Grounds with sitting-out area (shared with other properties on-site). Private parking for 4 cars. No smoking.. Each room in Anthology Manor is based on a book or collection of poems, songs, or films. There is the extraordinary 1001 Nights and the stunning ’Three men in a boat’ where the owners even went to the extent of having a boat-maker build one into the walls! Anthology Manor has a number of reception rooms. The most relaxing is a large and brightly coloured living room, filled with pinks and blues. There is a well-stocked and beautifully modern kitchen, with purple and white lacquered cabinets, and excellent appliances. This connects with a spacious dining room for all the guests in the Mini Manor to be able to eat together.
There are six bedrooms to choose from, the first being ’Neiges D’antan’, the ’Ballade des dames du temps jadis’ (’Ballade of Ladies of Time Gone By’), a poem by François Villon that celebrates famous women in history and mythology. ’Mais où sont les neiges d’antan?’ translated into English by Rossetti as ’Where are the snows of yesteryear?’ This is reflected in the installation of the bathroom and the cool icy colour scheme. The incredibly unique and beautiful ’1001 Nights’ draws inspiration from Arabian Nights, with the intricately tiled bathroom with alcove bath including drapes, marble sinks and ornate fittings to the specially crafted bed frame - it is truly a sight to behold. The ’Post-Scriptum’ is an afterthought, a thought that’s occurring after the letter has been written and signed, however this room is definitely not an afterthought, with the bright colours and beautiful book built into the wall. ’Furnished & Burnished’ is inspired by the line ’Furnish’d and burnish’d by Aldershot sun’, from a poem by John Betjeman after he was struck by the beauty of Joan Hunter Dunn and his fantasising about them being engaged and playing tennis together in Aldershot. The tennis net that is part of the bath and the tennis balls are in the wall. ’3 Men In A Boat’ is based on ’Three Men in a Boat’ (To Say Nothing of the Dog), published in 1889, the humorous account of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames. The room reflects the jovial feel of the travel book with sails over the bath and a built-in sailboat to one of the walls. If you look closely at the rowing photography on the wall you might recognise the owner Mike from his Oxford rowing days. ’Come Into The Garden, Maud’ is an ode to gardening books and the room really does bring nature indoors with its huge windows and floral décor. The room is located on the ground floor and has a walk-in wet room-style bathroom, so suitable with those with restricted mobility.
This property can be booked with Speed Cottage (ref UK43607) and Stag Manor (ref UK43608) to accommodate up to 25 guests.
