaning crew exterminating a wild animal in the basement! The furniture in the living room isn't great; the cushions are so flat you feel like you're sitting on a pallet. There was a leak in the kitchen, so pieces of the ceiling crumbled onto the floor and we had to clean it up. The bathroom is cramped. The seal on the outer door to the landing is damaged, so sound travels (we often heard a baby crying, people talking and using the stairs). All in all, the owner was communicative, we felt safe enough, and the place had some lovely elements to it, but those were overshadowed by the unpleasant aspects. I'm sorry to say we wouldn't stay here again.

Location. Location

Close to both the Countdy Club Plaza and also Westport/KC Mo. Old house with plenty of character, and authentic squeaky wooden floors, which always makes me feel cozy!! And yet lovely updated living area. Kitchen is updated and very useable. There are stairs. We are in our 70s and we hopped right up them. Lance, the owner, total sweetheart wanting to always make sure your visit is amazing.

Great location

Property is an older home, so be prepared for creaks, it didn't bother us, but it may others. Home was decorated nice and amenities were all there. One of the mainbroads had construction and was closed, but that isn't the properties fault and it was easy to figure out. Super close to everything!

Nice place to stay

We enjoyed our time here, nice location near Westport. This is a mixed family style home that has separate units inside one complex, and it is clean, furnished well, and handled our needs with no issues. A couple mentions, the shower is finicky (old home problems), but once the water temp was fine tuned, worked well enough. The Wi-Fi also struggled a bit and maxed out at 5mbps, not quite enough to stream to a phone, but there was decent Verizon service at the home.

Cousin's Weekend

The house was perfect for our cousin's weekend. We loved hanging out all together and playing games after we explored Old Westport and eating at a few local restaurants. Beer Kitchen is perfect for a bunch on a Sunday morning. And Succotash was another perfect early morning breakfast before hitting the Outlet Mall. A delicious steak place is Hereford Steakhouse. Will differently stay here again. Great location.

Location helpful, space sufficient, kitchen lacking

Enjoyed the decor, layout of space, and size of space for our family of 4. Disappointed in the lack of kitchen supplies and utensils. Pot holders, dish rags, dish towels, Saran Wrap, foil, casserole dish, and dish drainer would have been helpful. Welcome/resource book provided by owner was helpful! and encouraged contacting if something wasn’t up to expectation. I chose not to call since we were there for only 2 nights and changed my meal plan instead. The book also asked that shoes be removed inside the space and both of my girls ended up with splinters from a few rough patches on the hard wood floor. The bathroom vanity and baseboards could use a good dusting with the bedding, bath towels, living room, and kitchen being very clean. We liked the experience of staying in the older remodeled apartment however we all agreed that staying again was not a must.

Great location

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It was clean and well-furnished. We found that it was a 10 to 20 minute drive from everything we wanted to see and was within walking distance of coffee shops and parks. It’s an older home, so guests should be prepared for squeaky floors and to hear their neighbors steps above them, although it wasn’t a problem or concern for us. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Kansas City.

Not up to code

I realize everyone’s standards are different, and I will admit mine are fairly high, but I would not recommend this property. Coming from Iowa I’m accustomed to building codes. I assume MO has similar such codes, but honestly, I doubt many are met in this unit. I could go on and on, but for the sake of my time and yours, let me just summarize by saying… The property is obviously older and has had many updates, but the workmanship of repairs is poor, and in some instances dangerous. For example, when I unplugged an item, I realized the faceplate wasn’t property attached and such all the wires came out of the wall. The internet didn’t work, thankfully the upper unit was functional and we were able to take advantage. The ‘shower’ was a clawfoot tub with a hacked shower head and curtain wrapped around it all, very difficult to get in and out, not to mention just tacky and not very clean. The dishwasher was not installed correctly and had inches of space above… Again, maybe some people wouldn’t care about some of this, but I was traveling with my husband and two small children, I didn’t expect nails to be sticking up out of the floor. And overall, not clean. I wiped a few spots on the floor when my daughters spilled items and was appalled at the black on the cloth. I surely hope the owner doesn’t rely solely on the guests to clean between tenants. I won’t be renting from this owner again.

Great place and good location!

This was a perfect 2 bedroom for the 4 of us...there was a pullout couch as well but since there was only one bathroom I think 4 people was plenty. I would not recommend it for elderly or anyone who has trouble with stairs...the lovely old clawfoot bathtub is very high to climb into and the apartment is a flight of stairs up to the front door and another 1 and a half flights inside. I would suggest getting a footstool for the kitchen. For some reason the renovated cabinets are placed so high that I had trouble reaching even the lowest shelf and couldn't reach the glasses even using a chair....had to get my husband to do it. But the apartment has beautiful huge windows and high ceilings and Lance has thought of some nice amenities like the blinds that keep the early morning sun out. We had a great time!
