Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: The small village of Palnackie nestles amongst lush woodland and remains much as it was when it was a thriving inland port servicing Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas. Today, fishing and pleasure craft use the small harbour near the Solway Coast, and the village offers brightly coloured houses, a shop, Post Office, café/restaurant and a pub. Auchencairn, just along the coast, is a wonderful example of an unspoilt traditional Scottish village and spectacular coastal and forest walks surround the village, offering open views across the Solway Estuary with its cliffs, beaches, hills and islands. The nearby towns of Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright offer a full range of amenities, and this is an ideal location for exploring the Solway Coast, the forests and hills of Galloway, the 7stanes mountain biking trails and the superb Dark Skies on offer in this delightful corner of Scotland.
